Summary: The Exemplary Children's Book
Review: It was truly refreshing to see a children's book that opened achild's imagination and yet, taught them values. The Harry Potterseries has a strange effect on the children I've seen read it. They sit transfixed for hours just reading. It's remarkable. The story itself is not so terribly clever. It has somewhat of a cookie-cutter plot, it's all the extras that truly make Harry Potter a great children's book. All the intracate details weave together to form a world so realistic you begin to wonder why you never recieved a letter from Hogwarts. In short if you haven't already read it, buy it now!

Summary: bad book
Review: It was very unrealistic, and some of the scenes came out of nowhere, and there were chapter cuts where there should not have been chapter cuts, and that's all I have to say.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I've read it twice it's so good!
Review: It was wonderful and expands my imagination. It is a great book for all ages. I wish my teachers would let me report on books like this.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Best book in the series!
Review: It'll all be downhill after this one, so be sure to cherish every page in this too-short introduction to the world of Hogwarts. After you've read the other three lessor books, come back and re-experience the joy only a muggle can experience reading about witchcraft and wizardry Harry Potter style.

Summary: Loved the book. Hate Jim Dale's audio version.
Review: It's a fab book, but Jim Dale does ABSOLUTELY no justice to the story. His reading is extremely nasal, his idea of a Scottish accent for Prof.MacGonagall is ludicrous. All he does is roll his "r"s. As for the children, I've never heard such old sounding children in my life. Vernon Dursley for such a big beefy man has an absurdly whiny & screechy voice. I got through the first three tapes & gave it up. Hagrid sounds as if he should have a parrot on his shoulder saying, "Thar she blows matey! Har Har Har". The audio tape was supremely disappointing. I'm hoping and expecting better from the Stephen Fry version.

Summary: quaint
Review: It's a fun book to read and if it's the rage and children think it's fun to read, then how can you knock it? I find it very similiar in its essence to Cinderella or James and the Giant Peach and others, but it's still a classic story of the underdog.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Forget the hype and just read it!
Review: It's a good book, really it is. I tried hard not to like it, and had picked it up just out of curiosity. I couldn't put it down! I'm 30. You'll like this book!

Summary: Good, but the hype is way too loud !
Review: It's a great book for children. I've seen children in their single-digits unable to sit still as they feverishly turn the pages. What I really like is the fact that J.K.Rowling hasn't been unneccessarily patronizing (a problem with most writers for children) and has also been bold enough to use good vocabulary. It's been very refreshing to see my neighbor's 6 year old keep a big dictionary next to him while reading.

However, having grown up on a massive diet of books by Enid Blyton, I found this book interesting but not impressive. If parents in the US want wholesome entertaining books for their children, I would strongly encourage them to visit [the Uk Amazon.com site] and try a few of Enid Blyton's books. Trust me, they'll be blown away.

Something that puzzles me - why was the books original name changed? In UK, it sells as "Philosopher's Stone" and in the US as "Sorcerer's Stone" !...

Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Review: It's a great book full of suspense and magic. I coudn't put the book down. The characters in the book came alive as I read the vivid descriptions!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Well...
Review: It's a keen premise, but this is really a pretty rambling story with a lame ending. Harry is never much developed as a character, though I guess his blandness is appealing, sort of like Tom Hanks, people feel they can identify with him. The famed Nicolas Flammel never appears, which is also disappointing.
