Summary: has anyone ever read REAL fantasy???
Review: if these books can get so overrated, there must be NO one out there who has read real fantasy. i mean, other fantasy books could use a bit of credit...especially Garth Nix's. besides, some of the events are too vulgar for the intended audience. just a little review, if you liked the series, try reading some REAL fantasy someday.

Review: If you are looking for a great way to bond with your child well this book will certainly help in your efforts. It is good for both girls and boys. My daughter of 8 and I have great fun reading it at bedtime each night. It has opened the door for some fulfilling conversations at various times of the day. We like to makes conjectures on upcoming events in the story line. So I believe it helps her to learn to use her logic and make her own surmises. Of course her listening skills have improved greatly as well. We have learned a great deal about each other and our own experiences of good and evil. She has shared many a story with me of her own basis of morality. I think people who are criticizing this book series are fogetting that in just like any fairy tale the whole point is for children to see both the good and evil (bad) and make their own conclusions as to what is apppropriate behavior in their world. Besides the books are just great fun. The author is able to actually paint a clear picture of exactly each scene. You can close your eyes and see it plainly. My daughter has hopes of being a writer herself and this is such a great example to her. She has something to look forward to at bed time as well and this has made the whole process of bedtime easier to settle her down and get her to sleep. The only drawback that I can see is having Harry Potter withdrawels in the future if the author decides to stop writing! In a nutshell this is one GREAT BOOK and it will get you hooked.

Summary: Great Magic
Review: If you are looking for an exciting but scary book to read, read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I read this book in a week and it even has over three hundred pages! It was so exciting that I couldn't stop reading it! First of all, Harry lives with the Dursley's on 4 Privet Drive. One really funny thing is when Harry lets one of the snakes out of the cage and his cousin falls into the cage and then Harry makes the glass come back up. Also, Hagrid gives Harry's cousin a pig tail because he eats so much. Harry's parents are killed by he-who-must-not-be-named. Harry amazingly was not killed when his parents were. Hagrid takes Harry to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry meets Ron who is scared of a lot of things. He also meets Hermione, who is very smart and her cleverness helps Harry with a lot of things. Harry also becomes the youngest seeker on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Quidditch is like the sport of Hogwarts. One day, Ron, Hermione, and Harry go to the forbidden third floor. Filch, the maintenance worker hears somebody and looks for them but they went into another door. This is where they meet Fluffy, a three headed giant dog. Fluffy actually belongs to Hagrid. Hermione soon finds out what Fluffy is hiding. Fluffy is hiding Nicholas Flammel's Sorcerer's Stone. The Sorcerer's Stone can give you the elixir to live forever. During the rest of the book Harry, Ron, and Hermione encounter a fully grown Mountain Troll. Hermione is in the girl's bathroom near the dungeon. The troll goes into the girl's bathroom. Harry and Ron save Hermione and kill the troll. Harry also finds the Mirror of Erised, which shows what you need to be happy, Harry sees his parents. Also, when Harry, Ron, and Hermione get detention for being out of bed, they go into the Forbidden Forest with Hagrid and Draco Malfoy. Draco Malfoy is Harry's enemy, and he is in the Slytherin house. When in the Forbidden Forest, they are trying to find what is killing the unicorns. When somebody slays a unicorn, it assures them they will live longer, but it is a horrible sin. Harry find out the he-who-must-not-be-named is actually slaying the unicorns. Harry, Ron, and Hermione go back to the forbidden third floor, the go into the door where Fluffy is. Fluffy is asleep so they go into the trap door. They experience many obstacles such as finding the right key out of 1,000 to fit the door, a game of Wizard's Chess, and a plant the almost strangles them. Finally Harry goes into the last door where he meets is professor for defense against darks arts. The Mirror of Erised had been moved to the room and Harry looks into it. He sees himself pulling the Sorcerer's Stone out of his pocket. All of a sudden, his professor takes of his turban and Harry sees he-who-must-not-be-named, or Lord Voldemort. He tells Harry to give him the Sorcerer's Stone, but he doesn't . Lord Voldemort tells his assistant to kill Harry, but Harry touches his face and it burns. Then he touches Lord Voldemort and he burns, too. Harry was in shock so they took him to the hospital wing. Professor Dumbledore tells him that the destroyed the Sorcerer's Stone. At Hogwarts, they have something called the House Cup. The four houses, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw get points awarded to them every time they do something good. Gryffingdor wins because Harry, Ron, and Hermione found the Sorcerer's Stone. To read more about Harry and his friends read the sequel to this book Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Summary: Fantastical.
Review: If you are not a kid, don't worry, you will still enjoy this book and this book is still for you. Once you start this book it is very hard to put it down because after the first 20 or so pages you know that this story has what it takes to be a long and involving epic. Author J.K Rowling slowly unravels one mystery after another about our main character Harry Potter. Plus there are all sorts of wonderful and interesting characters that everyone will enjoy.

The themes in this book are good for kids and adults. For kids, it will relate to them because it illustrates what it's like to grow up and how hard it can be to fit in. For adults, there are slightly deeper themes, and it will remind you of being young again. But in any case this is a story for the young at heart.

Bottom line: Anyone with an imagination will fall into this story. And once you're finished, there are more Harry Potter Books waiting to pull you in. EXCELLENT.

Summary: UNDENIABLY EXTRAORDINARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: If you are reading this review..then you too must be interested in the hype behind Harry Potter. The buzz has been tickling my ears for a long time. I gave in. I went and saw the movie "Harry Potter and the Scorcerer's Stone".. Okay..I have seen the movie and then read the book.....And I must say..the movie IS better than the book, but ONLY because of it's marvelous visual display..you'll love it. I read the book following my thrill at the movie and fell in love with the story once more. Harry Potter...an ordinary boy about to live an extraordinary life. Imagine being orphaned to your dreadful aunt and uncle who care nothing for you and tell you nothing about yourself. Harry Potter was told his parents were killed in a car crash and since has lived a most dreadful life in the cupboard under the stairs in the house of the Dursley's: his Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon, and their obnoxious son, Dudley. Harry's life, well, it[...]to put it plainly. They treat him like a servent...Until one fine day........Letters start arriving. Hundreds. They are flooding in the Dursley home. Harry, however is forbidden to read one even though they are addressed to "Mr. H.Potter, The Cupboard Under The Stairs". On Harry's Eleventh Birthday he is finally greeted by a giant named Hagrid who is appalled that the Dursley's never explained Harry's letters or his past to him...Harry Potter is a WIZARD! His parents who died trying to save him from an evil wizard were famous and so is Harry because he survived! Hagrid tells Harry he is from "Hogwarts" a fine school of witchcraft and wizardry and that Harry is invited to join, just like his parents before him. What happens next once Harry finds his place at school is a jumble of schoolwork, magic, mystery, scary secrets and some unyeilding professors. If you want to know about Quidditch, Peeves, and the Fat lady...you'll have to immerse yourself into Harry Potter's world..it does not dissapoint. It's an easy read for young adults and yes many adults have found it charming as well. What can I say? This could be the book and movie series of the decade..
