Rating: Summary: Absolutely wonderful! Review: I'm an eighteen-year-old college freshman and I absolutely loved this book. Our college library has three copies and they are always checked out. It took me over a month to get a copy of this book, but my patience paid off. I recommend it to any age group!
Rating: Summary: MY Book Talk Review: I'm doing my book talk on harry potter and the socerer's stone. The author is J.K. rowling, and this is a fantasy/fiction book about magic and wizardry. The main character is harry potter and he is mistreated by his aunt, uncle, and cousin. He also has a scar shaped like a lightning bolt on his forehead. His uncle makes him live in a closet at his uncle's house. And he has not had a birthday in 11 years. But all this will change when he recieves a letter from owl messenger: a letter with an invitation to an incredible place that harry-and anyone who reads about him- will find unforgetable. (Read interesting part) this book is for 9-15 year olds
Rating: Summary: I love it! Review: I'm fifteen and I usually can't stand to read things that don't challenge me. My 11 year old sister bought this at her school's book fair and I picked it up by accident and read the whole thing in less than a week.(I read the second in three days and the third in one.) You'll be compelled to root for Harry in all his toils and love not only him but all his friends. Some have argued that Snape is a one-dimensional evil character, but I disagree. Read the third book and you'll see what I mean. This book is an intriguing mix of fantasy and magic and a great story about grwoing up. I highly recommend it!
Rating: Summary: You'll Start Over as Soon as You Finish Review: I'm fifteen years old and don't tell anyone but I rarely read books. Usually I prefer movies or T.V., but my grandmother gave me a few books for Christmas and now I'm hooked! I LOVED Harry Potter and now I'm going to read all the other ones, and I also loved a book she gave me called Love Songs of the Tone-Deaf. That one is more for older teenages, but it's also a GREAT book; but reading Harry Potter is like a magical experience you wish you had to do over again.
Rating: Summary: The Adult within me Review: I'm forty three, and I wanted my son to hear better stories that those he got from his school. So I picked up the first Potter book, and we were both immediately hooked. And while the first book sparked childlike wonder in me -- and stirred the proverbial "child within" -- it also forced me to act more mature and adult-like than I wanted, in that even though I desperately wanted to chuck the Tom Wolfe novel I was reading and hunker down with "Sorcerer's Stone", I knew that I had to be an adult, and force myself NOT to read chapters beyond what my son Ollie and I were discovering together. The Potter books are the very first books that my son (and I) will laugh out loud at...and get very quiet and attentive during the suspenseful parts. These books are inspirational, and my son and I look forward each night to reading a chapter or two. My only anxiety is that we'll be starting the third one soon...and we'll have to wait until the summer to read the next one! Harry Potter books are the best!
Rating: Summary: I don't care Review: I'm fourteen, and I don't care what people say about this book. I don't care if it's too simple, or too predictable, or if the characters don't develop in the story, or whatever. The important thing is that it's an exciting, entertaining, fun-to-read-book that makes the reader feel like a part of the story. A friend from Luxemburg introduced me to Harry Potter, and I was hooked. For weeks after I've read it, I was in a dreamworld, thinking about what it would be like to receive that letter, to go to Hogwarts and to meet all the characters. I have to say that I don't actually believe in a school for witches and wizards, but all the same it was a wonderful and well-written book. I'm not missing the third one!!!!
Rating: Summary: great Review: I'm from the UK where it is called Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone for some reason. I'm a little old for this book but I still loved it. I couldn't put it down and some bit were really quite funny! Wonderful Rowling!!!
Rating: Summary: Magical!!! Review: I'm glad that this wonderful book didn't appear in my childhood as I would have driven myself and my parents absolutely CRAZY ,waiting for the next one to appear. It's full of the most delightful, imaginative prose that I've read in decades, and I am so glad that I was coaxed into reading a "childs book"! The author knows exactly how to attract a readers attention and hold it with the most lyrical, yet down to earth prose that I've read since L.M.Montgomery(Anne Of Green Gables and the magical "Emily" books)I'd defy any but the dullest of children NOT to be totally captivated by this wonderful tale.I"ll definitely try to borrow book 2 from the neighbours brood!!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter's appeal is ageless Review: I'm happy to say that at 50+ years, I've still got a bit of young boy left in me somewhere and we both find the Harry Potter series fun to read, thank you very much. While the author plays mainly to her youthful audience there is material here that only older folk will appreciate. In addition to the mystery there is humor, the author even takes a good-natured swat at her own kind(writers). Perhaps best of all, the author is able to accent the personal values of her hero with out having the book turn into a morality play. Suggestion: DO NOT begin reading the last few chapters of one of these books if it is anywhere near your bedtime. You will be up until you've finished the book. (Note to readers who have parents AND bedtimes: be sure to have extra batteries for your flashlight).
Rating: Summary: I found it hard to put this book down Review: I'm in 5 grade and this is the best book I've ever read! I wished this book would never end! I can't wait to read more about Harry Potter.
