Summary: A Fun Book.
Review: I was lent this children's book by a young man, one of the son's of my best friend. I wanted to see what all the hubub was about. I was taken by surprised....this book is about a 10 year old boy who is a wizard and has a great adventure at wizards school. I am an adult and I read this book cover to cover in a single night (about 4 hours). The story flows and is easy to read. Like I said in my title; a fun book.

Summary: Best book ever made. It was so good I'd give it ten stars.
Review: I was losing intrest in books until I read harry Potter. It rekindled my love for reading. I hope J.K Rowling zaps the last books out really fast, but waiting for the next adventure is part of the thrill. I hope J.K. writes more than seven books, or just an eightth one telling us about harrys life after hogwarts. this book is by far the best ever written. Its not so far fetched so that its hard to belive, it borders beliveble so its like your really there. J.k. rowling has a real talent.

Summary: Potter Geek
Review: I was never a Harry Potter devotee in the beginning. Hell, I didn't really understand the craze, but I figured, if it got kids reading, then who was I to complain.
Last summer a friend of mines daughter overheard a few of us conversing over the phenonmenon and she offered to loan me the first of the collection. To be honest, I wasn't interested in reading them, but I didn't want to mean and turn her nice gesture down.
To state it bluntly, I read this book in a week and immediately became a fan. As soon as I finished the book, I rented the movie and became an even bigger Potter geek. I'm not going to go into specifics of the plot, but I loved the development of the characters and have a fascination with Snape for some reason. The details of both the muggle and wizard worlds were excellent and I'll admit I thought for a little too long about what house I would fit into (according to the homepage, I'm a Gryffindor.)
It's a surprise to hear that even some college professors in our English department have these books as required reading! The next week, I asked my friends daughter to loan me the second one.

Summary: I was skeptical at first
Review: I was not so sure of what to think about the book. But then I saw J.K. on the Rosie O'Donnel show, so I was convinced to read the book. It is about a boy named Harry Potter who is sent to live with his muggle aunt, uncle, and cousin. He is sent to live with them when his parents are killed in a car accident. Little does he know, he's a wizard! He later finds out what really killed his parents. Then he has to later battle the ____ that killed his parents. This book has so many good points in it. I was so surprised that it was that good. This book is the GREATEST book that I've read in a long time. I'm about to start the third book and I'm looking forward to it. Please buy this book and read it soon, and when you're done with this book, read the rest of them.

Summary: Five Stars Are Not Enough!
Review: I was on a flight to Anaheim a couple of years ago, and a mother seated behind me was reading this book aloud to her kids. I put my own novel down, and started listening! That's how engaging this book is. I finally acquired my own copy recently, and am now working my way through the entire Harry Potter series. There is something here for folks of all ages ... clever plots and humorous writing for the adults, and a group of heroes to whom children can relate. Rowlings is an extremely talented and entertaining author. I believe the Harry Potter books will help a lot of kids with self-esteem issues. From Harry's extremely humble beginning, living in a cabinet under the stairs in his step-parents' home, to becoming a wizard-in-training, the young hero demonstrates that kids can grow and become anything they want. This is a marvelous book for readers of all ages. Warning - you will definitely want to read the rest of the series once you complete this first installment. :-)

Summary: WOW!! Great book!
Review: I was one of those parents who thought this book should be banned until I read it for myself! I am not even a fan of "witchcraft" or "wizardry" stories, but this was great! I am looking forward to reading the next one. To those who aren't convinced this is suitable reading, rest assured. The story is so entirely make-believe, it cannot be confused with reality. This book is great for young and old alike!

Summary: Stereotypical magic, superb plotting
Review: I was originally disinterested in reading Harry Potter - after all, everyone and their mother was doing it, and I perversely refused. I also prefer my magic to be "higher" - think The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper. However, I finally broke down and read this book and its sequel, and I am glad that I did. J. K. Rowling's imagery is bright and well-visualized, and her character development is excellent. Second to none, though, is her ability to define the plot and keep it moving at a pleasant, snappy pace. This is a refreshing change from many stories, which either get bogged down in the details or move the action along too quickly. These books are a good read and shouldn't take more than a few days for the experienced reader. They are also excellent read-to-me books, as evidenced by my mother's fourth-grade students, who hung on every word!

Summary: A well written yarn
Review: I was pleasantly suprised by this book. Its an original compelling story that draws one in and holds on for a relatively quick read. It was not an "I can't put this down" read, but worth the price of the paperback.

Ding from a 5 star rating; its too light a read. The plot and characterizations are not very deep or compelling. It reminds me a lot of early Heinlien (pre-60s, before he wrote his true classics). A book for the adolescent in all of us.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Not Just for Children...
Review: I was pleasantly surprised by the subtle wittiness and clever use of imagery in this fantastic story. Being in my late 30's, I hesitated reading a "children's" book, priding myself on being well-versed and read in the world of Pulitzer Prize winners. I was captivated from the first introduction of the Dursley's and Harry Potter, swept away by the world of cloaks, quidditch, muggles, magic and friendships - a simple, delightful place to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Well written "childrens" book; disturbing premise for kids
Review: I was pleasantly surprised by this well written, nicely constructed story from a first time author. This certainly beats Goosebumps and the Star Wars pulp books. Obviously the author has already received plenty of praise already. I think the book is a fun read for adults. I've marked it down to 3 stars because I do not believe the content is at all appropriate for the early reader, ages 9-12, for which it is targeted in the U.S. It is a challenge for parents who are concerned about the glorification not only of witchcraft and the occult, but also violence and meanspiritedness. There is a lot in this book that pleases the senses as you read, but like so many hedonistic pleasures, the soul of the work is empty at best, and evil perhaps. What will your 10-year old child take away from this book?
