Rating: Summary: The Best of the Best Review: I recommend this book to everybody. I've read it 3 times andit's hilarious. People will love the Dursleys and Harry of course. Iliked it when Hagrid shouts," No one insults Albus Dumbledore in front of me" and Dudley backside gets a tail then says to Harry," Already like a pig." I loved Quittich and when they have to play chess to get to the Sorcerors Stone. I've read some reviews that say Harry Potter is a horrible book. It's not a bad book. You will die laughing or you'll probably end up like Dudley. Read this book, I personally recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Lift Up Your Spirits With Your Imagination In The Skies!!! Review: I remember that my friend Patrice continually harassed me in her eager tone, "Alex! You have to read Harry Potter! It's the best book there is!" I brushed it off until the day that I caved in. I read the first Potter book only to find that I couldn't put it down. To see who Harry Potter and what he goes through only makes you wish that the story were a reality. With hilarious words like Muggle and Squib, an awesome sport like Quidditch, and funny names like Rubeus Hagrid, you can't help but fall in love with all the characters in the story. Like my friend warned me, you're going to going to love to hate many of the characters... then again you might hate to love this story. It magically pulls you in and you can't help but sit there and watch the conversations on the Hogwarts Express. Don't stay a muggle forever... get with it! Pick the book up!
Rating: Summary: It's Excellent Review: I remember that when I first saw this book, I think it will be very interesting. And after I really finished read this book, it proved that my guess is right. Harry Potter is a pity boy that he lived in the cupboard under the stairs, 4 Privet Drive Little Whinging Surrey. He lived with Mr. and Mrs. Dursley who are his uncle and aunt. And one day he received a letter said that he was accepted to study in a magic school called Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Then his life is totally changed. The main character of this book is Harry Potter. He is a boy who has talent and courage. He has two best friend called Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger. Ron lived in a big family. And his brothers are very good at every thing so that he is lack of self-confident. And the character of Hermione is opposed to Ron. She is too self-confident even arrogant. And her hobby is reading. The boy who doesn't like Harry is called Darco Malfoy. And there is a funny boy called Neville Longbottom. Others character in the book it had Albus Dumbledore who is the principal of Hogwarts. A man who has a big body and very respect to Professor Dumbledore is called Hagrid. Professor McGonagall, Quirrell, Snape and Madam Hooch are the teacher of Hogwarts. The first part I like is the Quidditch match, Harry be the seeker of his house (Gryffindor). And there had a satisfied result on the first match. Second part is Ron and Hermione help Harry to go on stop the man who want to get the sorcerer's stone. Ron shows a brilliant chess and his bravery. Hermione shows her cool use of intellect while they are having grave peril. Finally, I really like this book and sincerely to recommend this book to everybody.
Rating: Summary: An excellent opener Review: I remember when Goblet of Fire came out and I found out some friends of mine had bought it. Adults reading a children's book, I thought? What on earth?! That Christmas my mum bought me book one (she actually bought me the Philosopher's Stone - I'm originally from the UK). I put it to one side thinking, cute gift - what am I going to do with that? Stuck without anything to take on a cross-country plane journey, I threw it into my bag.My trip was from DC to San Francisco via Denver. At the layover in Denver I was so enthused by Harry Potter I rushed to the store to buy Chamber of Secrets. In San Francisco I rushed out to get Prisoner of Azkaban. On my return to Virginia I bought Goblet of Fire and anxiously waited, with the rest of the world, for The Order of The Phoenix. These books are not just for kids! Anyway, back to the Sorceror's Stone. Obviously we are introduced to Harry and his world. This first novel in the series has a charm all to itself - an innocence, almost - we're not yet flung into the horrors that are to follow. Hogwarts, discussed at much length, is a wonderful mixture of old-time British public boarding schools and wizardry. For someone like me, brought up on Billy Bunter, Jennings and other boarding school books it transplanted me back to a magical time from my childhood. But the book is so much more than that. We start to get a feeling that not all is right in the magical world. The evil Lord Voldemort has killed Harry's parents in a very mysterious way and left Harry with a very puzzling scar. And not all is as it should be at school. Rumors and whispers follow Harry whereever he goes; some new classmates are anything but friendly - some new teachers are very much enemies already! As with the first four books, there are some big plot twists - characters we suspect turning out good, those we don't suspect being the villain. The final confrontation turns out to be, just the beginning for Harry. Some people find this story difficult to get into. The first few chapters build the characters and atmosphere more than the plot. Persevere - you might just get into it. And then look for the hidden meanings. JK Rowling showers her world with puns, anagrams, latin terms and other wordplays. Read things out loud - sudennly Diagon Alley might not be all that it seems! Then go and read the rest. The Harry Potter books really are best read in the order they were written: Sorceror's Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix. Go on, become a Potterhead!
Rating: Summary: THIS IS BOOK IS THE BEST! Review: I remember when I first started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. This book is so good it is worth reading again and again, and as soon as the sequel came out I bought and read that to. It's like being sucked into world that has a little bit of reality, and a lot of imagination. This book is one of those that you can really be a part of the action. This is a great book and I definitely recommend it!
Rating: Summary: wow Review: I remember when these books first came out. I am an avid fantasy reader and even though I knew these were fantasy books, I was reluctant to read them. Here's why: I heard all the hype, I saw the merchandise, and I said to myself, "those are not for me". Then my mother brought home one of them (the second one, I think) and told me that I really should read it. So I reluctantly read it and then the first one and the third one. Now I totally understand! These books are good for people of any age, fantasy lovers in particular. It's original and humorous and has wonderful plot twists. J.K. Rowling keeps you guessing all throughout the book. Hey, everyone, there's a reason why these are bestsellers.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the sorcerers's Stone. Review: I reviewed Harry Potter and the Sorcerers's Stone. It was a great book with lots of action, adventure, and humor. One of my favorite parts was when Professer Quirrell, the defense againt the dark arts teacher revealed that Lord Voldemort had been under his turban the whole time. Another of my favorite parts was when Harry, Ron, and Hermione had to get past the obstacles to get to the Sorcerers's Stone. Here's what obstacles Harry had to surpass. They had to put Fluffy, a three headed dog asleep with a flute. Which was Hagrid, the gamekeeper at the time's pet. Then they had to play a game of chess against giant living chess people provided by Professer Mconogall, the configuration teacher. After that, he had to do some flying to catch a flying key. Finally, Hermione (Hogwart's best student) had to do some logic with potions provided by Professer Snape (not to mention Harry's least favorite professer.) Harry drank the smallest glass and went through a fire Snape had made. When he got into the last room, he saw Professer Quirrell, and Lord Voldemort burst out of his turban, tried to kill him, and again failed. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was a great book to review.
Rating: Summary: Harry's Fun for Everyone! Review: I saw J.K. Rowling on Rosie O'Donnell's show and ordered the first two books based solely on Rosie's glowing review! Boy, was she right! Terrific stories, lovable characters (except for Malfoy and You-Know-Who!)-- what I wouldn't give for Ms. Rowling's creativity! And I haven't been 9-12 in a LONG time!
Rating: Summary: Top notch Literature Review: I saw quite a nasty review for the Harry Potter series and so this is for all of you who have yet to read these delightful books by J.K. Rowling;may you not be led astray by someone who obviously has no idea of what he or she is critizing. Ms. Rowling knows how to tell a story and making sure you are completely absorbed in her world seems to be her foremost concern. Her language is simple but her description is vivid. No verbosity here, only well-crafted prose. Hardly a challenge for anyone over the age of ten, these books do not leave anyone [including brainy know-it-alls like myself ;) ] with that strange,"used" feeling one might get after reading one of those horrible, wooden Dick and Jane type novellas. The characters have been "fleshed-out" by Rowling to the extent thet one might wonder if they were not possibly real. Still, each entity in the books has his/her/its own mystery. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone stands as a personal favorite by many because in it, we meet Harry for the first time. Also, on a personal note, the first time I read this particular book I was drawn into a world I had left many years ago. That world in which everyone had a peculiar set of wings, where the mountains bowed low to the dancing stars, and where Happiness was the name of my pet lion(he's really cute, with large, floppy ears). Only one thing remains to be said in this review:God. Where is He in Harry Potter's world? Where is He in our world? The answer to both questions:Everywhere. Only in both places, real and imaginary, the people tend not to have theological discussions with one another about His existence and His wonders. J.K. Rowling could have easily opted to use a word like "Oompa-loompas" in place of wizards and thus avoided all this hearsay and hubbub over immorality and book-baning. Or maybe not, every genius has at one time been accused of being a crock,a loony, or of being in league with the devil. It comes with the territory, I suppose. People always find a reason to dislike a successful person. Read the book and if you are offended, put it down, but by all means if you love it,enjoy and keep reading. ICL,
Rating: Summary: Fanstastic! About Time! Review: I saw the author on the Rosie O. show and thought I would give the book a try. Boy am I glad I did. My 10 year old and I read the book togeather. Sometime she reading to me, and sometimes me reading to her. This is the first book I have ever come across that actually had my daughter and I equally interested in it, what a wonderful story! And what a wonderful joy to share with my 10 year old. Not only did we love the book, but we had such nice conversations talking about what we 'thought' was behind some of the things going on. I would recommend this book to anyone, but most certainly parents who want to share their love of reading with their children! We have started the second book and are thrilled to see there is a third one! These are classics and I will save them so she can read them to her children!
