Rating: Summary: Great for anyone who's still a kid at heart Review: I received this book as a present for my 30th birthday, and completely and utterly enjoyed it. Most days, I spend my time reading about the law, which tends to grind thoughts of wizards, dragons, and flying broomsticks out of the imagination. This book served as a wonderful diversion from an otherwise awful week at work, and I am grateful to its author. I'll be reading the lot of them.
Rating: Summary: A magical ride for both children and adults Review: I recently got into Harry Potter when I bought the latest Harry Potter book over the summer to check out what the hype was all about over this popular series. It is safe to say that I was immediately hooked. So for Christmas, I asked for the paperback set of the first four Harry Potter books (which I got of course). I have yet to begin reading the other three books since I am 3/4 way of finishing "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". I am enjoying the book immensely. It is nice to know how Harry ended up at Hogwarts and met his two best friends Ron and Hermione. Although the Harry Potter series was geared towards children, it is also makes for excellent reading for adults who just want to escape from the confines of reality. J.K Rowling does an excellent job at fleshing out the characters, including the Dursleys (Harry's awful relatives) who usually appears in the books in the beginning and the end. Another quality I like about J.K's writing abilities is that she doesn't make Harry out to be some perfect, flawless hero. Like anyone else, Harry is human and has his own faults. He and Ron often get into trouble through out the book and are punished for their actions. I still fail to grasp how some conservatives such as John Hagee would think that the Harry Potter books could promote witchcraft or satanism is beyond me. Thanks to J.K Rowling, children (and adults) are putting down the remote control and picking up her books. I'm glad to have discovered the joys of reading the adventures of Harry Potter.
Rating: Summary: An excellent well written book Review: I recently got this book and finished it the day I got it!A must read for children and adults alike!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Review: I recently read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for the first time. I read it for a class. I really enjoyed the book. I think the book is directed toward older kids, older than 8-13 like the book recommends. The book was written so young kids could read it and understand it but I don't think young kids will realize that the book is fantasy and the magic doesn't exist. Older kids and adults can read Harry Potter and know that it's all fake and still enjoy the book. And even though the book is written for ages 8-13, I thought it was a good book and a positive change from some of the books that I have read that are complicated and too hard to understand. The plot of Harry Potter was awesome. It was like a roller coaster ride. The author, J.K. Rowling did an excellent job with keeping the story moving and interesting. She included a lot of action and suspense and you think you are getting closer and closer to the climax but really you are stilling in rising action. Because Harry Potter is written for young kids, Rowling characterization was mostly through description. Rowling would devote an entire paragraph to introducing and explaining a single character. Harry Potter didn't have much for a theme. I couldn't find an overlaying theme of the book. But overall I loved the book. I definitely recommend it if you are looking for a book to keep you reading. It was funny, suspenseful, sad, and exciting all at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter is awesome. Review: I recently read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I could not put it down. I found it very interesting and full of surprises. I am 23 years old and have two small girls, and I can't wait for them to be old enough to read it. This is an excellent book!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Family Reading Review: I recently read this book to my 8 year old son and he (and I) both loved it. I haven't seen him this excited by a story since Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In fact, he liked it so much that we oredered the sequel from Great Britain. I only wish we could get them in the US at the same time! My son loved the exploits of Harry and his friends at Hogwarts. It was an intelligent, entertaining and original book. I hope there will be many more sequels.
Rating: Summary: Anyone who gives this book less than 5 stars is crazy!!! Review: I recently read where some of the readers of this book didn't like it. Why? Well, because they obviously have no sense of adventure, or humor, or curiosity. Both Harry Potter books are very well written (I'm an English major), especially for an unknown author. She captures your imagination. As for the review that thinks the author makes it OK to ridicule "fat" people....get a life! If we can't laugh at ourselves, we need help. Every one of us has something wrong with us. You have to learn to get over it and stop being offended or you will NEVER be happy! As for the reader who thought it shouldn't be directed at children because of the "murdering"...think about the great Shakespeare, a legend, whom I had to read at least 4 of his works in high school. He wasn't considered "dark", he wrote masterpieces which are still around today. Stop looking at everything at face value and have some fun and imagination! These are great adventure and imagination books, for all ages. Hint: If you think that your child is too young to understand it, read it with them and explain it is only fantasy.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful!!! Review: I recieved this book for Christmas, and was a bit skeptical at first about the whole idea of witches and wizards. I started reading, and discovered that I couldn't put it down! I have read both the first and second books, and thoroughly enjoyed them both. The characters seemed so realistic that I feel like I really know them, and can relate to some of their problems. I'm 13 years old, and some might say I'm too old for this book, but I certainly don't, and niether do my friends who have read this! It is a book for any age to enjoy, and I highly reccomend it!
Rating: Summary: I think this book is great! Review: I recomend this book to people who like mysteries and action. I like the way the author uses percise words and how she expresses her mind.
Rating: Summary: Harry Rules Review: I recommend that you should buy this book. This book is very exciting and suspenseful. The story is for all ages and will thrill you. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is funny, amazing, and serious. Don't miss the following highlights of Harry's mysterious adventures. There were hundreds of spooky letters sent to Harry, but Mr. Dursley didn't let him open them. What could be in the letters? Harry has to walk through walls in public. How will he do that? Quidditch makes Harry the most popular kid in school. Is he lucky? Ron and Harry get in trouble and get sent to the Forbidden Forest. Forbidden Forest! Voldermort faces Harry for the battle of a lifetime. Will he survive? I feel this is a great book. I felt like I couldn't put it down. It was very exciting and captivating. The monsters and surprises that he ran into during his year at Hogwarts were funny and scary. Like the talking painting and the snoopy professors. They were all unpredictable. Sometimes the unlikely one can be dangerous. Buy the book for your own good. Warning, beware of spells, magic, and curses.
