Rating: Summary: You'll get SUCKED INTO this book! Review: I read this book and it was great!!! It didn't take me long either. My favorite character was Hermoine because shewas always trying to either pusuade Harry not to do something or else she would wish him luck. I didn't like how snotty Malfoy Draco was. I thought that Hagrid was really funny though. In the begginning I thought that Snape would change his actions towards Harry. I actually did think that Proffessor Snape was putting a curse on Harry's broom stick. I would have never guessed that Professor Quirrell was the bad guy. I thought that this was a great book and I rate it 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Action Packed! A Real Attention Getter! Review: I read this book and its 2 sequels after begging for them for months. It was even better than I imagined! I read all 3 of them in one day. I'm waiting for the sequels. I also suggest to read The Redwall Series as well as books by Edgar Rice Borroughs( John Carter of Mars, Tarzan, etc...) I am now in the process of re-reading them. I am a 14 year old boy and if I like it everyone will! My 12 year old brother, 11 year old cousin, love Potter as well as my Dad and uncle(Ages 50 and 45)
Rating: Summary: What's all the fuss about? This is a GREAT book. Review: I read this book as a concerned Mom after hearing the schools in SC wanted to ban it from the schools. Shame on them. This is the best children's book I've read in a long time, and it has kept my son reading, which is a miracle in itself. Hurray to J.K. Rowling.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book! Review: I read this book as an assignment for a class I took in school, and I loved it! It is a high school English class, and we were told to read something outside our norm, so I picked this. Everyone in the class made fun of me until I did my book report on it. Now, they're all reading it, and they love it too! Thanks J.K. Rowling, and also my teacher!
Rating: Summary: The best childrens book I've read since Dahl or before. Review: I read this book back in 1997 when it was first released in the Uk and knew something extraordinary was to come. Despite being crticized for "too much plot, not enough narrative" this is an amazing debut novel with an incredibly extensive appeal, and issues that can be understood on a number of levels. The characters are deep, with both flaws and positive aspects; their actions are comprehendable and they are so easy to relate to. Harry, who has suffered so much, is given a chance to be happy - a light at the end of the tunnel for us all. Ron, who has always been overshadowed by his brothers for his whole life, is given the chance to shine and show the true brilliance of his personality. Hermione, always isolated due to her intelligence, can prove that she is also loyal and brave: a wonderful character on a number of levels. This book will make you cry with laughter and despair. JK Rowling knows how to make you FEEL; makes you love and loathe, and helps you to understand, even on a basic level, the depths of the human psyche. Don't be put off by the hype: this book overshadows it all.
Rating: Summary: Good book, with a Lewis Carollian feel. Review: I read this book because I had run out of other books to read. The book had been a present to my brother, who will _not_ read, and Ihad originaly dismissed it as a kiddie book, but when pressed with boredom I read it. It was surprisingly good. The only fault I could find with it was that Harry seems to learn nothing in a year at Hogswart other than how to ride a broom. Admittedly this is minor, but it troubles me seeing the characters relying on Hermione to think them out of trouble. What did they go to school for? To watch other people learn? Despite, and maybe even because of, the low reading level, I found this book enjoyable. Perhaps this is so because it seems to hark back to my age of reading Lewis Carol. The two authors' writing styles seem similar to me, or maybe it is just the audience.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter is an instant hero. Review: I read this book because it was recommended by Rosie O'Donnell when she interviewed J.K. Rowling. For the first time in my life, I wished I were a preteen again. It's a wonderfully rich story filled with interesting characters. The world Rowling creates is astounding.
Rating: Summary: A true classic Review: I read this book because my 12 year old Granddaughter told me to. I could not put it down. This is a true classic, in my opinion greater than Alice in Wonderland and Through the looking glass. What a gifted writer, what a story and so subtle it was brilliant. The detail given was so convincing, that I am sure that this school exists and what I would'nt give to go there. I have since bought and read the other two books in the series, and hope to live long enough to read all that are written in the series. (I am 64years old) My husband read then also as I raved so much, and agrees with me, this is pure genious. (He is 76 years old) Neither of us ever thought we would say this about a book written for children. I highly recommend this book and the other two to everyone from 10 years to 100 years old. We all will take away a wonderful experience and knowledge.
