Summary: Great Read - for all ages
Review: I picked up this book for my boys, but ended up reading it myself. I enjoyed this very much. It reminded me of the first Mystical Fantasy book ever read (A Wrinkle In Time) which got me hooked on the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Genre. My oldest son is reading it now, and I enjoy talking with him about the book. We get involved with the characters and their adventures. I am looking forward to reading the series.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Entertaining and exciting!
Review: I picked up this book just to see what the hype was all about. After reading the first three chapters I was absolutely hooked! Harry is such a likable character! With all his adventures in his new school and his insecurites in facing his new endeavors, it isn't hard to see why this book has captured the hearts of kids of all ages. A little bit of mystery, a whole lot of fantasy and so much fun! Bravo! It's about time a book like this came out to get kids excited about reading! I can't wait to dive into the second and third ones!

Summary: What was I thinking?!!!
Review: I picked up this book recently because of all the hype and critical acclaim. I love fantasy(JRR Tolkien, George RR Martin, Robert Jordan etc.) and thought this would be a good book to add to my list. Well folks, let me tell you, this is not only one of the worst fantasy books I have ever read, it is one of the worst books I have ever read. This JK Rowling is a disgrace to fantasy readers and writers everywhere. If you have any hint of self-respect what-so-ever, my advice to you is DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS ONE!

Summary: I don't care if I'm 31 - I LOVED it!
Review: I picked up this book to see what was so wonderful about this series, not expecting to find it so. I was wrong. This was one great read! I am very happy to know that the world's children are enthralled by such intelligent and well written books. To me, the message of this first story is to have hope when things seem like they can't get worse because life has many wonderful surprises in store and anything is possible! I can't wait to read the next three books in the series!

Summary: It's nice to be a kid again!
Review: I picked up this book wondering what all the hype was about and what a wonderful surprise! I can't believe I am a "grown up" who rushed to pick up books 2 & 3 only after reading three chapters in "Harry Potter and the Sorcer's Stone" My imagination has run wild and J.K Rowling has created a book to be enjoyed by all ages, a truly amazing feat!

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Over-rated for adults
Review: I picked-up this book because of the hype, and after reading numerous reviews, which indicated that this books was not just for kids. I expected it to have the same appeal to adults as C. S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. It does not. There is nothing about this book which could lend itself to a multi-level reading as Narnia does. It is just a kid's adventure story in the 'land' of wizards and witches. And even in that, I don't think it lives up to the hype.

Summary: Enchanting! (no pun intended)
Review: I purchased Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to read with my 8-year-old, but before we started it, I read it myself...then I read it again...then I read it again. She began to despair of ever having a chance to read it herself! Though the book was intended for 9-12 year-olds, it transcends the boundaries of age. Wonderful!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: I'm 53 and loved it!
Review: I purchased the book as research for writing my own book for a like age group. Now I need to purchase the other two - was completely engrossed in the story and had forgotten how much fun it is to be entertained like this!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Trying to be patient for the next books to be written!
Review: I purchased the book, wanting some light reading, and what I recieved was the best surprise of my year! I am in college, but anyone, young or old, will adore this delightful story. It was just what I needed to brighten up the wintertime. The fantasy world that Rowling has created is colorful, warm, magical, and fun. It is filled with suspense and adventure. It is amusing and clever. Very well written. The sequels, too, are well worth the hardcover price. Anyone would love to visit this world Rowling has created! I can't wait for her to write the rest of the books, because I am eager to return to her world!

Summary: Not Just For Kids
Review: I purchased this audio edition to listen to while knitting, after seeing interviews with J.K. Rowling on TV. I have not been disappointed - the story is fun, interesting, and imaginitive... not to mention very entertaining, even for adults! In the tradition of C.S. Lewis or Madeleine L'Engle's imaginary realms... although this Harry Potter book (and, I assume, the others) don't have a religious message, ethics such as sticking up for your friends in need, trying things even when you're afraid, dealing with loneliness, and other universal issues are covered. Wonderful fun!
