Summary: Don't listen to criticism! This is the beginning of the BEST
Review: I must admit it: I'm writing this review only to show my feelings and thoughts.
I think this book needs no presentation, and no review, is so popular nowaday that nobody doesn't know it already.
Beeing an HP fan I came here to read some reviews...When I already love a book I usually read opinion of people who hate it. But this time I was quite disappointed: I found people who think HP to be a disorientating book for children, in their opinion it forges breaking-rule mind...
I can't accept it, I'm sure they've got their own reason to think the way they think, but...
You can't judge a fiction book as a learning-life book, you can't think that a book must be full of perfection cause children read it...
You must understand the metaphores: this is good against evil, this is good guy against bad guy... I read about Christ!?!?!?
Are you joking? You can't expect an eleven years old boy to act like Christ, if you want perfection you can of course read the Bible! HP is a boy and his schoolmates are children like him...
And so they act like children (fantastic ones of course!).
Listen to me: this is pure magic, it may have weak spots, but it's absolutely fascinating.
And it's just the beginning, go and read the 3rd and the 4th one (and now the fifth too!!!!) and dream of a world that has so much to give...........

Summary: The Magic Behind Harry Potter
Review: I must admit that I started reading this novel because I felt that as an English major with a focus on children's literature it would be a bit absurd for me not to understand the largest phenomenon in young adult literature. From the moment I began reading this book I was captivated. Needless to say, Rowling's capability to hold the attention of both adult and child is truly amazing. I would recommend this book for anyone who has a few hours available, and is willing to dedicate their time to the next four books. Once you start, as the saying goes, you can't stop.

Summary: Bewitching (Pun oh-so intended)!
Review: I must admit that I've never been one to jump on the bandwagon of trends, much less like them but this series may prove as the exception. Wary at first about picking up a children's book, but intrigued by friends' comments, I reluctantly picked up a copy of "The Sorcerer's Stone", expecting to add it to my ever-increasing pile of half-read books. Imagine my surprise when not only did I like the story, but actually loved it. J.K. Rowling added another fan to her ever-growing list that day

Posed with the question as to why someone should buy this book, I counter with the obvious why not. Any child with half an imagination could better from this read. It's magical and mythical, wonderful and whimsical and chock full of all the elements a good fairy tale is made of: Good Harry's ever-present battle with the evil He-Who-Can-Not-Be-Named, Hermione's ugly duckling turning into a beautiful swan in "Goblet of Fire", and Hagrid's turn as the gentle giant to name a few. The best thing, however, about Rowling's series is that they are written in a manner that is easy for a child to understand, but not in a manner that is too childish or simple. Rowling remembers that children are smarter than what they seem and that most are capable of embracing stories, no matter how touchy the subject matter, when presented in a pleasant and self-effacing manner.

Children aren't the only ones that can benefit from this series. Adults can also learn a few things from Rowling, especially the fact that I earlier pointed out: that sometimes children can handle delicate subjects, as long as they are explained in an easy to understand, concise manner. My other reasons to recommend this book are little more than selfish ones, ranging from the fact that it reminds me what it was it was like to dream and believe that anything is possible and that Quidditch looks pretty darn fun. Either reason guarantees that you're buying a book well worth its back cover price.

Summary: Great story, sure to become a classic
Review: I must admit, I did not pick up this book voluntarily. My daughter urged me and urged me to read this book. I kept putting her off, thinking it was just another kids' book.

I was wrong. While the reading level may not be the same something written by someone like Clancy, this is a very well written book. The characters are very well developed and the sceens very vividly displayed.

I am not typically a reader of science fiction/fantacy, however this book is not a typical book. It is a very well crafted story about the student at a boarding school. It could have been very easily written set a a modern day boarding school with soccor as the main sport. It is about learning, growing up and relationships, with those in the present and those in Harry's past.

Harry is the very unlikely hero, who with the help of his friends, reveal the Sorcerer's Stone, and prevent a disaster, had the stone fallen into the wrong hands.

My mother (age 70+) was recently in the hospital, and I gave her a copy of this to read while she was a patient. My daugher, who is now 11 loves this book, and I very much enjoyed it. It is truely a family novel.

Summary: satisfying
Review: I must admit, I was suspicious at first -- was this just another crazy fad, like beanie babies or furbies? But then I read the books -- all three within three days -- and am dying for more. And I'm 23 years old...

Summary: ...I've gone over to Harry's side...
Review: I must admit, I was very reluctant to read the Harry Potter books because of the hype surrounding them. However, where there is a lot of hype, sometimes there is a reason.

Harry Potter's world will bring out the child in any reader. I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in a few reading hours. I must say, it captured my imagination, and made me feel like a kid again!

Because Harry thinks he is just like everyone else, he is a lovable character, that has integrity and grace. Not like most heros, Harry doesn't always win. That doesn't mean that Harry won't come out ahead.

Harry's world at Hogwart's School of Magic is every kid's dream. I had always been fascinated with magic as a child, and this book delves into that fascinating world filled.

I think that Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone will remain my favorite Harry Potter book if only because it is the book that brings such vivid description to things I had thought I had long ago locked away in my imagination. Walking down Diagon lane was so much fun! Discovering all things magical for the first time was a treat I won't soon forget.

Learning all about Harry, his past, and present, provides for an enjoyable ride.

Kids, enjoy these books, you will remember them for a long time. Parents, this is the perfect summer read! Enjoy!!!

Summary: A Christian Review: I'm now a fan.
Review: I must admit, with all the Christian hoopla surrounding Potter, I had my mind made up to never read the "garbage". Then, something happened quite by accident. A friend had a copy and I picked it up, opened to the 1st chapter, read the first 2 or 3 paragraphs, and next thing I knew... I was running out to buy it. There are a few things I found objectionable, but those things were done by the "evil" characters which shows how evil can be evil. As a good guideline: if you allow your children to watch Bewitched/I Dream of Jeannie OR the Star Wars movies, then this book will not be objectionable to you. I found a lot of parallels between Star Wars and this book. "The Force" vs. "The Dark Side". The covers look dark and ghostly which IMHO makes Christians feel as though that just validates that it is sinful reading. Yet, "you can't judge a book by it's cover". All in all, it's just a great book and I, though a Christian, feel it's fine as long as you talk to your children.

Summary: A superb piece
Review: I must be honest, I never thought I would find myself reading the Harry Potter series. After my friends started to read them, I joined the bandwagon expecting an average book. How wrong I was! I wish these books would have come out when I was younger, so I wouldn't be stuck with reading the Baby-Sitters Club series.
As the initial book in the series, it sets the tone for the rest. He will always be up to some scheme, whether sneaking around school, or facing an evil villian. Hopefully, I haven't given away to much, in hopes that you will read the magic that is Harry Potter.

Summary: I must be the only person in the world...
Review: I must be the only person in the world to not love this book. But I didn't. I thought it began well - with the horrible adoptive parents and their child - but then I felt the book was sooo predictable. And when it wasn't predictable, it was because a new deus ex machine was introduced into the story. The writing is pedestrian for the most part. I did like the quiddich matches, but I really don't understand the big fuss about this book. To me, it reads like a Walt Disney animated cartoon.

Summary: Awesome story!
Review: I must first say, state and write that I had great reservations and even greater apprehension towards this book, i.e., Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1) by J. K. Rowling, Mary Grandpre (Illustrator). How ever to my utter surprise, I read the entire book (cover to cover) in less then a day and I must say that I absolutely loved it. The story (concerning you Harry Potter and his trials, tribulations and life tests) is wonderful (well written with compelling dialogue between the characters and rich character description that has the reader wanting to read more and more; and by doing so, never putting the book down); and I would totally, definitely and beyond any reason or doubt, understand why children love the books written by J.K. Rowling. Book II here I come...
