Rating: Summary: Incredibly, Addictively Readable! Review: I have read all three books, and all I want is MORE! I haven'tread any book this fast since Star Wars: Episode I and The Hobbit! The only regret I had after finishing each book was that there wasn't more book to read! These books are absolutely great, and are one of the best ways I've ever seen to get kids to read (nevermind the demographic who's actually buying the books, which is just about everybody)! I really hope Rowling writes FOUR MORE!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful.....something everone should read Review: I have read all three Harry Potter books and each one is an unique adventure that I strongly recommend. I do not agree with all the critism it has been given. Yes, it is not for little kids. No, it does not encourage Dark Arts/Magic. It is a book made for the fantasy genre, which has been around FOREVER.....many classics are fantasy stories. And if you know your child, and have brought them up to respect literature (which is the only way acheive knowledge) they will love it too for what it is, a story. I would let my child read this book way before I let them watch prime time television. When I was eleven, the most popular books in school were the R.L. Stien books. And somehow, no one opposed it like they did to Harry. I encourage old and young to read it. The picture appears in your mind in great detail, and the story comes alive. Its pure pleasure.
Rating: Summary: Not the best Review: I have read all three Harry Potter books and I do intend to keep reading the series but I'm not sure what all the hype is about. While these books are entertaining (and, as a teacher, of course I'm thrilled kids want to read these books or any others) J.K. Rowling is no C.S. Lewis, Susan Cooper, Lloyd Alexander, e. Nesbitt, Edgar Eager or Jane Langton -- all talented writers who have written fabulous books which take their readers to different worlds (all of them far more magical than Harry Potter's). The Harry Potter books are a good hook to get kids reading and interested but I would recommend any of the above-mentioned authors over Rowling. If you like the Harry Potter books, please don't just sit waiting for the Rowling publication. Instead, try these writers -- you won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: I LOVED It! Review: I have read and finished all three of these books over the summer and I must admit that I still think that the first one is the best out of all of them. It is exciting and twisted and kept me on my toes the whole time. This is defently the BEST book I have read in awhile! It has led me back to reading for fun...happy reading!
Rating: Summary: Exquisite Review: I have read enough books in my life. But I can honestly say that I've never skipped any sleep for any other book before I started reading these books. I could not put them down, not just a first one - all four of them. I finished reading them (all four) in less then a week. Each one seems to be better then the one before. For anyone with a slight imagination these books are the most enjoyable reading. They have everything the reader can look for in a story. And most importantly, pages are not felled with unnecessary details like most adult books I've read. Non-stop adventure. Only disappointment I felt was when I finished the fourth book and realized that next one was not published yet. Two very enthusiastic thumbs up to Ms. Rowling for writing the most creative book I've ever read in my life. And as for those criticizing these books: GET A LIFE. There is enough garbage published as Christian fiction/literature to complain about. It is fiction (made up, invented) and a very well written one as well.
Rating: Summary: Thank you J.K. Rowling! Review: I have read many "children's" books but never any as well written as this. I have never really liked fantasy but, after I read this book, I couldn't stop smiling! Thank you J.K. Rowling!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Definitely the best book I have ever read! Review: I have read many books including the Chronicles of Narnia and the Redwall series. But I have yet to find a book that has kept me as interested as the Harry Potter series. When I heard about the Harry Potter books I just thought it was another stupid fad like Pokemon. But I decided to read one anyways and when I finished it I realized how wrong I was.It deserves all the credit it's getting.I strongly encourge you to read the Harry Potter series.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter - from loser to hero Review: I have read many books, books about everything. But there are not many books that have been as fantastic as this first book about Harry Potter. I am a huge fan of fantasy books, and it is just amazing to read this book, to think about that someone is capeable to write such a piece of excellence. Although I am 18, and supposed to be grown up, I must say, the first thing I am going to do after the holidays is to run to the bookstore and buy the next book.
Rating: Summary: Great series Review: I have read many different sci-fi series, but never one that was aimed at children. I did not at all expect to enjoy this book at all, in fact the only reason I read it was so that I would know what my students were talking about. My suspicions were confirmed - this book is not great literature. However, it is a wonderful story that says a lot about 11 year old children and the world they live in. It is no wonder that it appeals to kids of this age. With all of the fads in the past few years it is refreshing to see one that is actually beneficial to children. While the literary value of Rowling's book is not great, the fact that millions of children (and adults) have read and re-read her books says a great deal. Kids that otherwise would never read anything have picked up these books and love them. While this was decidedly not my favorite book, and I came into with poor expectations, it was good enough to get me to read the next book in the series (which I loved!).
Rating: Summary: Morally Decrepit Review: I have read many editorial reviews praising this series and must conclude that J.K. Rowling has created some inventive childrens' literature here...however I would not recomend this series to descerning parents who might find its themes and moral decrepitude dangerous for young children.
