Rating: Summary: A Very Unique Story Review: I don't blame this book for being popular. It made me want to go to Hogwarts SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad. I can't believe some teachers won't let students read it! It is too good of a book to say. It was funny and amazed me at the same time. I love it!
Rating: Summary: HARRY POTTER IS AWESOME Review: I don't care if it isn't from The States, but this book is the best book I have ever read. I cannot put it's awesomeness to words. I would put infinity stars but they only allow 5. I can't wait for my "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" to come. EVERY BODY in my school has read it. If you haven't read it already, get with the times and read the book of the millenium (and the next 10 milleniums!!). So guess what? Don't pay attention to any reviews dissing the book (if that is possible), just take my word for it and read it ASAP!!
Rating: Summary: Pretty good, entertaining read Review: I don't hesitate to say that this book, along with the rest of the series, is a good read in general. It is engaging, enjoyable, and holds you until the end--just plain fun. I encourage you to read it just for the experience. However, I didn't really identify very much with Harry, though it's just me. I recommend the is book and its sequels, but for a truly wonderful childrens' series that adults can also enjoy, try John Bellairs' books.
Rating: Summary: Awesome book! Review: I don't know how many times I've read this book. 10-15 maybe? This book is EXCELLENT. I don't know how JK did it (author). Many people in our society say it is a "devil influencing book, should not be read by children." This is very false. First of all, it does not even MENTION the devil. Other people say the wizardry is a bad influence on young children. Come on people! Children have got to know what's real and what's not! If they don't, it doesn't hurt them. I mean, your listening from a person who thought Sesame Street was going to take over the world. Imagination is good for children! This book is awesome. It gets in depth. You couldn't find a better one except the rest of the series! (The 4th book really takes the house down). Get this book, you won't regret it!!!
Rating: Summary: I HATE TO READ! Review: I don't know if I hate to read or just don't.... I'm 31 years old and have read less that a hand full of books and then only kicking and screaming... After the first 3-5 chapters of harry potter I didn't want to put it down.... I'm a slow reader and actually would read the book outloud to my wife. I READ IT TWICE and when the fourth book came out I was excited that is had over 700 pages!!!Thanks you J.K.
Rating: Summary: Wow, wow, wow: I'm 24, and I LOVE it!!! Review: I don't know what all the fuss is about whether or not Ms. Rowling has written books that are of "literary" quality, etc. I borrowed this book from my mother, a 2nd grade teacher, after hearing for so long now the split praise of it. And while I can see where some critics might find fault with certain editorial aspects of the book, I can't imagine why they'd allow such nit-picking to overshadow the truly wonderful overall composition. This is a classic story with a contemporary attitude! Children, adults -- it's got something for everyone, even a 24 year old college student wanting something to read on breaks from studying for finals. The characters are engaging, if not completely developed -- but, hey, that's because there are more books to come, more opportunities to develop everything! I'm buying copies for all my nieces, nephews, and little cousins who don't already own their own!
Rating: Summary: I loved this book Review: I don't know what to say that you probably haven't heardbefore, but I'll just tell you like it is. I this this is one of thebest books for kids and adults. It will become a classic within years. I read it and couldn't put it down! It is so different and funny you want to see what weird things will happen next. It is about a boy who doesn't know he is a wizard, but is one, and is sent to a school for wizards and has so many fun, dangerous, and suspensful andventures. You will want to read it over and over again, I promise. It is a great book for all ages!
Rating: Summary: How can something so popular be...GOOD? Review: I don't know why I wanted to read this book; between my eleven year old brother and the mass media, I had been surrounded by Harry Potter hype to the point of nausea. I expected it to be simplistic and juvenile, not to mention overrated. However, I picked up the book and finished it in a single sitting. I was so amazed! As a fantasy authour myself, I am extremely critical about the books I read. Harry Potter was not the best book I have ever read, nor the best fantasy book, nor even the best book for children. However, it blew me away and kept me hooked. Hilariously funny, yet a thrilling page-turner, Harry Potter has something for everyone who has ever been a kid. J.K. Rowling has an enormous talent for creating charcters the reader can connect to - who hasn't known a bossy, know-it-all, yet good-hearted girl like Hermione? Everyone has had a teacher that they were sure detested them, like Professor Snape. Many of the characters in Harry's world are archetypal, which sometimes makes a story seem cliched, but in this case gives it a sense of familiarity. Albus Dumbledore is similar to Tolkein's Gandalf or Obi-Wan Kenobi. Dudley, Harry's repulsive cousin (who is the most LOATHABLE character in the book), is a fat, spoiled meany straight out of a Roald Dahl novel. Voldemort, a.k.a. "You-Know-Who," becomes mysterious and dreaded enough to invoke real chills in readers, unlike many villains these days. My personal favourite is Draco Malfoy, the nasty creep who dabbles in dark magic. I can just picture this kid and his cronies (the Slytherins) looking just like those Goth kids in high school (of which I was one...maybe that's why I can identify with him.) This book is definitely good for young children, but it is pretty dark at times. All the better! Personally, I am fascinated with witchcraft, the occult, and the so called "Dark Arts," and the scene of one character (no spoilers!) drinking the silvery blood of a unicorn like a vampire sent chills of delight up my spine. However, the MESSAGE of Harry Potter is POSITIVE! It teaches friendship, bravery, the importance of learning, cooperation, and many other good moral values. I am so thankful that, in a Pokémon-infested society, millions of kids and adults are being enthralled by (oh my gosh!)fantasy books. Moreover, I am glad that this incredible new trend has not only entertainment value, but literary and moral value as well.
Rating: Summary: Harry is Great! Review: I don't normally read books of this nature, but when I saw the first three books in this series on the bestseller list here I had to try it. I must say that it was a refreshing experience from my normal reading habits to venture into a child's world of mystery and magic! Harry and his friends are a delightful crew and after reading the first book, I bought the next two in the series and can't wait for the fourth one to arrive this summer. I don't even have children yet, but I am saving these for when the time comes. I understand that there has been some controversy over these books and I fully understand that some parents are offended by the thoughts of magic and it is against the religious beliefs of some. If you are offended by these concepts, please don't read these books. I also ask that you let each individual make his own choice rather than lobbying for removal of something as entertaining as this!
Rating: Summary: AMAZING!!!! Review: I don't read very often at all. My mom said that I had to read a book during the summer. So I saw this book and decided to get. It had to be the best book I have ever read. Even thou I don't read that much it was amazing. If you don't have the book go out and get it NOW!!
