Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I didn't know what to expect when I picked up my first copy of Harry Potter, but it turned out to be such a fun and exciting book. I couldn't put the book down for hours because it was so fun to see what happened next to Harry. Definitely a must reader
Rating: Summary: very entertaining Review: I didn't let myself read this book for the longest time. All the hype made me wary, but I finally picked it up so I could see what all the fuss was about. I'm 19 years old and absolutely love this book. I won't say that the idea behind the book is a new one - I've read several books where the main character is a kid who's discovered that there's something special about him/her and is going to a school where that specialness can be nutured (Arrows of the Queen by Mercedes Lackey comes to mind; it's also an excellent book, and I recommend it if you like this one). However, I like that kind of story, and J. K. Rowling's writing style is enjoyable to read. It's easy to see that she's got the details of her world figured out; it's makes rereading fun, because you can catch all sorts of things that you might've missed that she brings up later in the book or even later in the series.
Rating: Summary: A must read! Review: I didn't read books too much unless I really got into them. My school librian put this book on hold for me. When I got it, I didn't read it for about a week. Then, I just picked it up and started. I am telling the god honest truth; by the end of the third day after starting the book, I was looking for the next one. This book is the best. Now, I have read all three, and I must tell you. If you are planing on reading any more of them, start with this one. It gives a lot of info. that is reused in the next ones. I loved it, and I can't wait till the fourth.
Rating: Summary: This book is more than great! Review: I didn't think that Harry potter and the socereres stone was going to be that good. But when I read it I absolutley loved it! I'm in the middle of Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets and that one's great too.
Rating: Summary: Two Thumbs Up For Harry Potter! Review: I discovered Harry Potter when my teacher read the first book in school. When she was only half way through, my grandmother gave me a copy. I just couldn't help it. Before my teacher could finish another chapter, I read the rest of the book, it was so awesome! What is this Harry Potter craze? For one thing, all four books are fabulously written. I love the fascinating and sometimes gruesome details in them. The characters are so well developed that it's like I'm their best friend. How on earth does J.K. Rowling think up these names! Not to mention the wonderful plot. The books are funny, suspensful, interesting, and scary all at the same time. I really didn't know such a great book could exist until I read the Harry Potter series. Don't just stand by and watch the world fall in love with Harry Potter(the books are already in french, german, italian, and other languages). Do yourself a huge favor and read them for yourself! As many of you already know, Harry Potter is a thirteen year old wizard. He escapes the terrible and yet histarical Dursleys and their more-than-fat son Dudley with a half giant named Hagrid(he makes you laugh, too). Off Harry flies to a world of owls, goblins, and lots lots more. He meets Albus Dumbledore, Hermoine Granger, Ron Weasley, Draco Malfoy, the evil Lord Voldemort, and a talking hat. I won't tell you any more, except that BUY THIS BOOK! When you're done, read the rest. The only fault with this book is that the end makes you want the second, third, and fourth books even more!
Rating: Summary: Another adult hooked on Harry Potter. Review: I dismissed the HP craze as nonsense until recently. Needing refuge from a very difficult situation, I immersed myself in Sorceror's Stone one evening and enjoyed every minute of it. As if by magic (laugh), my troubles were completely resolved a few days after finishing this enchanting story. Looking forward to reading the entire series.
Rating: Summary: Perhaps HP is too profound for me Review: I do not consider myself to be one of the intelligencia, nor do I consider myself to be as well-read as I'd like to be, however.......Then again, I never understood the Pokemon phenomenon either. Big budget marketing is all I can think of to create such hype. I do, however, find the covers of the books to be very attractive. All marketing related toys and paraphenalia are very attractively packaged as well and seem to be of good quality. Perhaps this is what draws the kids? Can this possibly be the reason why adults enjoy the books as well? I was hoping that Hollywood would come through for me. The movie was as bland, and an exact replica (except for some missing scenes) as the book. It is refreshing to see others have rated this book with 1 star. I was thinking about reading this book again to see if I had missed something. It happens. I didn't have to do this, however, as I subsequently read Chamber of Secrets with my son to find boredom rear its tired head once again. I found that all I'd really missed was the time I could've spent reading something else. Harry Potter, as a character, is a bore. This is probably due to Rowlings lack of character development, however, she seems to have done a better job at it with Hermione and the Weasley's. This is not to say that I think they are interesting in any way, shape, or form. I do believe I've just written an uninteresting and perhaps not very descriptive review, however, I couldn't help putting in my two cents. I would not even bother to write this review if not for all the hype and attention given to this series of books. To be fair, my son enjoyed reading this book at a time I was trying to introduce to him the joy of reading. To put a positive spin on the HP phenomenon; the publishing industry is doing our children a favor for you can never really know what good literature is until you've read the bad.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone The real Review Review: I do not really get involved with books too much because of the fact that I have a short attention span and that I tend to find most of books boring except for this one. Harry Potter was brought to life by J.K Rowling. I would highly recommend this book not only for my peers but for all ages because of the way the author gets you interested in the book and keeps you involved with having to draw a vivid image in your head. She does this in many ways throughout the book. One of the ways she helps you draw a vivid picture is by describing to you the settings and the exact details of what the scenario is. Harry Potter and his friends were at the big Halloween dinner at the school hall when they were informed that there was a troll that had gotten into the school. Everyone was told to go their rooms except for Harry and his friend Ron who had to look for Hermoine who had gone to the ladies room. As they came in Hermoine was yelling at the top of her lungs trying to get away from the troll. So, Harry and Ron both distracted the troll so Hermoine could run out. Harry jumped on the troll and try to hit it with his wand. The troll was described as very large, green, disgustingly smelly feet and a nose so big that you could see into from a mile away. Harry finally stuck his wand up the trolls nose and had passed out on the floor. The description of this scene was written so well. This example is one of literally close to one hundred events in this book. J.K. Rowling is a great writer to me, and now am a fan of reading.
Rating: Summary: Parental Guidance Suggested ! Review: I do not recommend any child under the age of fifteen (15) reading this book without parental guidance, and then, only if that child is deeply spiritually rooted. J.K. Rowling makes magic and witchcraft quite attractive, romantic, fun and acceptable. There is a discriminatory attitude between those of the community of magicians, and those who are magically-challenged (to be politically correct!). Those who are not able to twirl a wand with wondrous results, are looked down upon. Any child with guidance, can be made to understand that Harry Potter et al, is no more true, nor harmful, than the fantasy enjoyed by those of my generation, "The Wizard of Oz"! And, that the fantasy series that is "Harry Potter, and the..." is nearly "oz" caliber!
Rating: Summary: Great!!! Review: I don't believe this!! I'm 21 years old and an avid reader of all sorts of books. But I'd say this book got me hooked right from the first page and I loved it more than any book I've read in the past ten years! Its just Awesome! And, I've finished the other three books too. A MUST READ. Bravo!!
