Rating: Summary: A Gr8 story that you will enjoy. Review: A wonderful, great, exciting adventure story
Rating: Summary: a great book Review: A wonderfull first novel. Much like CS LEWIS.jk Rowling has a gift for keaping the emotion, fears and triumphs of her characters on a human scale , even while the supernatuarl is popping out all over. The book is full of great sly humor and the characters are impressively three dimensional and move along seamlessly through the narravtive .Harry Potter and the Sorcerers stone is a funny moving and impressive story story. I know all who read ths book enjoy it.So read ill bet you love it. It is a book for all ages.
Rating: Summary: Almost good Review: A word of warning should be given by those who recommend this book to grown-ups. It's a book for children and should be read a such. The book is written in a clear and simple style using numerous cliches of fantasy. Ideal for kids, but too obvious for my taste. I gave it to stars instead of three as it kept me hoping that the fun would start on the next page, which never happened.
Rating: Summary: Most Enchated Book Review: A. Duong Harr Potter and the Sourcerer's Stone J.K. Rowling Reviewed By: A. Duong Period 3The book i read was Harry Poter and the Sourcerer's Stone. I enjoyed this book very much. I thougt it was wonderful. It is about a british boy who learns that he has magical powers. He lives with his Aunt, Uncle, and his cousin. They don't really love him and treat him badly. When he finds he's a wizard, he goes to the Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizadry. He makes new wizard friends and starts to be able to use his new powers. As harry gets to know his fellow wizards, he joins a certain magical sport. He became one of the best in the sport. Although, when he returns from his school, his Uncle hated him even more. They didn't appreciate witchcraft, and was scared of it. I liked this book very much. I thought it was wonderful. It filled my mind with many different pictures. Thebook pretty much came to life in my head. It boosted up my imagination and my vocabulary. I especially loved how creative this book was. It had many wonderful things, ghost, witches, wizards, invisable cloaks, three headed dogs, and many other different things. Also, I liked the way the author described every single thing that Harry saw. It was as if I was the main charcter, and was in this book. I enjoyed this book very much. I only have one word to describe this book, FANTASTIC! Although I liked this book very much, I did dislike some parts. One of the things were how some british words were used. It confused me very much. Also, when the characters spoke, they used British slang words that confused me a lot. Also, somethings the author explained were confusing, like the things that Harry bought, or used. Overall, i thought this book was very well written, and i still give it a five. My favorite part in this book is when harry first learns that he is a wizard. A giant stomps into his house and and starts using magic all over the place. Another one of my favorite parts is when Harry plays a magical sport. All the players ride on a broom stick and while harry chases after a ball that goeas at the speed of light, every one else is trying to get a ball into the goal. Although, if harry catches the the little golden ball, his whole team wins, and vise versa. I aslo liked the part where a hat would decide which group harry would go in to. It was a talking hat, and it said he should go into griffendore. I liked this book very much and I've recommended it to many of my friends.
Rating: Summary: A very exciting and great book for Kids! highly recomended!! Review: About a boy living with his awful Aunt and Uncle because his parents died but he never knew why...He meets a man named Hagrid who says he's a wizard and takes him into another world far away from the muggles(non-magical people)to a place called Hogwarts. There is where he has all his great adventurs...and the greatest one anyone has ever had!

Rating: Summary: A masterpiece for any age Review: About a year ago I was at when they had a spotlight on a book about a young boy who goes to a Wizard school. It sounded interesting but for some reason or another I put it out of my mind until September of last year. I noticed that there were more than 1000 reviews and they were almost all positive. I had to find out what this was about for myself so I asked my Mom to order me the boxed set for my birthday. The only way I could get the American editions was to order them online so thank you very much From the first chapter I knew that I held in my hands the work of a master. The foreshadowing was excellent and the writing painted a perfect picture in my head. By the time I had finished the book I was glad I had the set because I couldn't wait another second for Harry's adventures to continue. I can't really say much more than others have said but I would like to comment on a certain review I just read. H.C. from California has said that the Harry Potter books don't compare to C.S. Lewis, Susan Cooper or Lloyd Alexander. They claim that the other books are more magical. Perhaps what H.C. really means is that the Harry Potter books are very different from the other ones. The books aren't the traditional fantasy novel. Unlike the others, Harry has much more humour and day to day life and isn't as focused on an epic scale battle that will decide the fate of the world. Harry Potter just has to solve a riddle involving his school unlike the Old Ones with their ongoing battle with the Dark or the Pevinses with their quest to free Narnia from Eternal Winter. I perhaps like Rowling's Idea better because it is more original and realistic. The characters in the Rowling novels are also far more developed and interesting than any of the above mentioned authors. In fact, J.K.'s books have more in common with Roald Dahl since he is also very funny, if a little bit more off the wall.(see Matilda). I recommend these books to anyone and everyone!
Rating: Summary: Oops, Uncle Dick! Review: About this time last year (fall 2001) I was getting inundated by all the Harry Potter hype. It was the typical overkill of the entertainment market media--the first movie coming out, the promo stuff at fast food joints, you name it. When I was in Florida last Christmas for the Holidays, I made the mistake of remarking about the issue, that the whole thing was turning into a 21st Century American mantra; "Hare Krishna, Hare Potter, Potter Potter, Hare Hare". I even sang that part in the original chant melody, I was so-oo-oo witty. My 14-year-old niece commented serenely; "I think Harry Potter is awesome." Oops, Uncle Dick--I thought. On the flight back home to upstate New York, I changed flights at Atlanta--and on the airport concourse there, I passed by a bookstore with a huge display of this edition. I stopped in and grabbed one for the connecting flight. The end result was as follows: 1) When the film came out on DVD the following summer, I grabbed that. 2) At this writing, I now have an order in which includes "Chamber Of Secrets" So much for dissing a story I'd never read just because I was sick of the overpromotion. So much also for assuming that just because I'm over 50, a "kid's book" can't possibly interest me. Is Dickens' "A Christmas Carol" only read by children? Nope, I read it every year myself. So there you go. Here's hoping you don't need to embarrass yourself in front of a kid young enough to be your grand-kid before you give this one a try.
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: Absolutely brilliant! The characters are so well thought out that I really got into it. I was able to relate to Harry Potter and his friends, Hermione and Ron. The use of magical terms were astounding. I found that many of the legends and magical herbs coincided with actual legends and ingredients in magical spells. The history of Harry Potter is revealed in bits and pieces which made me want to read on. Hearing about Lord Voldemort (or should I say He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named?) sent shivers up my spine. All in all, this is a wonderful book to read with your children or without!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Review: Absolutely delightful book. The moment I got started I couldn't put it down. It may be written for children, but adults would find it enjoyable as well.
