Summary: Great for Kids
Review: I bought this book for my 12 year old and he loves it (of course not as much as my 5 year old likes The Wild Cookie, but that's not really fair).

For kids learning to read and avid readers alike, this is a great book. Now they're both looking forward to to reading the rest of the series.

Thanks for making it so fun!

Summary: A fantastic fantasy novel for "children of all ages"
Review: I bought this book for my 12 year old son for Christmas after reading about what a phenomenonal best seller it was in Great Britain after it was published. Both my kids read the book quickly and raved about how great it was. I read it too, and must admit that the hype does not exceed the merits of the book. This is a wonderful novel about wizardry and witchcraft filled with adventure and great characters. It is also about every child's longing to be loved, accepted, and protected by their family. Ms. Rowling did a remarkable job in making this novel both entertaining and heartfelt. I recommend it highly to both parents and their children.

Summary: Unbelievably creative and witty!!
Review: I bought this book for my 8 year old son, but after perusing it, found myself as engrossed in at as my son was - so much so that I extended his bedtime just so that we could read it together.

Imagine being Harry Potter, and waking up one day to find out that you have magic powers. What kid doesn't dream of being able to wave a magic wand and cast a spell. I know I did. My son and I were both on the edge of our seats waiting to read what would happen next. Excellent book.!

Summary: A child's book that parents will love!
Review: I bought this book for my four sons and ended up enjoying the book as much or more then they did! I can't wait for the next ones to come. I can't remember the last time I enjoyed reading a story to my children as I have this one. You've got to get it!!

Summary: A Grandmother who Loves Harry Potter
Review: I bought this book for my grandson, but found myself a bit curious about Harry Potter. So, I thought I'd read a few pages, just to get an idea as to what all of the excitement was about. I have now ordered the second book in the series (for myself) because I want to see how much trouble this young wizard can get into and out of!

I found that Harry was a little like Cinderella - with a much more exciting life. I loved the way he learned that he was a famous wizard, and I especially enjoyed reading about the way he found and rode the train to Hogewarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

J. K. Rowling certainly is able to create realisic and fascinating characters who live in an exciting new world of trolls, potions, owls who deliver the mail, brooms that fly, and a wild wizards' game called Quidditch. I enjoyed meeting Harry's new friends, the Hogwart professors, and, yes, even the evil characters. But, most of all, I became entranced with the plot, in which Harry, who never knew he was a famous wizard, learns how to become one. He does this by meeting one challenge after another, and, with the help of his new friends, overcomes each.

I couldn't put the book down, and now I can't wait to read Book 2. As an old 2nd and 5th grade teacher, who also taught college students, I highly recommend this book to everyone, young and old alike. A little bit of fantasy, mixed in with a little bit of adventure, mixed in with a bunch of delightful characters, makes this Senior Citizen a happy reader.

Summary: In Love With Harry Potter and Ron Weasley
Review: I bought this book for my little brother as a means to encourage him to step away from the Playstation and step into the world of literary heaven, however as soon as it arrived in the mail, I found myself eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch and lying on my bedroom floor reading about The Dursleys, Hogwarts and the annoying Slytherin crew. Mind you, I am 18 years old. I thought Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was excellent. There shouldn't be an age limit to this great read. Anyway this fanatic reader from Washington, DC was highly reluctant to give this book back to my little brother.

Summary: a book for everyone that almost everyone seems to have read
Review: I bought this book on impulse. For some reason I was not made averse to the book by all the hype surrounding it. Even from second-hand accounts I could tell there was something genuine here.

This is a sweet, funny and even occasionally moving story. J. K. Rowling's prose is without pretension or artifice. There is nothing in it to distract you from the telling of the tale. The thematic aspects borrow a certain amount from Tolkien and the rest of the British fantasy tradition in that it is a story of good versus evil wherein the personifications of evil are all formerly-good people who have been corrupted by greed and a lust for power. The cast of characters is borrowed freely from all of European folklore. The randomness of having goblins and centaurs in the same story seems merely to lend credence to Rowling's conceit that an entire world exists parallel to our own.

There are many delightful details in this book including the Mirror of Erised, the personality of Hagrid the giant, the choice of names for the characters, the "wizard pictures", the rules to the game of Quidditch, and the succession of rooms and travails that lead to the Sorcerer's Stone. Rowling is able to be original in all these details while at the same time evoking tradition. That is, the devices are fresh and familiar at the same time.

It was the emotionally moving passages of the book that surprised me the most. Rowling conveys feeling without the least suggestion of maudlin and shows us the consequences of good and bad behavior without a trace of hectoring.

I will without hesitation read every book in the series.

Summary: One of the best books my 8 year old son has read.
Review: I bought this book on the advice of a children's book store person. I read the first two chapters to my son and he immediately got into it. He read most of the rest of the book himself and often would give me a summary of the chapter or two he just read. He was so excited about what was going on with Harry Potter. I love it for its rich language and its sense of humor. I highly recommend this book as does my son.

Summary: It was just as wonderful as my daughter said it was!
Review: I bought this book several months ago for my eight year old daughter. Since it's purchase, she has read it, and The Chamber of Secrets, more times than I could count. She raved so much that I had to find out for myself if she was correct. Yes, she is! I've rarely read a book, aimed at children, that could keep my interest the way this one did. I couldn't put either book down until they were finished. Now, the hard part will be deciding who gets to read the next one first!

Summary: My family is now in Harry Potter withdrawal.
Review: I bought this book thinking my nine year old might like it. Now my wife, myself and our two older children have read this book and the next two. We can't wait for the next installment of this lovable wizard and the other students. This is a great book to boost the reading of young boys (and girls).
