Summary: One of the best books ever!!
Review: I am ten years old and I read this book (paperback) two months ago.

It is one of the best books I have ever read. The plot is very clever and the writing is so descriptive you feel like you are in the story.

It is also very funny in places and reminds me a lot of Roald Dahl's stories

Summary: What's the controversy about?
Review: I am the mother of three children. I am sometimes considered very overprotective. I have read all three Harry Potter stories and absolutely loved every one of them. I hear now that there has been some protest about the books being too violent for children, where does this come from? I don't recall any real violent situations. I have seen cartoons more violent than Harry Potter. These books are a treat for your imagination and provide pure reading pleasure for people of all ages. Don't miss out on these stories because of the few negative opinions. Buy them and read them for yourself, you won't be sorry and I guarantee you'll want your kids to enjoy them also.

Summary: Very Addicting!!!!!
Review: I am thirteen and I found that I couldn't just put it down. I finished it in one day reading non stop. I seriously felt like I was in the story and was saddened when I finally finished it. If only life could be that interesting!

Summary: Some striking similarities
Review: I am thoroughly enjoying the Harry Potter books (reading Azkaban now). Once you start reading them, you can't put them down. They are imaginative, fast-paced, and keep you guessing about the outcome until the very end. This is pure escapist literature that enchants child and adult alike. However, I can't help but notice striking similarities to Star Wars. Our hero, Harry (Luke) is an orphan living with relatives (an Aunt & Uncle) that don't understand him and are trying to keep knowledge about his parents from him. He finds two friends, Ron & Hermione (Han & Leia) who share his adventures as he fights the dark lord, Voldemort (Darth Vader). But he has an omnipotent mentor in Albus Dumbledore (Obi Wan or Yoda - take your pick). He also is surrounded by unusual animals, helpful ghosts & elves, and other strange creatures: Hedwig, Scabbers, Crookshanks (R2D2, C3PO, Ewoks). He also has a large and sometimes bumbling ally, Hagrid (Chewbacca). Also, Harry's extraordinary ability with his broomstick mirrors Luke's agility with Landspeeders and X-wings. And inspite of their youth and some harrowing experiences, they both manage to save the day.

Summary: Delightful Harry Potter
Review: I am truly delighted to find a book written for people of all ages to enjoy. While other reviews see Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as a childrens' book (primarily because of the 12 year old protagonist), this book will entertain and please virtually every reader who gives it a chance. For those of us who never outgrew Dr. Suess and understand that the whimsy of Winnie the Pooh is as much for adults as for children, Harry Potter is a blessing, and J.K. Rowling is an author who should be commended for her great success. The book is intelligent, as well as easy to read. Much ado has been made about the subject matter. Pay it no mind. Harry Potter is about a boy growing up, taking responsibility, and trying to have fun as a boy. My recommendation, by a copy for every reader in your family. Even the most jaded literati will find something to tickle their fancy in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

Review: I am very glad that I chose to read this book, Harry Potter, because I really enjoyed it. I would recommend it to any one. I think that all ages can enjoy this book. I really like the way J.K. Rawling wrote the book and how he added so much suspence, and adventure. You will too!

Summary: Truly Fantastic Work
Review: I am very impressed with Rowling's work. She is a very talented author! You don't see many works like "Harry Potter" anymore. It's so refreshing to see the fairy-tale books popping back up for kids again. She creates an impossible little world of magick which is both funny, sad, scary, and altogether charming. These books were not to be aimed only at children. It creates a lot of humor and plots the adults and teenagers would enjoy. While entertaining, it had its serious side. I cried at one part. I was thinking it was a children's book, but there are some pretty freaky things in there! It reminds me of the old fairy tales, and is thus wonderful. Rowling is able to word the story in a impressive wording in an easy-to-understand format. Anyone who is a fan of the imagination and the impossible will appreciate "Harry Potter."

Summary: Not high literature, but a lot of fun.
Review: I avoided the "Harry Potter" craze as long as I could. I figured that if the whole world loves them, they must be awful. (Case in point: "The Bridges of Madison County".) But I was loaned the first book, and was hooked. Though not nearly as inventive as C.S. Lewis, Madeleine L'Engle or Ursula K. LeGuin, J.K. Rowling can weave quite a spell.

I suspect that the reason the masses enjoy the book is because that most of us lead lives that aren't quite what we would wish. So when Harry boards the Hogwarts Express and leaves his dreary life behind, the reader wishes for something similar to happen.

If you are a Christian who believes Harry is unholy, these books really are harmless. If you don't believe me, look up "fiction" in your dictionary. Otherwise, have them read the Narnia books (C.S. Lewis was a very devout Christian, and there are many religious themes woven into the story). Really, they won't be any worse for it.

So don't be a snob (I have a B.A. in English; I'd have a right to despise these novels if I wanted, I suppose). "Harry Potter" is a lovely, intelligent diversion. And it might just get your kid started on reading. Maybe one day he or she will manage to get through Tolkien.
