Rating: Summary: THE BEST BOOK EVER! Review: I am being entirely truthful, this book was the best one I have ever read! I was so interested I finished it in one day, then I read it over and over until the sequel came out! Now that I've read both of them, i feel like I'm going through Harry Potter withdrawl! I have suggested this book to all my friends and they are all Harry fans too!
Rating: Summary: Average Book for 4th to 6th Graders Review: I am completely perplexed by the number of adults who love Harry Potter. After hearing so much hype for the past few years I picked up the first one and think it's an okay children's book. I guess it is as good as many of the books I read at the age of 8 or 9, such as THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH, A CRICKET IN TIMES SQUARE, and JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, but not much better.I have nothing against the book, but after reading the first one I still have no idea what all the hype is about.
Rating: Summary: It was the best book I have ever read. It was EXCITING!!!! Review: I am eight years old and I have just finished reading it 5 minutes ago. I think it should get the best book in the whole world award. Every one would like to read it no matter what age they are. My mum is 38 and she loved it!! and so did I. We are going to the book shop today for the next one!!
Rating: Summary: I loved it!! Review: I am eight years old and I loved this book. My favorite part would have to be when he got a Nimbus 2000 broom stick (actually that is my second favorite part, but my favorite part is at the end and I don't want to give it away). I have started the second book and my favorite part of that book would be when Ron got a howler. I recommend these books. Even though they are long, you will probably finish them in no time.
Rating: Summary: A Magically Good Read Review: I am far from being in the 9-12 age range (over 40) and I truly enjoyed this book. I haven't read such a fun book in a long time. Can't wait to start on the rest of the series. Thank you J.K. Rowling.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good for a First Book Review: I am far too old to be such a Harry Potter fan, but I am. I was not a major fan of this first book. I thought the writing was mediocre at best and the story line too choppy. What makes this book so good, and one you want -- need -- to finish is the character development. Almost from the beginning you're on Harry's side and wishing he could get away from his mean aunt and uncle, and when it finally happens and he's walking down Diagon Alley looking for "school" supplies with Hagrid...well, you're hooked. This series of book is, of course, geared towards young people, but they are much more than your average children's novel. Some of the themes of friendship, good vs. evil, family, and overcoming adversity are timeless themes, which will appeal to any reader -- young or old.
Rating: Summary: One of THE BEST books ever published; for any age! Review: I am fourteen and picked up the First Harry Potter book in mylibrary, and could not put it down. I read the entire book in one dayand I am now finishing up the second. I'm not sure what makes these books so irrisistable, but they are. The detail and description of every item, person and place paints an amazing picture. If you're five, fifteen or fifty, you need to read these books in a big chair with a glass of chocolate milk.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter is a great read for kids and adults. Review: I am fourteen yeas old and have a fairly sophisticated reding taste for my age, (sorry, that danged ego talking again.) and I think that Harry Potter is interesting and entertaining for everyone, not just for kids. I was so enthralled by this book, and I read it in a night!(it required not sleeping till 4:30, but I was captivated). The second book was not quite as gripping, but the third picks up the slack, and by the time you finish the trilogy, you will be waiting impatiently untill July 8th when the 4th comes out. I strongly recommend this book series to anyone!
Rating: Summary: Certainly not just for kids Review: I am getting fairly sick of beating these books over people's heads only to have them look at me and say, "Aren't those books for kids?" Yes, they take place in middle school, and yes, they deal with wizards and flights of fancy and yes, the main characters are not even teenagers. However, Rowling has created books with an excellent sense of plot, she throws in twists and turns that certainly threw me for a number of loops. She is amazing at crafting characters that are engaging, original and a lot of fun to spend a few hours with. To top all of this fact, let us not forget that these are books in a series. In the first book there is a sense of safety, that these are children's books and that a wave of a magic wand is all that is needed to make everything come out alright. But this series is slowly shifting as the books continue, and there is a presence looming at the end of the fourth book that clearly shows us that Dumbledore, the schoolmaster who bails Harry and his friends out here and there during their adventures, is NOT going to be able to wave his magic wand and make everything better. The stakes are raised by the end of the fourth book, the danger is very real and an epic battle is shaping up between good and evil. These books are quick reads and deal with the lives of children in a fanciful world, but they are by no means books for children.
Rating: Summary: Awesome, exciting and lovable!!! Review: I am going to turn fourteen next week, I usually read adult books and I would never let my friends know I had read this book, but I heard all the good stuff about it and decided to read it. I wasn't disappointed. The story is brilliantly creative, the characters are realistic even if they do have magical powers (I just loved the Weasley twins), and it's funny (I laughed out loud several times). The book is very versatile, so that people from three years old to a hundred and three will love it. I haven't read the sequels yet, but I think I'll get them for my birthday so I'll read them then. If you haven't read the Harry Potter books, you need to. This one is awesome!!!
