Rating: Summary: Thank You, J.K. Rowlings! Review: A whole lot of people had recommended these Harry Potter books to me. So finally, I decided to try them. My friend let me borrow the first two books. I didn't think they looked that great, but I decided to read them anyways. And boy, was I surprised! They were great! I thought that the first one, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," was definitely the best. I'd like to give a big thank you to J.K. Rowlings, for writing these wonderful books!
Rating: Summary: Learn to expect the unexpected. Review: A wonderful and comprehensive introduction to the entire Harry Potter series, J.K. Rowling sure knows how to put on a show. This begs the question, can all this escapism be good? I know one thing, it can't be all that bad. For as long as it has us all reading, thinking and talking - Rowling deserves every cent she makes. I was introduced to Harry Potter very late in the game and jumped right into the fourth book. Had I read this book first, it would all have made more sense. To J.K rowling's credit, each book, although part of a whole set, really stands on its own. Actually, if you really look at it objectively, it is one big book with several chapters that just keeps growing. This book in particular - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone focuses on setting up the character of Harry and his introduction to the world of magic in general and Hogwarts in particular. Moreover, we are introduced to the key players in the series notably Harry, Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Dumbledore and Voldemort. OK, so I left a few out and apologize to those with pet characters - I specially appreciate Hermione's mind and wish to see more of her in the upcoming books. Rowling does tend to stay within the traditional roles but gives this female character depth and a razor sharp mind - rare in this genre - where male characters rule. Anyway, we are introduced to Harry at the Dursely's and through a series of communications we find him invited to Hogwarts and his whole history unfolds. Harry, unable to find a sense of justice in the Muggle (meaning non-magical) world, comes to himself in the magical realm. In Hogwarts, he is assigned to Griffindor and is on the house Quidditch team as its Seeker. Harry is at the center of the adventures (or mis-adventures), meeting Dragons, bumping into Voldemort in the forest and escaping him, running into horse related creatures in the forest just beyond Hogwarts. The stories and sub-stories are full of color and very accessible and intricately crafted by Rowling. Granted it is not "The Lord of the Rings" or "Lord Foul's Bane" (and it never pretends to be). She uses a straight narrative style with lots of twists and turns (even if we learn to expect the unexpected) making it a great medium for learning all types of literary styles and techniques. It also lends itself to a wonderful tool for communication between adults and youngsters. A warning.... read the book first - no fair pulling ranks - you will learn more from the youngsters than from you....

Rating: Summary: The best book I've ever read (not including the sequel)! Review: A wonderful book! I've read it four or five times and I'm still not tired of it! My teacher introduced me to it last spring, and ever since I have been completely wrapped up in it! Rowling is a genius! I'm planning to collect all seven of the Harry Potter books. I reccomend this to anybody from 6 to 60.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Review: A wonderful children's story with a few good lessons about life, particularly about the power of love: "to have been loved so deeply, even though the person who loved us is gone, will give us some protection forever." I couldn't agree more: the confidence that comes from having been loved and being loved is the seed of Harry Potter's greatness, and ours, too.
Rating: Summary: Great fun, well written, and engaging. Review: A wonderful read. My son and i were a little intimidated by the length (he's only just starting to read chapter books) but it immediately sunk its hooks into us, and we could wait to read it each night. We enjoyed it so much that he got me the "Chamber of Secrets" for father's day. It reads like an instant classic. Familiar yet new in many ways. The author uses classic elements from witchcraft, wizardry, and fairy tales to spin a wonderful story, with some scary passages, some heart warming, but all of them engaging. A great read!
Rating: Summary: A wonderful begining Review: A wonderful story told in an amazing way. The beginning of an epic tale involving mystery, suspense, danger, and magic. You not only hear this book, you experience it. All of the great story-telling qualities mixed with an absolutely amazing book. This is where it all begins, and this is how it must be experienced. Visualize yourself as the orphaned boy wizard and travel to the new and wonderful worlds created by J.K. Rowling in exquisite detail and masterfully narrarated by Jim Dale... This is a wonderful beginning.
Rating: Summary: Sorcerer's Stone Review: A wonderful, rich, humorous, adventure. The Greatest book I read. I went to see the movie before I read the book. After the movie, me and my mom had to stop at the store. I asked if I could have the book. The Movie was excellent; 31/2 Stars. But the book changed my life. I thought after seeing the movie nothing could be better, then I read the book. I was amazed at how J.K Rowling could tie so many different elements into a book. The great novel had me racing through the pages wanting more and getting it. Easily, the most incredible fantsy novel ever. The book that started it all. Congrats to JK Rowling for being an exellent author, and keep up the good work.
