Summary: Read this book with your kids! It is great!
Review: I am an adult and I love this book. I love(d) the whole series. J.K. Rowling is an amazing author who uses many literature techniques to keep the story interesting and entertaining. Her character development and descriptions are amazing. Many criticize her for writing about witches, spells, and pagan ideas. Many also criticized Roald Dahl and other outstanding authors for similar things. Take it for what it is: a well-written fantasy story involving fictional characters and events. Don't ascribe real-life moral statements to it or you will start motivating weak-willed people to try to turn it into reality! Here's my view: Rather than censoring this book from your children (thereby motivating them to read it anyway---those of you who have kids know this will happen), read it before them and read it with them. Teach them to distingish between fantasy and reality, and what it means to have both. What is really real? Certainly not Harry Potter and his friends. Teach them the necessity of having some fantasy in your life, whether it manifests itself in writing, reading, singing, or playing music. As a conservative myself, believe me when I say that book-burning and censoring statements get us nowhere.

Read this book and read the whole series. Take it for what it is: an extremely well-written and entertaining piece of fiction. Enjoy it! And when you're done, put it down and go out into the real world and make a difference for the good!

Summary: Very creative and a lot of fun.
Review: I am an adult and picked up this book because everyone was talking about it. For once I was not disappointed by the hype. Although this book is very simple minded it still intrests adults because of how well crafted and magical it is.

I think that is what appealed to me the most about this story is how vivid the descriptions were and how much they made me want to see all these places. To bad Hogwarts doesn't really exist I would love to see it.

I loved all the magical beasts, the creation of the specail sport quiditch. I commend Rowling on how she has created this world without going overboard. She uses her charcters to keep the book grounded in reality. Harry, Ron, and Hermoine suffer through all the anxieties of school and life, of course it is wizard school but it still seems real. The other way she grounds her story is to show the Muggle world and how charcters live differently in it.

The one complaint I do have is that everything seems to black and white. The lines between good and evil are to clearly draw, there is very little grey. However, I think that is because this book is written for a younger audience. On the whole this is a really good book and well worth the read no matter what your age is.

Summary: We all have a wizard within us ---
Review: I am an adult member of today's stressful society plagued with unmagical and unwizardly daily happenings. Then, Harry Potter entered my world and unleashed the magic within me. I will be forever grateful to J.K. Rowling for giving birth to Harry. He and his friends at Hogwarts and the horrible horrible Dursley's ( a very Muggle reminder of reality) have become a part of my existence. Please don't think that you have to be a child to read this book - adults unite and read ALL the Harry Potter series. Thank you J.K. Rowling. You've inspired me.

Summary: Delightful!
Review: I am an adult who bought this book because it sounded interesting and I thought I'd give it to my niece (she's 9 yrs. old). Sorry...I am keeping it! I read it myself and couldn't wait to read the next one. I've always loved fantasy books and this one is quirky and fun. I can't wait to get the next one. I hope the author gives us many, many more.

Summary: Very impressive!
Review: I am an aspiring twenty-two year old fantasy writer, and at my mother's urging I borrowed this book from my younger siblings and brought it back to my apartment. After being disappointed by other famous authors, I certainly approached this book with a frown. I must say, by the time I was finished I was (and still am) craving the second book. Something about Rowling's story just brought out my inner child, and made me experience life as an eleven year old with all the things I could have wanted and didn't have at that age, for a too-short 300 pages. This was a far more enjoyable read than any trite David Eddings or insomnia curing Robert Jordan I've had to wade through at the urging of friends. Rowlings has definitely won my respect and appreciation.

Summary: cool introduction to fantasy genre for youngsters
Review: I am an avid reader of adult and children's books and am always looking for something to inspire my sons to read. It wasn't until Harry Potter that my 11 year old (now 12) discovered the joy of reading. He reluctantly took the book when I brought it home with his typical "oh great mom, another book" gratitude...Well, my heart soared when he started reading it and he couldn't put it down! He raved about how good it was, wouldn't sleep or EVEN watch TV. He has read all three in the series and is greatly anticipating the next one.

While we have been waiting he has read "The Golden Compass" and "The Subtle Knife" by Philip Pullman, "Dark Is Rising" by Susan Cooper and "Holes" by Louis Sachar...all of which he says are even better than Harry, which he rates 11 on a scale 1-10.

I have read the Sorcerer's Stone & Chamber of Secrets (at my sons insistence) and find the books charming. The fast pace, high adventure, fun story and good writing make these books easy for kids to love. J.K.Rowling has my undying gratitude for turning my son onto the joy of reading!

Summary: Exciting and Thilling!
Review: I am an elementary school teacher and my students just loved this book. We had a great time anticipating what Harry and his friends would do next. It is truly an adventurous read. It allowed the students to exercise their imagination and lose themselves in a fictional world of magic and mysticism as only could be seen through a child's eyes.
