Rating: Summary: The most excitement I have seen from kids in a book! Review: I am a sixth grade teacher in Reno, Nevada and I read books to my class on a regular basis. I have never seen children get so involved in any one book. It is truely exciting to see kids want to read, constantly! This is must have book!
Rating: Summary: This book is spectacular! Review: I am a teacher in Seattle and I think Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is one of the best books I have ever read. I am encouraging all the students in my class to read this series with their families or as a challenge reading of their own. I liked Rowling's first book because of her attention to detail and unpredictable twists and turns. I especially liked it when Harry began flying using his broom. The mystery and intrigue about the secret stone certainly kept my interest. I had many questions after reading this book so I know I'll read the next books in Rowling's series. This is a classic book that will thrill millions of readers to come!
Rating: Summary: Children are READING, that's what's IMPORTANT! Review: I am a teacher of German in an elementary school. At the beginning of this school year I began seeing Harry Potters books in my student's hands. As the year progressed, I was noticing how reluctant they were to put their books down when I was starting class. They would stand up from the reading center in their classroom and read all the way to their desks. I finally decided two weeks ago to find out what these books were all about.I read the first book in 5 days, the second book in 4 days and I've just started the third book. I also just finished reading several hundred reader reviews here at Amazon.com. I simply do not see the harm in these books! My joy is that children are READING, children who before these books didn't have any interest in reading. And when they finish the Harry Potter books they are continuing to pick up other books and read them. I teach in a school full of Southern Baptists, Catholics, Protestants, and other religiously-raised children. They are reading for the pure joy of reading, not because they are being drawn into a world of satanic rites and occultic rituals. None of my students have aspirations of becoming witches and wizards. These books are works of FICTION and they realize that! If we must, let's look at the original versions of the Grimm Fairy Tales. Those stories were violent and blood-filled, often leaving the 'bad guy' killed in some gruesome fashion. Yet those are some of the timeless classics we now encourage our children to read. Let's look past some of the 'hidden meanings' people are seeing in these books and rejoice in the fact that our children are READING!
Rating: Summary: A motivating, suspensful and mysterious story in one book. Review: I am a teacher. I work with third graders. I bought this book after attending a workshop about the new books from 1999. I began reading and decided I must read it aloud to my students. As we were reading, the children would beg for me to read more. Five of the children bought the book as we were reading it and finished it on their own. They were so enthralled with the suspense and intrigue of the story. When we finished, one of our parents got on-line and ordered the second story from England so we could read it even before it was released in the U.S. I now own both hard copies and cannot wait for the third and the rest. J.K. Rowling has truly captured the hearts of children. My original Harry Potter has been loved by over ten adults so far also. I applaud her wonderful writing.
Rating: Summary: Harry Poter: A book for all ages Review: I am a teen and I had seen allot of people reading this bookand I thought it was for kids. I didn't want to read it because Ithought it wasn't up to my "level" of reading, boy was IWRONG! My gifted teacher told us to read this book and figure out why it had been on the New York Times Best Sellers list for so long. I can totally see why now, it is charming, mystical, and takes you to a place that you dream about going to. The never ending adventures of Harry Potter are a joy for everyone to read, I recomend it to any skeptical readers that think this book is not on their "level," because they will be in for a big shock when they see how awsome this book is!
Rating: Summary: Review from a First Timer Review: I am a ten-year old boy that has just finished reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and this is what I think of the book, I think the book is amazing and it's so interesting, it is so interesting that I skipped breakfast, lunch and dinner in my room reading it non stop, except to turn the pages!
Rating: Summary: ENCHANTING AND ENTHRALLING! Review: I am a thirty year old woman and I loved this book! It was amazing! I live in South Carolina and there was some debate in the town in which I live as to whether these books were suitable for children. This book teaches that friendship, honesty and loyalty are traits that are to be rewarded. The wizardry and magic is secondary to the theme of this wonderful novel. I would encourage my children to read it. Harry is an endearing little boy with many problems that all kids his age can relate to, problems such as school bullies, unpleasant adults, and tough homework assignments. Rowling does a wonderful job unraveling her stories. The characters are inviting, even the evil ones! You just want to know what they are going to do next. I am quite jealous! Harry has a very exciting life! Except for those rotten Dursley's!I was completely engrossed in this book until it was over! I have read her second book "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" as well. I am now not letting myself read the third novel because then it will be over and I don't know how long I can wait on the fourth!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book Review: I am a twenty six year old who just started ready harry potter, and it was wonderful truly enjoyable. Recommended for muggles of allages.
Rating: Summary: Ignore the Reading Level Recommendation! Review: I am a twenty-something studying literature and philosopy and I adored this book! I don't find it at all "childish." This book is like "Alice in Wonderland" in that readers of all ages can revel in it! I recommend for all readers to read each of the books in this series at least once each year. Each time you'll pick up on something new to think about. This book is great in that it does not insult the intelligence of its readers (no matter their age). I wish it was around when I was a kid. But now, being older, I delight in the many allusions to ancient mythology and mysticism--as well as the fine quality of the prose and the rich philosophical points that the book (intentionally or not)raises.
Rating: Summary: Get Ready For An Adventure!!!!!!! Review: I am a wife/mom who enjoys reading a good book. I grew reading the tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table the Arabian Nights, and the Chronicles of Narnia. So it seemed natural to investigate the world of Harry Potter. From reading the first few paragraphs I knew I was hooked! Rowling has created a world from her imagination just as her predecessors C.S. Lewis and J.R. Tolkein have. She writes about issues which are current to our society while at the same time teaching moral values/lessons similar to the ones taught in the Chronicles of Narina and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. I have read all four books and have number five on its way in the mail today. I personally can not find anything wrong with the material which is contrary to the view some parents, particularly fundamentalist Christians hold. Both I and the children's ministry pastor of our church read the books and came to the same conclusion. The books are great for parents/children to read together but would recommend not reading it to children under the age of 8 years. I am not going to give away the plot of the book it is too good, you'll have to purchase your own copy to find out what happens. Get ready, set, go on the greatest adventure in children's literature yet!!!!!!!!
