Rating: Summary: Great book!! This is the best yet of the series. Review: I had trouble putting this one down. The Prisoner of Azkaban was a little "darker" than the previous two books in the series (my 7 year old had nightmares about the Dementors), but was thoroughly enjoyable. The plot twists are extremely clever and J.K. Rowling certainly has a way with descriptive language. I can't wait until the next book in the series is available!!
Rating: Summary: Another enchanting story from J.K. Rowling Review: I have a confession: I'm 33 and I love these books! Completely enthralling, suspenseful stories with wonderful detail and atmosphere. It's hard to believe that Hogwarts doesn't exist! As for some parents objections about violence, clearly they haven't read the books. The heros are appalled at violence and only act in self defense or defense of others. These are wonderful stories about the power of parental love and true friendship. Should be required reading for everyone!
Rating: Summary: It's the best book ever made Review: I have a subsription to a magazine which had a 3 page pre view of the 3rd Potter book, and it was amazing, so I picked up the 1st 2 books and they were incredeble, and this one DEFINITLY is 1 of the best ones. I REALLY hope the rest come soon. Hear that, J. K. Rowling?
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter is the coolest wizard Review: I have all the Harry Potter books and have read them all. I think this ones the best because it reflects on what really happened to Harry's family and their childood. It also has more of my favorite parts: Quidditch! My favorite sport in the world (or the wizard world).
Rating: Summary: THE MOST MAGICAL BOOK EVER! Review: I have already read Harry Potter and the Sorcerers stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and I think that they are the most wonderful and enchanting books that I have ever read! No wonder they are so popular!
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ive Ever Read! Review: I have always enjoyed fantasy! But this book is by far the best book i have ever read in my entire life. This book is a great for all ages. Also it is a good book for reading to young children before they go to bed. But dont get me wrong! All ages should enjoy the book! The twists and tricks are very good. The story has a good plot with plenty of humor and *MAGIC* too! When Harry learns a new spell it feels like you learned it too! Also book 3(this one) wraps up some very big questions you have been wondering about if you are a Harry fan! ( ) Have fun reading!
Rating: Summary: Third book in Series is really for an older audience Review: I have been enjoying the Harry Potter books very much but was moved to submit this review after reading this last entry in the series. I am not some kind of Ultra-religious Book Burner.. far from it. In fact, I enjoyed fantasy books at a young age. If you scroll down here far enough you will see many other readers confirming my opinion that this last book, while fun and beautifully written, has brought the series to a Darker, more frightening end of the Spectrum and may possibly be a signal that this series is intending to reach out to an Older Audience now. I feel that Parents with easily frightened children or young kids (under age 10 or 11, for example)who tend towards nightmares may, and I say "May".. want to read this themselves BEFORE handing it over to their kid. Another good thing to do would be read it TOGETHER. As a Devout Catholic, I would want to explain some of these concepts to my own child from our point of view but I would never forbid them to read it. I feel that by saying this to you, the parent, in this review, I might be able to communicate to you in a rational way, the importance of sharing good and scary books. Even so.. if this trend continues in future books, this series will cease to be appropriate for young readers and instead would be more appropriately considered a "Young Adult" title which is aimed at children over 12. Just be aware of the content and once you are, enjoy the book for what it is. Just don't be shocked if you find the material a little too mature for your own child.
Rating: Summary: A Definate Must-Read! Review: I have been reading the reviews on this page and some of them are so misleading that I feel I have to write something to put everything straight. (Agreeing or Disagreeing with the review doesn't help much) Firstly, I have to make clear that the series DOES NOT teach Witchcraft. That is totally absurd. I know enough about the REAL craft to confirm my statement. (By the way, the craft is not all evil, the witches and wizards in the story are very much the sterotypical ones....the real ones are very different.) So Catholics and Christians around the world...do not fear, this book is tremendously safe. I am a Catholic myself and I can safely say that I have not turned evil overnight just by reading this book. The second thing is that the series is NOT getting "darker" as many reviewers have put it. It is simply becoming more complex, more well-planned and thought out. The characters and the plot mature as the author, Ms Joanne Rowling, gains more writing experience. Ms Rowling, I beg you, please do not make your plots shallow and superficial just because some parents are saying that your stories are getting "darker" and more and more "unsuitable for children". Like Jennifer Qowans from the US said, it teaches positive moral values and shows how the characters overcome their fears. If you think the "bad guys" in the story are too scary for your child or whatever, why then, pick up some other book! Enid Blyton should be safe enough to handle!
Rating: Summary: A true treasure of a book. Review: I have enjoyed so very much traveling to Hogwart's with Harry for each school year, and now, in Book 3, Harry is growing up a bit, and the results are great fun! Harry still has an incredible penchant for finding trouble, and this book is no different than the other two in that respect. Harry must now fear Sirius Black, a sinister and evil sounding figure from his past that is searching for Harry. The magic spells, the potions, the divinations, the descriptions of it all - are just fabulous. I love when Harry looks at photos and the people in them wave back at him, and when trees strike back and owls deliver mail. This author's imagination is priceless, and the book not only delights children, but adults will find it pure fun. Go ahead and escape for awhile, read all of these books!
