Rating: Summary: J.K. Rowling is the Best Review: I am a 4th grader with a passion for reading fiction since I was only 5 years old. When my dad bought me Rowling's books, I thought he must be kidding because the text were in large print which made me think that the books were only meant to be read by "kids." But after reading all of them, I can say that they are the best out of the hundred or more books I have read in my lifetime. Sorry Tolkien.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful!!! Just wish J. K. Rowling could write faster... Review: I am a avid reader, and I have read all the Newbery Medal books. None of them are as fabulous as Harry Potter. I stayed up past midnight to read the first two in the series. The Prisoner was just as great. If only there were more writers like Rowling...
Rating: Summary: The Best of The Harry Potter Books! Review: I am a big Harry Potter fan and after reading the first two books I knew I liked Harry Potter. But afetr reading the 3rd book, the Prisoner of Azkaban, I knew I loved Harry Potter. The third book is amazing. At first you don't know what to expect, toward the middle you think you know but at the end, there's a shocking twist, that's when you know you were wrong all along! This book made me laugh, made me cry, and especially made me feel like I was there! READ THIS BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Please read all of this, especially the last part : ) Review: I am a Christian, but my complaint with these books is not that they are "dark". I didn't find them scary at all. These books are a combination of a sports story, a school story, and a fantasy story. My problem was the unrealistic story and cardboard characters. You notice that Malfoy never gets into as much trouble as Harry no matter what he does, the descriptions include such cliched phrases as: "twinkling eyes", and Snape is unfair to everyone he doesn't like (In reality, the headmaster would intervene with the excessive unfairness). In addition to that, the girls are stereotyped (of course the smart girl has to wear glasses and be a know-it-all, and in the last book SOME girls wouldn't have fallen for Lockhart) and so are the bad guys (Like they would really be mean to _everybody_?). Also, the wizards never even attempt to help "Muggles" (so really, what is the point of wizardry, if not to help others?) and despite the fact that a certain house in Hogwarts turns out so many obviously dark wizards, no one ever does anything about it. Nothing in this book moved me, how can anyone compare it to Tolkien? Who, having finished the Lord of the Rings, hasn't felt a pang of _something_ when reading the last sentence? I could go on forever, but if you really want something good to read, try the Lord of the Rings, C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia, Lloyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles, any of Diana Wynne Jones' children's books (I especially loved Archer's Goon), Roald Dahl's Matilda (which despite being wickedly funny, reminds me of the first of this series) or Diane Duane's So You Want to be a Wizard. **The BEST thing about the Harry Potter books is that they are introducing people to a love of reading, which I hope will last them a lifetime.**
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcers Stone Review: I am a grandmother and just read this book. It was so well done, I plan on getting all three and having them for my grandchildren. They were beautifully written and the descriptions were unsurpassed in clarity. I would recommend them to anyone with a bit of child in them, and to everyone who likes good literature. They easily spark the imagination and the story line keeps the reader interested all through the book. Five stars from me also.
Rating: Summary: Magical Review: I am a grown adult..and I am wild about Harry. I want Harry t-shirts!! Harry bumper stickers!!! Most of all I want the next Harry Potter book!!! This books are truly magical.
Rating: Summary: When is the next one going to be here? Review: I am a grown-up. I know this because I look in the mirror as I get ready in the mornings and worry about bills to pay and deadlines to meet. But Harry Potter has taken over, just as he has twice before. I drove to the bookstore right after work and turned off the ringer on my phone to start reading. It's been like that for three evenings, and now I'm ready to read it again. This book has continued the series beautifully and I enjoyed the references to souls and to the power that comes from happiness and memories of joy. The suspense is tangible and the wit is delightful. This book touches the child in anybody, regardless of age, and offers hours of pure reading enjoyment for all readers. I don't know if it's the details, the marvelous characters or the way the series builds and grows, but I do know that instead of thinking of bills, etc. in the mornings lately, I've caught myself wishing I could go to Hogwarts with Harry, Ron and Hermione too.
Rating: Summary: Not just any book! Review: I am a huge fan of HP and luckily The Prisoner of Azkaban is just as good as the first two. I really tried to stay away from books all of my life, but when HP came out, it was a dream come true! Now I really love reading. My favorite HP books are in this order 4321. I like TGOF more, but in my oppinion every HP book is a winner. book 1 is my least favorite, even though I really love it! It's just because there was not enough magic and evil in it. I tottaly recomend TPOA because it is soooooo dark and interesting, and still a page turner
Rating: Summary: The best book I have read in a long time! Review: I am a junior at Harvard university, and I started to forget why I liked reading so much, since now I always fall asleep trying to read my school books. And then, by chance, this book fell in my hands and I couldn't go to sleep, just because i couldn't close this book! It is so entertaining, and it is a demanding book, since it makes the reader think. It is like a mistery book, and the outcome is very surprising. That is what I liked the most, I had no clue why so many things happened and all of a sudden everything was cleared in such a harmonious way. It is great for kids, because it will teach them how to pay attention to details and how to analyze things. But I recommend it to all ages, it brings you back to childhood and it reminds you what the magic of reading is all about.
Rating: Summary: Ripping good read for the over 9 set Review: I am a mother of a 6 year old. She and I blazed through the first two books over the Summer. She was completely enchanted by the first book, and little nervous with the second (particularly when the fate of a certain feline became rather suspenceful). My husband, who read the book a couple weeks ago, was shocked that I had read something to her with direct allusions to suicide. And in retrospect, I was probably too bound up in the story to have really given that aspect of Moaning Myrtle's history much thought. I read the 3rd book on my own, completely unable to do anything else until I was done; it was that gripping! But I must admit, Harry has, at this point, outgrown my daughter. The concept of the Dementors' power to feed off human happiness and to make a delicacy of the human soul is just a bit too much for a little kid. I will likely keep this and all future installments on a higher shelf until she is older. If you are in the same boat as us, looking for another adventure suitable for this age, I would direct you to My Father's Dragon.
