Rating: Summary: Best of the 3 Review: Well this book had so many surprises. Some of the supises were all coming at the same time so it got confusing but at the end it all came together. I love the little time travel hour glass thing. I havent read the 4th but I will soon.
Rating: Summary: Very good, but... Review: Well, I gave it 5 stars so you know I liked the book, but I doubt that Harry Potter books could stand up against the imagination, writing, and characters in many good fantasy books. I realize that they're for children, but still. This particular book was the best of the series, but the pacing near the middle was rather slow. There weren't enough subplots to keep it interesting and the fighting between Ron and Hermione got boring. The climax, though, was definitely the best of the series so far. Also, the kids didn't act like 13-year-olds. They have barely matured since the first book. Note on the 4th book: I think Rowling may be making a major tactical error in making the fourth book 752 pages long. I would almost say that is a typo, but the Barnes and Noble website says the same. 500 pages or so was about my limit back when I was the age of most of her audience (9-12 year olds), and I was reading several grade levels above my own. Long doesn't = hard but 752 pages may be a bit of a turnoff to most kids that age.
Rating: Summary: Far superior to Chamber of Secrets Review: Well, I really must say that JK Rowling nailed it with this one. The mystery and characters are so much more involving than they were in the second in this time there is yet another Defense Against the Black Arts teacher; Prof. Lupin. Who has been my fave teacher so far. Plus the Quidditch matches are more entertaining thanks to Harry's new broom.Tho I did kind of figure out Hermione's secret and Lupin's illness right away. But the way they are woven into the climax is pretty clever. And this time there actually IS a climax. Last time I felt like it was more of a poor excuse to tie up loose-ends and full of unconvincing exposition. Not so here I'm pleased to say, this is a better mystery with a better ending. Tho longer than Chamber of Secrets I find that this installment is quicker with more humor and sarcastic wit. I hope that JK Rowling keeps this up with the rest of the series as it is needed to balance out all the dark elements. I haven't read Goblet of Fire yet but I hope it's just as cool. But for now, Prisoner of Azkaban gets a definite 5/5
Rating: Summary: They just get better and better! Review: Well, I thought the other two Harry Potter books were fantastic, but Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was more than fantastic. It was spectacular! When I finally got to read the book, I was reading it at night, and I kept saying to myself, "just one more chapter, then sleep," but I ended up finishing it that night, because I always wanted to find out what would happen in the next chapter, and if Sirius Black would catch Harry, and if they would win the Quidditch match. The Quidditch matches were exciting, because I really wanted Gryffindor to win. And it was driving me mad trying to work out how Hermione was getting to all her lessons. I can't wait to read the fourth book in the series. I wonder what's going to happen at Hogwarts in Harry's fourth year!
Rating: Summary: I need the 4th one now! Review: Well, if most readers have gotten to this point in the series and have read the first two books, I don't think they need much convincing or assistance from any review to know that this one is as good, if not even better than the others. There aren't many books on the bestseller lists today that are truly feel-good-happy-type reads, but Harry Potter is definitely one of them. It is so wonderful to just sit down and read a fun story for once, so, to all the other Muggles, if you haven't joined the Potter craze yet, please do so :)
Rating: Summary: Bewitched by a book Review: Well, it all started when my young sister (9) got a Harry Potter book as a gift. I, thinking it to be a stupid and childish book, smugly glanced at it over the top of a more 'sophisticated' book. My friend, however, loved the book and had it on tape. She turned it on before we went to sleep at her sleepover. As she slept, I listened to the tape, even though I had no clue what was going on. It was near the end of this book and I listened until my friend woke up and turned it off. Having second thoughts about the series, I picked up my sister's book (the 1st) and read. I couldn't stop until I was done! The next day, I went to the nearest book store and purchased the other two copies. I went to bed at 1:00a.m. Bewitched by a book. This book is my personal favorite of the series, teaching you to look past the obvious and find the hidden truth. The series is no longer those 'childish' books at which I sneer at. Now, I feel that _I_ am the one being sneered at by the book. I too have fallen under its spell. Drat, ensnared by another amazing series!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Well, JK Rowling has just make another excellent story, she got a lots of imagination. Prepare yourself to enter in the world of the magic, and leave your stupid "muggle"life. Please, sont cry when you get out of wizard world. It's exciting and you may just think it's real. What if JK Rowling graduate from Hogwarts?
Rating: Summary: Third time is still the charm Review: Well, maybe I should say continues the charm. And surpasses it too. J. K. Rowling tops the first two books with The Prisoner Of Azkaban hands down. This story has Sirius Black, heir apparent of Voldemort who was convicted of killing thirteen people, having escaped from Azkaban Prison after being heard saying in his sleep "He's at Hogwarts". Could it be Harry? After possibly the worst episode at the Dursleys, Harry runs away, only to eventually be saved under the auspices of Cornelius Fudge, Minister of Magic and Arthur Weasley's boss. Harry not only learns of Sirius Black's escape but that Black was the one who betrayed his parents to Voldemort and might be after Harry. Two of the three teachers making their debut in this book are noteworthy. One is Professor Lupin for Dark Arts and way better than Gilderoy Lockhart, and, drum roll please... Rubeus Hagrid teaching Care of Magical Creatures. The book takes on a darker tone with the appearance of Dementors, the hooded wraith-like guards from Azkaban who suck the soul out of people and leave them as zombies. I kind of wonder if J.K. Rowling realized that adults were also reading Harry Potter and she put some elements to retain them in the reading market. Tensions however, rise between Ron and Hermione, especially after the latter gets a pet, a large ginger cat named Crookshanks. Remember Ron's pet? Not only that but Hermione is really having a difficult term, loading herself with so many courses. Hogsmeade, the wizard village where third-year students and above are allowed to go to the candy stores, joke-shops, and the bar, the boggart, a creature that turns into one's worst fears and the spell to get rid of it, and a magical map are among the clever ideas represented here. Year Three tops Year Two in many respects. One is the ripening the many characters but also intensifying the bonds and conflicts between them. Hermione is more of a know-it-all, Neville is clumsier than ever, Draco is more malicious than before, and anyone who thought the Dursleys and Professor Snape couldn't be more odious, well, think again. Still another is filling in the gaps of certain events witnessed in previous books, and personal interractions, so the reader can construct an elaborate history of Harry and Hogwarts. Running four chapters more than The Chamber Of Secrets, The Prisoner Of Azkaban is at this point the best in the series, given the dark nature of The Goblet Of Fire. The questions now are, how much of this book will be retained in the movie adaptation, and two, how much longer will the movie be compared to Chamber of Secrets.
Rating: Summary: Another Excellent Book Review: Well, what can I say? The number of stars says it all. Rowling's books are spectular and full of new, imaginative thoughts, stories, and characters. I thought that after two excellent books that Rowling wouldn't be able to produce another of the same calabre, but she did, and in flying colors too. Harry's life just seems to get more and more exciting and just when you think you've read everything, you have to think again. Another excellent book by my now favourite writer.
