Rating: Summary: Darker yes, better ? Review: Everything I read about this before it came out was how dark it was going to be, so I guess I was prepared. It is darker and Harry is, how can I say this, meaner. I'm not sure this is a good thing. He stalks people with plans to harm them, he snaps at Ron and Hermione and basically he can be pretty much of a jerk. Now to the good part. All of the fun things are here. All the cool things in Harry's world, the great teachers, the magic, Hagrid, Ron's family and everything you would expect. I enjoyed the book and look forward to the next one (about the time I reach college, HA). Hopefully Harry loses a bit of the attitude next time.
Rating: Summary: One Word: Depressing Review: Obviously, any Harry Potter fan must buy, or at least read this book. However, don't expect it to be the happy cheerful books that J.K. has written before. Instead, it is dark, gloomy, and full of teenage mood swings. Obviously Harry has grown up a bit. Content-wise, the book is great, but it's a bit too dark for those who like happy stories!
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK ROCKS!!! Review: J.K Rowling's style of writing has matured gracefully. She also has so much imagination its almost unbelievable. -There is so much wonderful detail in her book, and she puts just the right amount, its almost as if she is writing about a real magical world.
Rating: Summary: Am I reading the wrong book? Review: From all the four and five stars that this book is getting, I can't help thinking: am I reading the wrong book? Due to loyalty to Harry Potter, I endured a lot of aggrevation and frustration in finishing this book, at many points too angry with the book to want to continue. In short, this book has no story, no mystery, and no humor. I read the first four books about five times each, but I will NEVER read book five again! ...
Rating: Summary: Dark and Tedious Review: Book five, The Order of the Phoenix, is a very dark and tedious read (the real action doesn't start until the last 106 pages). At times I was disconcerted as to where Ms. Rowling was headed with her story; trying to distinguish between plot and "filler" (did we really need to descend through Sirrus Black's family tree? Pleez!). I would suggest to the readers of this book to review or re-read book four. It had been a year for me and I had trouble remembering characters. In this book Harry's personality takes a turn for the worse. At first I thought Harry might be suffering from post traumatic stress syndrome. However as the book arduously rambles on it becomes painfully obvious that he has made the transition from super hero to nothing more than a typical egocentric, self indulged, poor me, temper tantrum, teenager. I was hoping Hermione would zap him with a "Prozac spell". Even the painting on Dumbledore's wall were growing tiresome of Harry; in the words of Phineas Nigellus; "...he would much rather be tragically misunderstood, and wallow in self-pity..." I applaud Ms. Rowling in her increasingly complex choice of words, not only entertaining her young audience but also challenging them to expand their vocabulary. Ms. Rowling also writes outstandingly on the subject of the grieving process. She shows us Cho, as she deals with the loss of Cedric; and writes brilliantly as we see Harry's mind set, thought process, and questions about death, with the loss of his loved one. Hopefully books six and seven won't be so dark.
Rating: Summary: Not the best in the series Review: Being the biggest harry potter fan i would say the fourth book was better than this. The third and fourth books had plot twists at the end and this book didnt. Most of the fans and i knew what was going to happen next as we read the book. thisn book is still very good even if its not as good as the fourth. it was worth it to spend about 5 hours waiting for midnight to come and then reading the book in 1 1/2 days. I thoght this book had a lot of humor in it. alot of funny sarcasim and jokes. some funny lines are LIKE THIS: "Cool name," said Harry, grinning and falling into a step beside his cousin. "But you'll always be Ickle Diddykins to me." OR THIS "Would you like us to clean out your ears for you?" inquired George, pulling a long and lethal-looking metal instrument from inside one of his Zonko's bags "Or any part of your body, really, we're not fussy where we stick this," said Fred This wasnt the best book in the series but its still worth reading
Rating: Summary: One of My Least Favorite Review: The story behind Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is very good and thorough. Rowling, as in previous books, makes the reader feel like they are right there with Potter. The characters are equally good, except Harry. I think I would have really enjoyed this book had Harry not been a whiny little baby. I got soo tired of him losing his temper at everyone. I understand Rowling was trying to make him appear to be a hormone filled teenager but being 15 myself I found him just to be a brat. Also the tone is so dark. The happy-go-lucky tone of the previous books is totally void. Also I didn't find the twists and turns as shocking as everyone else says. I pretty much made inferences from previous clues in books about Harry's connection with Voldemort. Plus the ending climax scene is pretty much like 4's except with Dumbledore instead of Harry. Overall this is a good book and if you've already read the other 4 keep going. The book was kind of a let down after number 4 and after three years of work, but it is a good read.
Rating: Summary: Bring On #6, JK!! Review: This has got to be one of my all time favorite books period! (In my opinion, it was even better than Goblet of Fire, which is a feat itself!) Harry is now 15. He definitly shows his age by arguing with his friends Ron and Hermione at the beginning. During Harry's excitment-filled fifth year at Hogworts, he meets the new D.A.D.A teacher, Professor Dolores Umbridge whom everyone (including myself) loves to hate! Ron is on the Quidditch team as keeper, and Harry gets kicked off the team!! Harry's relationship gets stronger with his godfather, Sirius Black. Harry has his first kiss with Cho Chang!! (What a disaster that was!) Hermione becomes a prefect. (Big shock for us all!) Fred and George let all of hell go lose at school, Prof. Trelawney gets sacked, and of course O.W.L.S. for all the fifth years! I was shocked that ______ dies!! Overall, another phenomenal addition to the series, and I can't wait for #6!! Happy Reading!!
Rating: Summary: Too Much of Nothing Review: I was disappointed with this installment. It dragged on (in the most repetitive way) about 500 pages too long. The "revelation" that either Harry goes or Voldemort was a no-brainer. And, for me, the biggest bummer was that J.K. Rowling didn't advance the romance between Ron and Hermione, which had been building nicely through the first four books. The fourth book, it seems, was long because it needed to be, while this one was long because the author wanted a hefty offering. It's just too bad she didn't have enough of a story to support its length.
Rating: Summary: What are you going to do? Review: If this was the first of the 5, I never would have read #2. Fortunately/Unfortunately it isn't. So I struggle through and just hope that the next book is better. Hopefully I won't keep repeating this experience until the series is over. The first 3 books are fantastic. The forth book is good. This book is ok....
