Rating: Summary: Long, Dark, and Good Review: This book was great!! Harry's back and this book is dark now that He-who-must-not-be-named is back. It's almost 900 pages but is really good and goes by fast. I waited sooooooo long for this book to come out and it was worth it. It's well worth the price to buy it because you will fall in love with it.
Rating: Summary: Exciting! Review: I thought book 5 was exciting! Sure, it was a tad lengthy....sure, there were some subplots that could have been left out....sure, I'm getting used to the "kids" saving the world from Voldermort at the end of every book. But hey, I thought it was exciting! Too bad I finished it because now the excitement is over. Guess I'll just have to read it again!
Rating: Summary: a good start for the next two books Review: Althought my favorite book is the harry potter and goblet of fire, I found that this book have a lot of information that I guess would be useful in the following two books.
Rating: Summary: Book is good format is shakey Review: No real commits on the text (tooo much bias) but the format, meaning the CD's are badly made. The batch I purchased had bad tracks on disk 9 and 12 and the replacement package also played the same bad tracks. GOOD LUCK.
Rating: Summary: The Best So Far! Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the best book so far in the series. J.K. Rowling's writing is absolutely amazing. I got completely wrapped up in this book just like the other 4. The Order of the Phoenix is the darkest book yet. All of the characters are older and are facing new challenges such as O.W.L.s and new relationships. The whole plot wasn't too much of a surpise to me like Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire were, but it was still intriguing. My emotions mirrored those of the characters. I even cried at the end. This book was so fast-paced and exciting that it took me less than two days to read it. J.K. Rowling makes magic so believable. The best part of this book was Harry. Unlike in other books where the hero makes no mistakes, and even if they do they always turn out right anyway, J.K Rowling makes her characters so much more believable. Harry makes mistakes and he has to live with the results of them. All the books are great for their suspense and mystery, but The Order of the Phoenix should recieve an O for outstanding on its O.W.L for the emotions that all of the characters (and the reader) go through. Put that together with wonderfully realistic characters, an elaborate and well-written plot, and coy humor throughout, this book is incredible! It is definitely worth reading!
Rating: Summary: Well... Review: Well, I haven't actually read this book as of yet, but my friend tells me I will LOVE it.
Rating: Summary: An Edgier Harry Review: After reading the first four books, I was anxiously awaiting the fifth installment. I was not let down. The book was pretty good. I enjoyed everything about the book except for Harry Potter. He is very stubborn, selfish and downright rude in this book. I thought he was more mature at 11 then he is at 15. Harry was extremely moody, not that I could blame him, he's been through a lot, but where is the Harry from books 1-4? Besides Harry's attitude problem the rest of the cast was great! New villians to hate, new hero's to love. Plus we got more insight into some of the old characters. Mrs. Rowling has such a great imagination, never would I have imagined all the plot twist and turns she put in. If you have not already, read it, you'll get use to Harry's attitude.
Rating: Summary: Was I ever wrong! Review: I was very vocal in my opinion that J.K. Rowling could not maintain the quality of her Harry Potter series. I didn't believe that she could portray a pubescent Harry as effectively as she did in her previous books. Was I ever wrong!Young teen Harry returns to Hogwarts for year 5 after a cloistered summer with his overbearing aunt and uncle. But his return to school is not easy. Harry has a chip on his shoulder typical of many a teenage boy. He starts to have feelings for the opposite sex. He has difficulty controlling his anger. And yet Rowling polishes the book with her usual mastery of suspense, humor and wonderful characters. Anyone who read the previous Harry Potter books will know that the main plotline focuses around Harry's struggles against the Dark Lord, He-who-must-not-be-named. S/he will also know that the plot will have more twists and turns than a rattlesnake. But that is not necessarily what makes this series so readable. Rowling inexpicably, in the most simple and clear English, suffuses her writing with emotion. The anger that Harry feels leaves the reader tense ; the sorrow at the loss of a friend leaves the reader saddened ; the confusion and awkwardness of teen love will ring true for every reader who was ever there. It is this mastery of emotion that makes this series hard to put down and leaves one anxious for the next installment. So it is easy to overlook the fact that this plotline moves a little slower than the previous four books and that plot elements here are not as original as in the earlier works. It's also easier to overlook the fact that this book is nearly 900 pages long. Those weaknesses are easy to overlook because ohh! the flood of feeling and emotion! The love, hate, fear, terror, are all here along with the laughter. This is what reading is about.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter Losing Steam.... Review: I am a huge fan of the Harry Potter series. Books 1-4 I managed to read in a couple of days tops, but book number 5 sadly took nearly a month to read! I had to keep taking breaks from it because it simply was not as captivating as the past novels. I understand the pressure J.K. must have had to write this one but I felt like it was rushed, especially towards the end of the book, which is usually the most important aspect of it. I think she spent way too much time with many not so important issues such as Cho or even Hagrid's half brother, which didn't tie in very well at all. Also, the final scenes with the Dark Lord were so rushed and just unsatisfying, including the death. Harry's temper could be blamed on being a teenager but at some point, J.K. really should have realized how aggravating it is to read after so many pages of it! The thought of having a movie based on this novel is mind numbing and would need quite a bit of tweaking. Don't get me wrong, I still suggest fans to read this book but it is definitely my least favorite of the series.
