Rating: Summary: Harry Potter was not that good Review: I thought this book was kinda bad, compared to the other books in this series. This takes places in Harry's fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Someone is against him going back to school. He gets in a lot of trouble, when he uses magic to protect his cousin. Even Professor Dumbledore, has come under scrutiny by the Ministry of Magic, which refuses to officially acknowledge the terrifying truth that Voldemort is back. Dolores Umbridge, senior undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, who takes over the vacant position of Defense Against Dark Arts teacher, and the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts. She even takes Professor Dumbledore. With an more work load as the fifth years prepare for their Ordinary Wizarding Levels examinations, vivid dreams about long hallways and closed doors, and increasing pain in his lightning-shaped scar, Harry's resilience is sorely tested. The Order of the Phoenix, which is a secert group to take down Lord Volemort. Harry evens go against the new headmaster, starts the T.A. He go on his first date with Cho Chang, which does not turn out that well.
Rating: Summary: By far the best yet of the Harry Potter series Review: This is by far the best yet of the Harry Potter series - Rowling was always able to get a good pace going, but in vol.4 she seemed to be overwhelmed by too much plot and seemed to be losing her way. But this book is now triumphally back on form and it was a pleasure to read - including for a 48 year old academic like me! Christopher Catherwood, author of CHRISTIANS, MUSLIMS AND ISLAMIC RAGE (Zondervan, 2003) - whose courtship with my wife was in the real place in Oxford where they film the Forbidden Library in the films!
Rating: Summary: Good, but definately not the best. Review: First off, Ill admit that I did like this book, although it did seem to go on and on and on in some points. Some major editing could have been done to make this book a lot more enjoyable. There did seem to be a lot of standing around and talking, and Harry definately had an attitude problem in this book. It was like he had male PMS throughout the story, and that made it a lot less enjoyable. J. K. missed a lot on this book, and I think we all agree that it didn't live up at all to its predecessor, book 4. Let's just hope she spends more time on book 6, otherwise Harry might not be the only thing in danger of dying out...
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter, Book 5, Deluxe Edition Review: I couldn't put it down and I managed to read it in 3 days!!! It is very enlightening. Harry is growing up and trying to figure himself out with all this bad stuff happening to him. He is starting to question who he is and where he came from, and who his parents really were. I feel so bad for him after he discovers something about his father toward the end. It makes him question some things and makes him understand why he has been treated in a certain way by someone. And the death at the end was horrible, but the way it happened makes you think that that is not the end. Regarding Harry's darker attitude, you have to consider that he saw someone die at the end of the previous book. I don't know how happy someone can be after that. I didn't think the start was very slow. I was hooked from the beginning and thought the action moved smoothly and that Rowling kept the audience's attention the entire time. Anyway, I highly recommend this book. It is highly enjoyable and well worth the time.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Book!!! Review: Oh my gosh, i love this book! The new characters add so much to the already delectable flaver of the book that i would find myself laughing and crying at the same time. Some people say that it far out does the rest,uh,no!They all have they're own story and idea, but its a real credit the(to my favorite)series. Its an absolute gem and i recomend it to everybody!
Rating: Summary: Lost the Magic Review: I am a great fan of the Harry Potter series and feel that the author is gifted, however, this book was disappointing. It was so slow getting started that I almost stopped reading it several times. The plot seemed to lack originality and purpose. I was expecting someone really important to die like Hermione, Ron, Hagrid or Dumbledore but it was just Sirius. I was not very impressed with Dumbledores confession to Harry. The book was too long and I remained bored throughout.
Rating: Summary: J.K Rowling can do better Review: Although I found Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix pretty good the ending came somewhat as a disappointment.I expected something more thrilling than a ......................what did come at the end. But the book served to raise some more questions and a lot of the old questions were answered. I am particularly curious about the new issues Rowling is raising about Petunia Dursley and even James Potter. And all the stuff we've been hearing about Harry's temper and bad moods is rubbish.. I think he is perfectly justified in shouting whenever he does..he is after all, a teenager, not a saint. Rowling has certainly put together a very enthralling book and is definetely a must-read for all.
Rating: Summary: WICKED AWESOME Review: MAN! This book was aweome. Every last bit was filled with action. Not a single second was I not on the edge of my seat. It's one of those books u have to keep flipping the page you just have to keep going it was amazing. So much suspence and drama. YOU HAVE TO READ IT.
Rating: Summary: Needs some editing Review: It will take some doing for JKR to equal the brilliant Book 3, Prisoner of Azkaban. While this one wasn't bad, it was bloated. Some good editing would have made the story more taut, and with a better flow. I agree with one reviewer who said there was an awful lot of standing around and talking, blah, blah, blah. I don't think there was good inter-character development. And even my 11 and 14 year old sons got extremely annoyed with her constantly using the same characterizations...Luna Lovegood always saying things "vaguely," everyone shuddering and wincing when Voldemort's name is mentioned, etc. There was little of the cleverness and light comic relief she is known for; everyone seemed constantly in a bad mood. I also thought some plot elements were superfluous, such as the Grawp the giant. There could have been more quidditch, too. I was disappointed that she killed off an important character. Still, it's a fast 900-page read so I'm confident she'll find that magic again.
Rating: Summary: Harry's back again Review: How can you not love Harry Potter? I admit, I was a skeptic at first, especially after reading the first book. But since starting the second book, I have quickly finished books 2-5. The fifth book continues Harry's adventures at Hogwarts. He prepares for his OWL's as well as challenging Voldermort yet again. The fifth book is one of my favorites of the collection and is a MUST BUY for any Harry Potter fan. Big thumbs up to this book.
