Summary: read this book now (no spoilers, don't worry)
Review: Let me start by saying I am twenty years old. I've been interested in these books ever since I read the first book with a kid I was babysitting. I waited in line at [a local store] for three hours to get the book last night.
I stayed up all night to finish it. It was the best book in the series thus far. Harry is starting to go through what all teenagers go through. It makes him seem even more real. Things are happening in the book that I never thought would happen. J.K. Rowling has defnitely done her job and then some. Now my only problem is having to wait for the next one.

Summary: The Best Yet?
Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is shaping up to be one of the best installments in the Potter saga yet! The massive page count may seem daunting, but the action starts quickly. Harry is indeed growing with his fans. But, adults will find even more to like in this one, as Harry addresses more adult themes and situations. As with the other titles, Rowling maintains Harry's place as the hero, showing kids and adults alike that good and achievement will always triumph over evil in the end.

Keep 'em coming J.K.!

Summary: An Entertaining Look Into Harry's Future
Review: Granted, Rowling made a great show of it by providing us with Goblet of Fire at 754 words. It was marvelous and while a few people said it could have been cut down to a less voluminous size, i loved it all the more for it's detail. I cannot say the same for Order of the Phoenix.

Order of the Phoenix lives up to its hype in many ways. The beginning starts off as fraught with danger for Harry as any. And he faces some of his greatest fears. All doing this with an new edge to his personality, the angst and anger that comes with adolescence! Imagine those feelings combined with Harry's already irritating habit of blaming himself for everything horrid that happens to him and his friends. It's not a very healthy combination and Rowling weaves Harry's fears throughout the entire book leaving no emotion unscathed.

On top of this Harry has to juggle a monstrous new Defense Against the Dark Arts (who does believe in torture practices that are illegal), Snape giving him private tutoring, Sirius' own angst and bitterness at being an exile in the wizard world, a crush who always cries and mentions another boy's name in his presence and Voldemort's visions dancing in his head. It is quite a bit too juggle! And the wear shows on Harry especially in the end when it leads to a very dear person's death.

You may ask me what do i have to complain about after reading the above. It sounds marvelous to me? Oh all those parts were marvelous. But in the huge novel, i had to listen to Mrs. Weasley complain a little too much about revealing information, watch the cleaning of a house that i really didn't care about the details, tour through the ministry of magic hearing too many adjectives about the beauty of the place, and much, much more that could have been edited.

I applaud Rowling on her development of the characters. They have grown into splendid, mult-faceted individuals to be treasured (especially Neville Longbottom's), but it wouldn't hurt for her to focus a little more on plot and less on detail. In the end, Dumbledore's talk with Harry mimicked a much loved scene in the Chronicles of Narnia's "The White Witch" in which Aslan speaks of an ancient magic with the four main characters. While borrowing from the fantasy kettle has always made me love Rowling's work, in this instance i felt it lacking her original voice so prominent through out the first four.

Overall, this book answered very few questions that mature readers couldn't have surmised on their own. And definitely leaves you wishing there had been a little more revealed. But then that's become Rowling's trademark. Keep readers in the Dark. I have high hopes the last two books will deliver the answers, I just hope they are more concise and less prettily written as Phoenix was.

Review: splended tale, worth a night curled up next to an electric candle.

Summary: Great Book
Review: Rowling has done it again. I enjoyed this book. It was fun reading about Harry becoming into a young adult. I thought Rowling handle the death of a "main" character well. Harry's reaction was geniune and anyone who ever experienced a death will be able to identify with Harry's emotions. Also, the conversation with Dumbledorf in the end is quite a revelation for Harry and the reader. Harry finally learns the prophecy between himself and he who shall not be named. Great read.

Summary: Excellent Book
Review: I really like the way Harry is beginning to mature in the 5th book of the series. Rowling has done it again. She also does a great job with the death of one of the "main characters" and Dumbledorf's revelation to Harry of his prophecy. Looking forward to Book 6.

Summary: Exceeding expectations... for adults
Review: After years of waiting, the 5th book in the Harry potter series has finally been released.
Continuing on from the exciting advantures of the first 4 books, the Order of the Phoenix contains many interesting incidents, but also Harry Potter's first love interest, and revelations about Harry's nemesis, the evil Lord Voldemort.

Many of the questions we have all asked after the last book are now getting answered, are Harry and Voldemort linked more than they realised, and what on earth is Snape doing among the evil Death Eaters again?

However, I cannot lie and say everything about this book is good. Once again, as in many series of books bydifferent authors, as the main character grows older, you yourself must be older to fully understand the book, especially since the love interest will mean little to a reader aged 9 who has never had a girlfriend or boyfriend. The language used is more advanced than ever meaning that younger readers may struggle, and the increased levels of violence and death, while written of in a very lighthearted way, are slightly more disturbing than anything in the first 3 books, continuing the lines of the latter quarter of the 4th book.

I believe Joanne Rowling has finally come to realise that in England, her own country, her adult readers are more common than her child readers, and as a result she is writing to aim more at these older readers - afterall, parents must buy the book for their child, so will inevitably end up reading it themselves, either to their child, or themself.

Whatever the reasons, this book is even more gripping than the first 4 - the development of characters has reached a peak until we can fully understand the emotions and aims of the characters - whatever else can be said about the book, this is a wonderful book.

Summary: Worth the wait -- when's book 6 coming out???
Review: An increadibly fast read, even at 870 pages. Harry is portrayed as a real boy, one with adolescent tendencies of rebellion and anger. This book also fleshes out some of the minor characters while bringing in several new ones. I really appreciated the humor of the tabloid wizard paper! If you liked the first 4, then you should definitely get this one. If you haven't read the first 4, then you should read them so you can get book 5. Rowling's epic fantasy has branched out into new territories, and you wouldn't believe what Hagrid asks Harry and Hermione to do! This book has some very dark and scary moments, but also has some heartwarming moments. I'd stake my O.W.L.'s on it!
