Rating: Summary: What happened Harry? Review: I can honestly say that I spent the majority of this book loathing the actions of one Mr. Harry James Potter. Comepletely out of line, and a horrible role model for kids, that is, if you're looking for a role model for kids. I mean seriously, Draco Malfoy, the 'bad kid', shines bright as an angel compared to Harry. Sure Malfoy may verbally assaults his enemies, but that's as far as he ever takes it! Sorry I can't say the same for our young protagonist.Something else I found lacking in this book was a plot motivation. There were only obscure plot references made through out this book, and it never really started picking up until the final chapters. Once they had revealed the mystery they were trying to solve in the beginning, it took another 500 pages before the story follows up on that lead. Compared to the other books, the final confrontation was spelled out in the title of the book! The book was not a total disaster however. Those 500 pages were highly entertaining and explored many aspects of teenage life. I must admit, this book genuinely got a rise out of me. I would at times stop reading and bash random things to ease my frustrations directed towards certain events. So even with all this hype, I will say that that all you hardcore HP fans are probably still HP fans, I know I am. No matter how lowsy the book was, I think I would have enjoyed it at some level anyhow, just to check if my predictions were correct. For those of you who are not hardcore fans, I suggest you read this book anyway so you cna truely decide for yourself if you really care what happens to Harry anymore.
Rating: Summary: Not enough words in the English language... Review: I picked up my copy at [a local store] at midnight. I came home, and read half of it before I had to pass out to go to sleep. I almost couldn't put it down. I've only just finished it and I had to reread the end again, just to make sure it was really happening. It is by far the best book yet. I laughed, I cried, and I think I nearly had a heart attack a few times. It sucks you in and will never let you go. I just want to read it again and again, and maybe never put it down. Read it, you won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: corri Review: Wonderful book! A great deal darker that the others. It will appeal to older childern and adults more that the previous ones. I was very pleased. Has some suprises that you you will not like. I like the new characters.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Harry's back, but he's not having fun. He's not even at Hogwarts before he's attacked, threatened with expulsion, has his reputation smeared by the Ministry of Magic and the Daily Prophet, and sent off to a secret society that provides no answers to his questions. Hogwarts treats him no better; Hagrid isn't there, Dumbledore barely acknowledges him, and the new defense against the dark arts teacher refuses to provide practical lessons - then proceeds to terrorize the school with her harsh and restrictive rules. Even his budding relationship with Cho Chang runs hot and cold. All this plus Snape's and Malfoy's usual treatment of him pushes him to the breaking point in the fifth book in the series, and Harry spends most of his time frustrated and angry at the forces that are ruining his life. With his usual outlet of Quidditch denied him, his only refuge is leadership of his own secret - and rule-breaking - society of students dedicated to learning to fight the dark arts. Despite the costs, Harry is willing to put it on the line to fight for what he believes in - even if it means a direct confrontation between himself and his friends against Lord Voldermort and his Death Eaters. In the end, victory is his, but this time the price might be higher than Harry is willing to pay... Major secrets regarding the past history between Voldemort and Harry are revealed, as well as a few about the Dursleys. Harry learns many harsh truths in this episode, including the fact that many people he looked up to weren't as perfect as he thought, and others he despises may have some right on their side. In all, worth the wait it took to come out.
Rating: Summary: And the Saga Continues Review: As a secret Harry Potter fan (well over 10 but not yet 35) I could hardly wait for the 5th book to arrive. My comments: - I always felt in the earlier books that more time should be spent in Privet Drive, this book does and the introduction of Dementers at this point was a nice suprise. - Not much interaction with Dumbledore, but all is explained at the end. - Harry seems to be pre-menstrual throughout the book, is there a future suprise that he is really a girl!!! Would explain his dating techniques mid-way through the book.BR>- Loved the cameo by Lockhart. - Not much romance going on between Ron and Hermione, what's going on!!! Nothing it would seem...
Rating: Summary: Less mystery, amazement, and humor... more teenage angst Review: Although I couldn't stop reading, the surprises and revelations are much fewer and far between than the previous books. This one is more about Harry's humanity than the wonder of the wizard world around him.
Rating: Summary: Potter the Great Review: JK Rowling is just like the world she is creating Magical. She did not fail in intriguing us with the 5th installment. Yet this one is darker with death looming in each corner, and that what makes such an adventurous read this one is unpredictable. Look my self I believe this (Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix) is the greatest of them all in other words this is the LORD OF THE POTTERS.
Rating: Summary: Can't wait for Book 6 !!! Review: "The Order of the Phoenix" is super-thick, and the pace is much slower and not as exciting as the first 4 books. Not much surprise element here as the groundwork has already been laid. I can only hope that the magic that is lacking in this book is because this is a launchpad for future events in books 6 & 7. Don't get me wrong! I really like this book for all its plotline and characterization. The trademark Rowling wit and sense of humor is still evident. There is also a lot more focus on Harry's feelings and relationships with the other characters this time around, and some political intrigue. Overall, despite my mixed feelings, I can't wait to read Book 6. Great job, Ms. Rowling : )
Rating: Summary: MAGICAL AS ALWAYS - OR IS IT? Review: The fourth book was rich and varied, and disturbing too. This book, well, I find it darker still. In my opinion, J K Rowling has forever changed the face of children's storywriting, as her books represent the paradigm shift in the field from the era of fairy tales. The first thing you notice about the book is its thickness, and I bet that reading it to children will be a cumbersome task. I wonder if any body ever does that anymore. Being an adult myself, I enjoyed the book thoroughly but at the same time could not help thinking that Potter is no longer the invincible hero but more of a hapless pawn caught in the workings of a much bigger machine. He is vulnerable to forces outside as well as inside, and I think that nothing better captures the spirit of teen angst. I also am no longer impressed by Harry's cronies or his benefactors at Hogwarts, who seem to grow weaker by every successive year. And I think that this is the best part: slowly and surely Harry is growing up and his encounters reflect the bitterness of our real world as opposed to the fantasy getaways usually thought to be fit for children. Which brings to my question: should we really continue to believe that this is a children's book series? Quite frankly, the detail and the variation I find in these books far surpasses works of many so-called popular authors today. Therefore, this book is an unqualified classic, no strings attached.
Rating: Summary: J.K. Rowling Pulls It Off Beautifully! Review: First of all, I'm an avid HP fan and in all honestly, I had some serious doubts about whether or not this book could possibly live up to the creative imagination of the first four. I needn't have worried--I couldn't put it down. It's a long one, nearly 900 pages, but she writes so vividly, the pages simply fly by as she literally paints Harry's 5th year for the reader. Throughout both this book and whole Harry Potter series, Rowlings' gracefully maintains the feel, style, color, and attitude that were so delightful in the first as she lets us, the readers, a little further into her world. In light of the goings on in the wizard world, this installment is significantly more intense than the first four, with Harry and gang dealing with more adult situations: hormones, anger, jealousy, the whole bit, (hey, they're fifteen, what do you expect?) and I thoroughly enjoyed watching them grow throughout their 5th year. I hope others enjoy this book as much as I have.
