Rating: Summary: Harry's growing up and life is not getting easier Review: I won't bother with the plot, that is addressed in the formal reviews. I am fascinated with the development of the characters and the story line throughout this series. Too bad it is such a time-consuming task to re-read all of the Potter books before starting this one. Watching and experiencing Harry's trasition from childhood to adulthood is wonderful. Now that we have all become accustomed to the world of wizardry, it is important that we have strong characters and a fascinating storyline to follow. I did get annoyed with a few of the temper tantrums in the book, but kept reminding myself that Harry and co. are teenagers and should be moody, disagreeable, stubborn, and confused. Harry has gained quite a few new friends in this book, wizards and students we have never met come forward to lead the reader into a greater understanding of the non-Muggle community. Harry, Ron, Hermione and even Neville are beinning to show signs of mastering magical skills which allows Ms. Rowling to move away from having to explain spells and hexes and just accept them as part of being a wizard/witch. This makes for an especially thrilling "battle" between young and old wizards... somewhere in the book! The plot is, as usual, convuluted, surprising, unnerving and exciting. I will be anxiously awaiting the next book to see how Harry deals with disturbing information he learns in the Order of The Phoenix. Most importantly, I had fun reading this book--enjoy it!
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter V: The Best of the Young Wizard's Saga Review: Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix (OOP) is undoubtedly the best of the seven-part series. This book serves as a credible bridge to the last book's cliffhanger and feels like a reunion with old friends, re-introducing favorite characters such as Ron, Hermione, Lupin and Sirius. The Order of the Phoenix is a cult, led by Dumbledore. Its main goal is to protect the Wizarding Society from Lord Voldemort and his servants--- while the Ministry of Magic is in its darkest hour. "The Daily Prophet" attempts to discredit Harry and Dumbledore by publishing stories that are not true. In this book, outbursts are common for Harry, who is afflicted by stress and depression. At one point, he even considers suicide. OOP portrays Harry as a more violent and vindictive character than we have previously known. I couldn't put it down! Every chapter made me want to continue reading more. The book is incredibly funny and intense. It constantly takes twists and turns that amaze the reader. J.K. Rowling did a superb job in all the books, but this one deserves to be specially commended. The illustrator, too, deserves praise for the detailed and hilarious graphics that introduce each chapter. Although I was upset when my favorite character died in combat, I know that he is gone but not forgotten and that anything is possible in a world of wizardry. I read this book straight through, stopping only to sleep. No doubt you will too!
Rating: Summary: Rowling Hasn't Lost Her Touch Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix begins with Harry at his aunt and uncles' house, desperate for news of Lord Voldemort's activities. However, news of Voldemort is scarce as the majority of the wizarding world denies his return to power. Even at Hogwarts, things aren't much better for Harry due to a ministry appointed defense against the dark arts teacher who is intent on stripping the students of all their rights. Order of the Phoenix is darker and more politically oriented than the other books in the series, and contains the death of a major character. Order of the Phoenix, acting as a bridge between the rising action of books one through four and the climax of the series, doesn't have a plot that is as clearly defined as those of the previous four books and has a rather slow beginning but nevertheless is a very compelling read, and well worth the long wait.
Rating: Summary: Simply Magical Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix takes quite a different direction than the previous 4 novels by heralded J.K Rowling. Harry is older this time around, and seems to have the same growing pains that we all do as teenagers. This is a wonderful book with all the same mystery and suspence I would come to expect from a novel by the author. But why three long years for this particular flight into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry? Alas, this book is a excellent read for anyone young and old. Great book indeed. Razorfish
Rating: Summary: Awesome follow-up, can't wait until the next installment Review: Well, here it goes. After years of waiting, abandoning sleep, and snapping at every person who has dared to suggest that I go out and do something with them: I've just finished the Order of Phoenix. It was well worth the wait. I don't want to spoil any plot lines, but I will say that it's not what I expected, it was much better. It's the best of the series. While Reading Goblet of Fire the first time, I found myself flipping the pages waiting for the good parts, I didn't do that with Order of Phoenix, I read ever word, becuase the plot was much better and made the read much faster. My favorite parts of the book -I liked the fact that Harry, Ron, Heroime's friends get much more page time and we get to see more of their friend's personality. -I really, really, really liked the well Neville came into himself during this book, which I think will lead to great things involing Neville in future books. -The death was unexpected. -I liked how envolved a person Harry has become, he is no longer sitting around letting things happen to him, he's becoming much more real. I know this review is lame, but I just don't want to reveal to much of the plot. Just hurry up and buy it so that you can see how wonderful a book it is.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! (No Plot Spoiling) Review: I just finished the book (I couldn't put it down!) and I can only say the Mrs. Rowling has done it again. Reading all the other Harry Potter books felt like an escape to childhood and this book was no different. As you read you are easily transported to the wizards world and all of its fascinating mysteries and suprises. Do yourself a favor and read this and all the other Harry Potter books. These are books for the young and the young at heart.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Review Review: This adventure is the darkest to come out of the thrilling series based on the wizard. I would also say it is the 2nd best right behind the second book. I also like the fact that it shows that Harry is growing up and becoming an adult. Buy it if you dont take my word for it!
Rating: Summary: I know it will be good!!!! Review: I have not completely finished this book yet, but so far, it is awesome!!!! Even in the very beginning, it completely captures your interest. I've read all the other books and of course, loved them! I know that this will be one of the best!
Rating: Summary: Not Just for Children Anymore Review: Despite the fact that the Harry Potter series has commonly been regarded as children's series, the fifth installment of Harry's adventures at Hogwarts may be too dark for many of its younger readers. I loved this book. It was deep and dark and rich with details. Harry is a teenager, and it shows. The characters are all entirely human, with all the good things, and the awful ones, too, that go along with that. If you're looking for a light-hearted romp with some hints of evil, this is not the book for you. If you're looking to see a bunch of people fumbling their way through trying to save the world, and meeting hardship at every turn, by all means, read this book. As Harry grows up, so too must his fans. Many of the younger readers may not be able to grasp all of the issues flying around as Harry matures. There are times... lots of times... where it hurts to read this book... and I'm in my 20s. Consider yourself forewarned. If any author deserves the level of fame that J.K. Rowling has achieved with these books, she does. I have never read a more complex book that pulled me in and held me as tightly as this series does. Bravo. The only problem I can see with this book, really, is the fact that it leaves the readers, once again, to wait impatiently for the next installment. :)
Rating: Summary: It was a long wait, but it was worth it Review: The book arrived and I stayed up all night reading it and I wasn't disappointed. The writing in this book is even richer and more developed than earlier books. The characters continue to grow and old friends and skills reappear in this book. And while many questions from the last 4 books are answered, new questions and relationships develop. This book is even darker than the last one and parents may need to consider how appropriate it is for younger potterphiles. As reported in the press, a well-loved character dies and new quirky witches and wizards are introduced. Ms. Rowling, please don't make us wait as long for installment #6!
