Rating: Summary: In need of a firm editor Review: As a big fan of the previous Potter books, I was disappointed by the latest installment. Somehwere inside The Order of the Phoenix is a decent addition to the series, but the trouble is, it's hidden away under pages and pages of dense and dreary drivel. The first third of the book could be binned without any loss, and there is a vast swathe in the middle that could also go. As for the new "grown up" Harry, well....not JK's strong point, writing about teenagers' love lives and tantrums. And rather pointless - we want a fast-moving, funny, action-packed ans surprising tale of a young wizard, not a dull story of Harry's first crush. I only hope that the next one is shorter and back to the point.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter Review: Harry potter was a great book to read. This book is alot like the others, but J.K. Rowling knows how to make it better. This is very suspensful and brings you into the life of Harry Potter. I would reccomend this to Harry Potter fans, anyone who likes fantasy books. All the books start out slow but in the end it goes fast. This is about how Harry's life is at school the way people don't like him and think he is a liar about Voldermont coming back. Will he hold through and show that he was right or will he do something stupid?
Rating: Summary: Oh come on.... Review: Out of the 5 Harry Potter books written so far, I definitely wouldn't say #5 is the best; personally, I feel The Goblet of Fire is the best. This is because it's the first book JK Rowling wrote that actually was descriptive and up to my reading level, at the time. The Order of the Phoenix, however, was a great disappointment compared to The Goblet of Fire. Though it was descriptive, it lacked a good plot. There was no point for the author to kill off Sirius Black -- the character had not yet been developed to his full potential. We had not yet had the opportunity to feel for the loss of the character as much as we could have if it had been one of Harry's friends who had died. It was also a sad thing that JK Rowling did with Harry & Cho Chang. The author never developed Cho's character enough for us to care if Harry ended up dating her or not. I still give the book a fair rating -- it was a good book except for those plot problems. I hope Book #6 is an improvement !
Rating: Summary: Untitled Review: Just to let you know, I am one of "those kids" who tried to read this book in one sitting. I was sucsessful, and I did NOT get a headacke. Probally had something to do with going to camp the next day and i didn't want to have to carry the weight of this book in my suitcase :). Of coarse it was so good i took it with me to re-read it. To all those people who are compareing Harry Potter to The Lord of the Rings, I think you are being idiots. Harry Potter is not anything like the Lord of the Rings; yes the Lord of the Rings are excellent. I have read them and looked foward to them comeing out as movies as much as any fan. But, going on a quest and going to school are two completely different things, and really you shouldent compare the two. The book is not too long. I read it in 13 hours, and felt it was TOO Short. (I won't be a hypocryte and compare this book to the Lord of the Rings, which was all originaly going to be one book that was 1037 pages). While I'm complaining, I want to know how somebody can find this book boring. I read it for 13 hours straght, and at 3:50 in the morning, had to go right back to the beginning and read my favorite parts over again. This book was heavier in the sense of it being depressing. Yes, Harry is haveing mood-swings. Wouldn't you if a maniac who was trying to kill you has risen from a warped existence back to a human-wizard form?
Rating: Summary: The Best Book Ever In the Entire World!!!!!!!!!! Review: These books are absolutely genius! Before I read Harry Potter, I could barely read. (I was little) But after I read them, I had excellent reading skills and a vocabulary as large as Hagrid! (Hagrid is a charecter in the books incase you haven't read them yet) I used to hate reading, writing, and Harry Potter, but my Mother made me get and read them. Good thing because after I read them, I was obsessed with Harry Potter! I still am! I even now want to become an author, all thanks to J.K. Rowling and her marvelous books! I am sort of known as a book lover now, and also known as the HARRY POTTER CRAZY GIRL. My mother loves them too and we love to read the books together, although I always finish them about 20,000 years before she does. My favorite book is the 5th one, The Order of the Pheonix. I cried when I read that one. So did my mom. My mom almost was scared to read it because she knew someone was going to die again and she was scared of who it would be. I never imagined it would be HIM for those of you who are reading it but don't know who dies. Some people complain about the words and the books being to hard to read and understand, but I think it helps you learn. When I read the first book I was in 1st grade. Now I'm in 5th grade and still read the books. It's very clever that J.K.Rowling conects the books together a little. Like for example, you have so many questions after you read the first book, but when you read the 2nd one next, it anwsers your questions! Like an example of that would be why does Harry Potter feel you know who's emotions? In the 5th book that is anwsered by Dumbledoore, the Headmaster at Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardy. The books are scary, funny, silly, serious, sad, depressing, enraging, inspiring, addictive, and mysterious. They can make you feel so many different emmotions at once. Some of the lines just touch your heart in good ways or bad. one may be, "Who knows, it might even be painless. I would not know, I have never died..." these words were uttered by Tom Riddle/The Dark Lord/HeWhoMustNotBeNamed/You Know Who/Voldemort/Lord Voldemort. I have friends who read the first chapter of book one and then said, "I didn't like the first chapter. Why should the rest of the book be any different?" well it is. You've read the first book and didn't like it? Yah sure why should the other books be any different? WRONG!!!!!!!!! SO WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!! THIS IS NOT TRUE. When J.K. Rowling was jst starting out when she wrote that book. I loved it, but most people I knnow love the latest one best of all, like me and my mom. Give them a chance and you will love them. I should know, and I do. Also, do not skip ahead in the books. Go in order, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. Like that! Not the other way arround! That will not help to anwser any of your questions! I hope I have been able to help in in some way. Also I hope that you will always remember me, the CRAZY HARRY POTTER GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: The best of them all so far! Review: This fifth entry in Rowling's Harry Potter series is the strongest and darkest of the five books so far. Harry Potter returns for his fifth year at Hogwarts and finds himself increasingly dodgy in personality due to hormones taking over him. Voldemort, now with a new body, is reutrning to power and his loyal followers, The Death Eaters, are regrouping to terrorize and take over the wizarding world, and Harry Potter is finding himself increasingly in pain from his scar burning. Meanwhile, Hogwarts is under authoritarian control from Ministry of Magic officials who aim to discredit Dumbledore and Harry Potter who are trying to warn the public about Voldemort's return to power and send in an extremely evil woman Dolores Umbridge to enforce the MInistry's power on Hogwarts. This book is very powerful and sometimes anger inducing but it's really a very rewarding read and one to understand what real life agencies do to try to discredit others through lies and denying the truth about events. Harry Potter fans should BY ALL MEANS, read this novel. Rowling has once again brought forth another successful novel.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix By: J.K Rowling Reviewed by: R. Kim Period: P1 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a really great book. This book is about Harry getting a lot of nightmares about Lord Voldemort. He sees all the thoughts of Voldemort, all the hideous stuff he does, and he feels Voldemort¡¯s expression like if he¡¯s happy or not. Harry sees and feels all that from the scar on his forehead. Like one time, Harry saw Ron¡¯s dad getting attacked by Lord Voldemort. Luckily Harry saw that vision because Ron¡¯s father was able to heal and live. Harry tells the head master of Hogwarts, Dumbledore about his vision so the head master tells Harry to take occlumency lessons from professor Snape. He takes that lesson to make his mind strong and to block Voldemort¡¯s feelings and visions. Harry got into trouble again by professor Snape because he saw one of professor Snape's worst memory in a bowl, which made professor Snape really angry. This caused the professor to cancel the occlumency lessons. Also, Harry has a new Defense Against the Dark Art teacher named Professor Umbridge. She refuses to let the students use wands in her class so Harry decides to start a club. This club was called Dumbledore¡¯s Army. In this club, Harry taught other students spells that would help the other students in battles. Then, to top it all off, Harry had a vision that his god father Sirius Black was attacked by Voldemort. Harry, Ron, Hermoine, Neville, Ginny, and Luna go to save Sirius. They get in a battle and they defeat the Death Eaters with the help of the Order of the Phoenix. Earlier in the book, Dumbledore had to run away from his school because he was going to get taken into Azkaban. Well, in the fight against the Death Eaters, Lord Voldemort comes to fight Harry. Then, Dumbledore came and defeated Voldemort, so Voldemort fled away with the remaining Death Eaters. During the battle, Sirius gets killed and Harry gets really angry. At the end, Dumbledore comes back to Hogwarts and Professor Umbridge runs away. Harry learns to deal with Sirius¡¯ death and Harry went back home to wait for his O.W.L results. I liked this book a lot because it had a lot of action in it as well as the other Harry Potter books. This book was my favorite because Harry gets into so much mischief. He nearly gets expelled and killed, and he had about twelve detentions. The action part was when Harry, Neville, Ron, Hermoine, Ginny, and Luna go to save Sirius. Everybody except Harry and Neville got hit with a spell. They fought off most of the Death Eaters but more came so The Order of the Phoenix comes and helped Harry and Neville. I also sort of disliked this book because Harry had no sense of romance. See, he went on a date with the most popular girl on Valentine's Day. They went to this coffee house and ordered some coffee. While drinking the coffee, Cho (the girl) asked Harry about Cedric¡¯s death (Cedric was her last boyfriend). Harry, responded,¡± Can we talk about something else?¡± Cho, so badly hurt said, ¡°Fine, have a nice day!¡± Cho then ran outside weeping in the rain. My favorite part of the book is the fight. Harry, Neville, Ron, Hermoine, Ginny, and Luna go try to save Sirius. They go in this room in the Ministry of Mysteries and find the Death Eaters. They go and fight using stunning spells and protecting spells. At the end, Harry and Neville were the only ones left. It looked hopeless when The Order of the Phoenix came and defeated the rest of the Death Eaters. During the battle, Voldemort comes and tries to kill Harry. Then, Dumbledore came and defeated Voldemort. Voldemort fled with rest of the Death Eaters that could still move. Also during the battle, Sirius died against a Death Eater. Harry had a lot of rage at the end of the battle.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix-My Review Review: I thought this was the best book yet. J.K.'s latest masterpiece really left me on my toes(not literally). I thought it was a little slow at the biginning, but really picked up speed as I progressed. If you're to bored w/ other books, pick this one up. You won't regret it.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter Channeling James Dean Review: Anyone who thinks this book is about magic and wizards, has not read it. Certainly this is the backdrop for the story. The real story is about a typical teenager who is feeling enormous resentment and adult authority along with all the rough parts of growing up: the first kiss, dating, choosing a career. Toss in "teachers that hate me," incompetent teachers, and general teen agnst and you have a truly great story. It took a second reading to realize just what a great job the author did in portraying the roughest times any young person can have. Thow in loss of loved ones, and the realization that one's heros are far from perfect and you have a first rate story. Rowling has truly developed some wonderful characters in this story, especially Dolores Umbridge, the new defense against the dark arts teacher. Do not miss this and don't let the length discourage you. The more you read the better it gets.
Rating: Summary: Quantity is not quality. Review: Long and, at times, boring, a lot of fluff making it a tedious read. Quantity is not quality.
