Rating: Summary: "HELPFUL Harry Potter Yr/book 5 Review" Review: I've just finished reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Don't worry, I won't give away any spoilers :)First, J. K. Rowling wrote this book with Hollywood in mind. The last 3rd of this book is very action-packed. Much more than the last 4 books. Second, reading this book will provide you with a greater understanding/explanation of between his Harry's parents (and Harry's) connection with Voldemort. It also touches upon Dumbledore's feelings about Harry. Third, the action scenes are written with Hollywood in mind. You will be very impressed with the last 3rd of the book. Fourth, The book was too long and could have been slimmed down 5 25-50 plus pages. However, those pages were still a pleaure to read. Firth, I liked the comic relief in the book surrounding the Weasly twins. Also, the scenes between Harry and Cho were well written. Rowling continues to age the kids properly in the book. They are acting like "typical" teenagers now (emotions, know it all attitudes, ungratefulness :), etc... In summary, the book might be darker and longer than the prev. 4 books but I highly recommended it and I believe it will be the best Potter movie to date when it's made.
Rating: Summary: fantasmagraffic! Review: INCREDIBLE! You will NEVER forget the magic of Harry Potter! Phastasmagraphic!
Rating: Summary: Harry's back, and, boy, is he ticked off!! Review: Harry Potter is one frustrated young man. He's stuck at the Dursely's for the summer once again, while things are going on elsewhere concerning him and his battle against Voldemort that he knows nothing about. Then, when he has to use magic to save himself and Dudley from a group of Dementors that have invaded his peaceful nieghborhood, he becomes in danger of expulsion from Hogwart's since, of course, using magic outside the school is a no-no. Of course, we know he won't be expelled because then there wouldn't be a book, right? Well, there is a book, of course, and what a book it is! J.K. Rowling has done it again. She even introduces a new villain. If you despised Professor Snape, wait until you get a load of new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Dolores Umbridge. She makes Snape look like a pussycat (not literally!). She is the primary weapon in a hostile takeover of the school by the Ministry of Magic. Meanwhile, Harry is ridiculed in the "Daily Prophet" because he claims Voldemort has returned, and his classmates seem divided on just how to regard him anymore. Even worse, he's being tormented in his sleep by dreams that turn out to be more than mere nightmares. This is one big book, so there's a lot going on: Ron joins the Quidditch team, Hagrid returns to the school late with a "surprise", Hermione takes up knitting caps for house-elves, and Harry finds himself to be awkward when it comes to male-female relationships. Plus, someone close to him dies in the usual climactic showdown, and it may be Harry's fault. There is also a prophecy concerning Harry and Voldemort which really comes as no big surprise. All this means is...I'm ready for Book 6 NOW! Don't make me wait three years, J.K., please!!
Rating: Summary: This was an awesome book, but it started a bit slowly... Review: This was a really good book. I read it in just over three hours (I read fast), and the 870 pages were no hindrance at all. But I found that all the action and plot seems to take place in the three last chapters! The rest of the book, though enjoyable, is repetitive and plotless. Umbridge's cruelty, endless school decrees and that dream he keeps having are the only events. I loved Fred and George, and I liked the way Ginny's grown up and can talk to Harry, and how Ron is no longer completely invisible next to Harry. I liked the way Dumbledore explains everything to Harry, and how Harry is finally portrayed as HUMAN and not some noble figure who can deal with everything and still live a relatively normal life. In this book Harry's understandably angrier, and it makes the book more credible. I think this was an excellent book, though it definetly could have been shorter. It seemed as if Rowling was getting paid per page...
Rating: Summary: The Best Book In the Series! Review: Wow. I laughed and cried. By far the best book in the series. I just wish my favorite character would have survived. How long must I wait for Book 6?
Rating: Summary: Disappointed Review: Well, I do wish I can say it was great, but it wasn't. Must have been one of the worst books in the Harry Potter Series. J. K. Rowling still delivers a great show of wizardry wonders as witty as ever, but the plot was too weak. The plot was unlogical and sometimes absurd and contradicting. The twists were foreseeable. It just couldn't give me the sense of excitement the prior books gave me. Of course, buy it, read it, but don't get your expectations too high.
Rating: Summary: I miss the fantasy & larger than life heroes Review: This book is more interesting in terms of characters - but I miss the uncomplicated heroics of the earlier books. I guess I don't want Harry to grow up, to see that he has flaws, to see that Harry's heroes have flaws too. I guess I don't read these books for their unflinching examination of humanity - I read them as an escape from that.
Rating: Summary: Worth the wait Review: What a book! I just finished it last night and I am still feeling very emotional about it this morning. This book certainly brought me through just about every emotion I had - side-splitting laughter, pity, seething anger, excitement, anxiety, elation, and sobbing tearful sorrow. BIG TEARS. The only bad thing was that there were too many undeveloped subplots which detracted from the main storyline. (Mirror?) But it was wonderful overall. The Weasly twins are awesome! Umbridge is delightfully terrible. (I can say that now that it is over - I wanted to rip her throat out while I was reading!) Harry is very angry throughout the book, which is annoying at times but understandable considering his age and what he is going through. I can't say that I like it the best because of the ending, but I can say that it was awesome! Please don't make us wait this long for 6!!
Rating: Summary: Rowling shows she is the real hero Review: After reading the latest HP book, and reading several of the reviews, I can safely say that those who rated this book low must have difficulty reading, and should probably stick to comic books. We have been waiting for three years for this latest installment, and my only regret in finishing, is that now I have to wait three, possibly four, more years for book 6. Rowling has taken risks that many lesser writers would not have done with such beloved characters - from Harry, Ron and Hermione to Dumbledore, and the Dursleys. As fantastic as this book is, Harry's emotions were real, and I would challenge any teenager to deny being able to relate on some level with how he was feeling. The parallels to our world - real world - are astounding, and the levels and layers into which Rowling weaves these components to her stories is incredible. When "Catcher in the Rye" was first published so many years ago, it was controversial; most readers read it out of curiosity, and it wasn't until much later that it was given the title of a "classic", and welcomed into the great body of literature. Rowlings stories and characters will stand the test of time, and become classics not because of the huge commercial success she has garnered, but because when all is said and done, it is just plain good writing, challenging us with character and plot nuances that make each book incredibly engaging. As to the length, well, I just hope books 6 & 7 are just as long. I savor each and every detail.
Rating: Summary: dark, mature Review: Though not the best in the series,(I vote Goblet Of Fire the best) I was hooked right from page one. And I came in for a few surprises and shocks. Harry is not the same old Harry. He has become a moody teenager full of self-doubt. Lots of new characters have been introduced. Tonks (whom I loved), Umbridge(repulsive as a toad), Luna Lovegood(intriguing). You meet some characters from earlier series, Lupin, Mad Eye Moody... As a whole it was a bit depressing ..., with Harry going through a bad time, but very engrossing. And the Weasley twins are up to their usual tricks which make you chuckle out loud. Lots of things have been left unsaid, unexplained for the next series. Great work, JKR.
