Rating: Summary: a turning point in the series Review: This book really demonstrates a fantastic feat of writing by Rowlings - each book seems to be written for an audience the same age as Harry is in the book. The first one was perfect for 11 year olds, and this one is definitely a teenager's book. Harry is taking more control over his life, asking more questions and being more critical. He got a lot of answers in this book, to questions we have been asking since book one, so in some ways there isn't as much to wonder about as there was when I finished the last book. But, this one left us ready for a real showdown in the next two books - the fate of the world.
Rating: Summary: Harry rides again! Review: Harry's latest adventure takes him to darker places than he's been to previously, but as one grows up, going to darker places is a necessary fact of life and the Potter series is a terrific vehicle for teaching children how to cope with the new directions they may face in life.So why only 4 stars? Well, where's an editor when you need one? An 870 page tome, Order of the Phoenix could have used a more little editing, and probably would have been less than the length of Goblet of Fire (Rowling's 4th book in the series). It would have made it a quicker read without taking any of the darkness or importance away from the subject or tone. Ranked in order of what I consider to be the best to the "worst" (if you can call any of Rowling's books "worst") I would put 1. Goblet of Fire, 2. Prisoner of Azkaban, 3. Order of the Phoenix, 4. Chamber of Secrets, and 5. Philosopher's Stone (Sorcerer's Stone - US). Anyone who loves the series will get immense pleasure from Order of the Phoenix, I recommend it to anyone with an imagination and a love good books!
Rating: Summary: It was worth the wait Review: I really liked reading this book with my Child who also wrote a 5 star review We really liked it. It was worth the wait but I hope JK Speeds up though
Rating: Summary: Sadly disappointed Review: Having read the first four books two years ago I have been anticipating this book for a couple of years now and I was completely unimpressed. The book had a lot of great things going on, but was still completely disappointing. J.K. Rawling sometimes wrote about Harry as though she didn't even know him and the ending was not nearly as climatic as it should have been. Although I love the Harry Potter series, this book was a major let-down. I doubt that it will stop me from reading the next book but hopefully there will be an improvement. For the next book, I hope she spends less time on marketing and more time improving the content of the book.
Rating: Summary: Great addition to the series (no spoilers) Review: I anxiously awaited this book release, along with everyone else, and it was well worth the wait. I couldn't put it down, especially after I got to the halfway mark. Rowling outdid herself with this book. Although it did start a little slow, it picked up quickly and kept my interest. It was great to see Harry growing into a teenager, the feelings that go along with that - from anger and frustration about changes at Hogwarts, to the butterflies in his stomach when he sees the girl he likes. I thought the climax scene towards the end was written a little haphazardly, but was good nonetheless. Harry is faced with losing someone close to him, and I felt his emotions during this part. But it is a part of growing up. When Harry learns what Dumbledore should have told him 5 years ago, things finally seem to make some sense to him, and the reader. Of course, this whole book is just a set up for book #6, which I am now anxiously awaiting!
Rating: Summary: Not worth 3 years Review: For the long 3 years of waiting for the fifth book, i expected something absolutly fantastic, this wasen't it. While yes it was good, and better then the fourth, it was not worth waiting 3 years for. Hopefully we won't have to wait to long to read the following 2 books, and maybe even an eighth book telling you what happens to harry after hogwarts. oh well we will have to see and it will probably take many more years to find out what happen to the famous Harry Potter
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter Maniac Review: I have been reading the Harry Potter series since I was eight years old. I soon learned to love the series and grew into a more active reader, thinker, and kid, all thanks to J.K. Rowling's unique and imaginative world. After I completed Sorcerer's Stone I fell in love once again with Harry in the second installment of his series: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. The fifth book surpassed any of my expectations. The characters are all amazingly witty and speak with such emotion, that as you read you feel like you can go to Hogwarts and meet Severus Snape, Delores Umbridge, or even Albus Dumbledore! This book has it all: action, mystery, friendship, and even a little romance between Harry and Cho Chang. J.K. Rowling has brought her world to life once more, and I can only hope Green Flame Torch is out soon!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: Wow, what a great book! I have read all of the HP books and this is by far the best. This is one of those books you just can't put down. The language in this book is a little more difficult than the previous 4, but there is so much action it just keeps moving. As a teacher, I would say the reading level of this book is about 6th grade. It is definitely not as scary and bloody as the 4th book. Younger students could read it but may have difficulty with some vocabulary. I hope JK does not wait 2 years for the next book...I might go crazy. John Kashka
Rating: Summary: Another outstanding Harry Potter Book draws Fans Review: Okay, so I admit it. At 14, im a huge fan of Harry Potter. I love this series, and when i got the fifth book, i was anxious to read it. I admit it, i am a little disappointed at the outcome. What acutally happened in the book wasnt what i wanted to happen, but i loved it anyways. This is a great book for any ages, and yes, i am in love with this series.
Rating: Summary: Darkness and Dread Review: The fifth book in the Harry Potter series has the darkest cover yet - which is quite an insight into the content. Yes, this is the darkest book yet, there is more of every emotion in this book than in any of the others. In this book you truly feel Harry's pain, fear, anger, frustration - everything. Ms. Rowling has outdone herself with this. This book left me with so many different emotions, it felt as though I was a part of the story myself. It felt as though these people had truly touched my life and I hope that others have felt the same as me. I can't wait to read the next book to have some of my questions answered still left from this book. Some of the content does seem unnecessary and dull, but overall this book is a rollercoaster of emotions and I highly recommend it to everyone - adults as well as children at least 9 years old.
