Rating: Summary: This is another amazing Harry Potter book! Review: This book is just as good, if not better, than the previous ones. This book is a lot darker than any of the others, but still is very good. This book starts off quick and doesn't really stop any time soon. I zoomed through the 870 pages in less than a week. It was so good I could not put it down and I'm going to read it again and again just like the other four Harry Potter books. This book is when Harry starts to become a teen and he gets angry all the time and feels like everyone is against him. AH, those good old teen years! Anyways, he goes back to Hogwarts and has the most evil, snotty, and rude Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher anyone could ask for. Her name is Professor Umbridge and man, did I not like her. She made Professor Snape look like a good old nice guy that loved Harry to death. Now Harry has to deal with Professor Umbridge as well as the girl problems and all the other porblems going on in the wizarding world. He also has O.W.L's to deal with too! This is Harry's hardest and most tough year, but all and all he gets through it, even if he might have felt like giving up. I love this book and I'm so glad, as a teen myself, that I can relate to Harry in his troubled times. This is a classic book and I can't wait for the next two books that will finalize the series. I just hope they won't take as long as this one did to come out (It took three stinking years for this one)! This book was worth the wait though. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix ROCKS!Sincerly, Tyler Whipple
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter, Book 5... They just keep getting better! Review: As the title for this review says, the books do just keep getting better. This one is full of surprises and humor. To start off,I'm not going to spoil much, the Order of the Phoenix is a group of people used to defend against He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named. Like the other books, Harry is tortured by the Dursleys all summer long. Harry and Cho's relationship (if that's what you'd call it) gets more intense. Harry's friends are the victim of Harry's bottled up rage. He feels it's unfair for people to make fun of him and to call him a liar when he is the one who has fought against Voldemort, time and time again. You get to meet Neville's parents in this volume of the Harry Potter saga. One of Harry's friends get up enough courage to say Voldemort's name. One of the main characters in this book are killed (It's not any of the students or teachers). Some coincidences... or are they?: The number "12" is used significantly throughout the books. Trelawney says Harry is to grow up to be Minister of Magic and to have 12 children. There are 12 candles on the cover of the book. More references of the number 12 are made throughout the book. All in all, I'd really give this book the highest score possible and then some. For the score that's aloud, 5/5.
Rating: Summary: Order of the Phoenix Review: It was no Prisoner of Azkaban. OotP definitely got darker, more emotional, and longer. There were times in the book where I had read several chapters, but it seemed nothing had happened. Parts dragged. BUT, for the most part, the characters are cleverly portrayed (and kept true, despite aging), the story moves and twists, and it leaves you waiting for more.
Rating: Summary: Very insightful and a great read Review: I am 15 and I find the Harry Potter series very good. I have to strongly disagree with the 12 year old reviewer who gave it a one, how does it disrespect the government or your parents. It does not indirectly or directly say that at all. It teaches that we should be united, like the US stands for. And the people in the book respect thier parents very much, Weaslys for example, your comment is totally irrevelant to the series. I find your comment totally ignorant, you don't want to see the positive outcomes from this series, such as getting young people to read and respect eachother as fans. Your comment is ignorant and I hope you take the books for what they are, fantastic.
Rating: Summary: Not a total escape from reality Review: Harry Potter has given millions of children, and adults, an escape from this world into a wonderful, magical place. Books one through four were enjoyable in that even though Harry had hard times (to say the least) there was always a ray of hope. J.K. Rowling seems to have dashed that ray of hope in book five. The reader is left full of regret and deeply saddened. Some people may not even want to continue the series after reading "The Order of the Phoenix". If we want reality we'll stick to the local Daily Gazette instead of the Daily Prophet. Our only hope is that J.K. Rowling will "make it right" in the sixth and seventh books. If we choose to continue reading the series, that is.
Rating: Summary: The Most Soul of the Series Review: This is true literature - it deals with real-life issues, events and feelings - it deals with the soul. I have great respect for the author because SHE has great respect for us. She won't thin it out or water it down - Harry Potter V is more real and more human than the other books - by far. HP V is not as entertaining (although still a fine read) - but in 10 years, when I reach for the shelf, I might take this one first. In short, the author has created this great vehicle, and now she is really taking it somewhere, not just driving around in circles enjoying the view.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter overly angry Review: I was really angry reading this book. I know it was a coming of age story but, Harry was always raging, sullen and blaming everyone else for his outlandish mistakes. In the real world Ron and Hermione would have told him..., Well they wouldn't have been so endearing. Harry was a complete jerk just like the father he saw that he did not like. I was so angry with his blaming Snape even after he knew about his attempt to help. The converation with Dumbledore, WOW!!! I almost couldn't finish the book. I have been around kids coming of age and they still have the ability to be sensitive to others and take responsibility for their actions. I believe Ms. Rowlings was angry with someone whem she wrote this book so she transferred all of her anger into Harry's character. I hope in the next book I hope Harry will again be sensitive to others, especially those who have stood by his side no matter what like; Ron, Hermione, Hagrid, Dumbledore and even Snape.
Rating: Summary: Hopefully better next time. Review: I have mixed feelings about this book. There was a lot of good things but quite a few bad. I read the rest of the series a few years ago and I have been waiting a long time for this book to come out. I was not nearly as impressed as I had hoped. There was so much hype and it was a major let down. Although I've noticed many people were not very happy about Harry's attitude and mood throughout the book, that was one thing I was impressed with. We found out that Harry is not simply the poor little orphan that everyone should feel sorry for. We saw him angry, hateful and jealous. These are the traits that in the first book the sorting hat saw that would have helped him along in Slytherin. Fortunately, he doesn't act out on these feelings. I also liked the use of more characters. I thought it was great getting to know kids from other houses and also some of the old kids, such as Neville. Its good to see that Voldemort is bigger than just Harry. People get so wrapped up in Harry's battles that they forget that he's not the only one who has been deeply scarred by Voldemort's attacks. Throughout the book we were kept in the dark about so many things. When we'd find out what the deal was it was very often barely worth the wait, if at all. The book was very wordy and not much really happened for a book nearly 900 pages in length. It was very disappointing. I was also not impressed by Harry's continual hatred towards Snape. Its about time for them to call a truce. There were great opportunities for such an event in this book. Their battle is starting to get old. Although I don't think they ever need to be pals, there should at least be a mutual understanding of each other. The process was started but then it got dropped and never touched on again. Lastly, the end. The whole book led you up to an end that was very anti-climatic. There was an attack and everything but it was not impressive. Voldemort's appearance at the end was not impressive at all. Most disappointing was the mysterious death of a major character. Although I liked the character and did not want him to die, I was okay with it. My problem is the way he died. It was so non-valiant. He just merely died. It was in battle but not from an attack, just being in the wrong place. He could have at least been saving someone or something. As I read the ending I got the feeling that the author was getting bored of writing and wanted to wrap things up quickly. The end was rushed and not great. I did like to finally hear everything from Dumbledore about Harry's life. The book left us ready for book six, but very little happened that was truly important. It was never clearly explained why Voldemort needed the item in the end. I was also very upset about the item Harry remembered at the end of the book. It was not at all like Harry to forget about something like that. He would have opened it as soon as he could after receiving it. It seemed as though the author ignored it to provide more pages in her book. J.K. Rowling...sometimes less is more. I really hope the next book is written much sooner than this book. The book was so disappointing after all that wait. It will make waiting for the sixth book much easier, although I can't wait for it to come out. Hopefully it will be of the same caliber as books 3 and 4.
Rating: Summary: Another New Turn for the H.P. Series Review: What happened to the good old days when the H.P. series was light and happy? I miss all the grand old charm of the past book, and though this new book is indeed good, readers be forewarned it is much darker and grows less and less suitable for its younger and younger fans.
Rating: Summary: Not much to say with 2,000++++ reviews.... Review: NO SPOILERS: As I just finished reading this book for the first time... I have to say my fill. I guess maybe some people are disapointed(Your problem) and such, but hey its bound to happen. Esp. with people putting 'Million Mile High' expectations on a Muggle creation... However as much as I love Harry Potter I would scathe if it were bad. And despite its legnth it held my interest non-stop. If I could help it I NEVER stopped reading it over the course of 3days. Would I rate it the best in the series? Probrably... Why you ask? Skeptical? The characters mainly, I was reduced to tears several times(Though maybe was from lack-of-sleep, but I doubt it.! :p) And sure the books are'nt perfect, nothing is, even JK Rowling said that everytime she write's a book she says its 'dreadful' and 'doesn't know why she's doing this because she's a terrible writer.', but as a fellow writer I do the EXACT SAME THING...(Though unfortenately in my case they usually are'nt the greatest... But then whos' EVER satisfied with what they do?) But these books are'nt dreadful, just go in with an open mind. All the characters have been fleshed out alot more, giving them room to breath. And I loved Harry and hated him (Quite often at the same time.)... But it was because he reminds ALOT like myself, esp. lately. I swear I'm 3yrs behind in maturing. And I dunno why... But I am going through pretty much exactly what Harry is or have at least gone through it(With the exception of the death of parents and such.) But I think this was an important step for Harry to make to become the man he will eventually become. And if you look in the past books there's loads of stuff pointing to all he does. The thing that amazes me is that EVERYTHING J.K. Rowling puts into these books is put in here FOR A REASON. Often you may read a new book and be able to spot things that line right up with events or things mentioned from past books(Esp. so in OotP.). It saddens me that 29% of the people on mugglenet.com are disapointed with this book. Because well I don't think J.K. could've done a better job and KNOW NO ONE ELSE COULD'VE(have you ever read HP fan fiction? Who knows the characters better?). But as I've said before NOT EVERYONE CAN LIKE EVERYTHING... And when there are these sort of expectations... Bound to be disapointment. Oh yeah, and I'm a Christain too. Just so ya know. I love Jesus, but Harry can be used for teaching the gospel too. Just like anything. :D So I just hope when you read these books, you enjoy them. And if you don't... Well I'm sorry. God Bless ~Amy
