Rating: Summary: BBBBBooorrring Review: This book is so boring! It starts off exciting and then gets lossed in words, too many. What I liked about the other Potter books was how they pulled the reader in the magical world. This book has a hard time getting to the point. I skimmed and skipped chapters just to get to the end and it was very so-so. Let's hope book 6 brings back the magic.

Rating: Summary: A truly great author writes a truly great story. Review: I am a school librarian. Part of my job is reading book reviews. I am not surprised that half of the reviews of this book are positive while the other half are not. When I first began reading this book I was annoyed at Harry's continual anger. However. as I progressed through the book I saw J.K. Rowling as a master storyteller. She is really into developing Harry's character. He is not stagnant; he is changable and responses in a realistic way to the events surrounding him.The author has made this book so multidimensional. I believe that the number of new characters and the unpredictable behaviors of the old characters may confuse and frustrate some readers. However, I believe that this multidimensional aspect adds to the story. I particularly loved the characterization of Delores Umbridge. In defense of this book, I must say that the length is necessary to put all the pieces together for the reader to realize the real nature of the journey that Harry is experiencing. Book 4, The Goblet of Fire, made this necessary. Unfortunately it is not until the end of the book that I realized the necessity of the book's length and Harry's angst. But, my final reaction was "WOW! I could not put this book down. I just had to find out what happened next. And, very thing now makes sense." J.K. Rowling has in this book taken the reader from magical and entertaining to magical and realistic. Yes,The Ministry of Magic has corrupt representatives and Harry does experience true grief.
Rating: Summary: ***Disappointing, but still a great book*** Review: I am a huge Harry Potter fan to say the least. I have read the first four books five times each and I eagerly awaited the fifth book, showing up three hours early the night it was released. While I am still just as much of a fan as I was before, I finished the fifth book feeling a little disappointed. First of all, I thought the book was way too long. Admittedly, the fourth book was also lengthy, but it was action-packed with the Quidditch World Cup, the Triwizard Tournament, and the return of Voldemort. This new book was even longer, but with the exception of the end, I can't think of any really exciting things that happened. It dealt a lot more with the emotions that Harry was feeling rather than his adventures that have hooked so many readers. Secondly, I thought Harry seemed very dark and angry most of the book. I know it was necessary to let the reader in on some of the things he was feeling, but not everything. He yelled at Ron and Hermione a lot and fought with Cho several times. While he was acting just like any other teenager, I didn't think he was the same as in the first four books. Unlike some people, I don't think that J.K. Rowling has lost her stuff. I think that in the sixth and seventh books, all the loose ends from this book will be tied together. I also hope there will be a good reason a main character had to die. Even though it has its faults, this is still a wonderful book that you won't be able to put down. As for me, I still love Harry Potter and I will be in line early to get my sixth book
Rating: Summary: Looooooong book Review: First, let me say that I finished this book in about 7 hours, even though it's quite long. The writing is vividly descriptive but I have to say that had this been the first book, I might have had second thoughts about reading the second. The full first half of the book doesn't really move - I kept reading and reading hoping to get to the action. It's not that the first half doesn't paint a good picture - it does. It's simply that nothing truly significant seems to happen until after the second half begins. It is full of tension and angst, and I would not really suggest that any parent let their child read this before reviewing it first themselves. All in all a good read, darker as promised, but still - slow to get going.
Rating: Summary: Darkest year yet! Review: Harry potter's fifth year at hogwarts is his darkest year yet. Last year when Dumbledore announced that Voldemort had returned, the Ministry of Magic thought he was crazy. Apparently, Dumbledore has not been able to convince the Ministy and they and their supporters think both him and Harry are crazy. Luckuly, those who are with Dumbledore have reformed the Order of Phoenix, which is a society meant to fight Voldemort and his followers. At school, the Ministy is trying to take over Hogwarts. They have sent in Dolores Umbridge, a toad like professor, to teach defence against the dark arts. She soon becomes the high inquisitor of Hogwarts and wants as many veasons as possible to land Harry and his fellow Gryffindors in trouble. Harry and his friends must watch out for her at everything they do. Harry has had more views of Voldemort in his sleep since he returned, or are they just planted dreams? Now VOldemort gets into Harry's mind and lures him into the mysterious Department of Mysteries seeking a mysterious prophecy. This results in having the prophecy smashed and Harry's godfather dead. At last, after the journey, Harry learns the secrets of the lost prophecy and the possibilities in his future. I think the fifth book has not as much joy as in the first four books. There were not many places where much happines took plass and there was less a magical feeling.
Rating: Summary: Great book...BUT HOW DARE SHE Review: This was by far the best Harry Potter so far but how dare J.K. Rowling kill-off THE BEST CHARACTER EVER WRITTEN INTO THE STORY. Other than that little detail. Here is my advice: Buy it, Read it, Love it, and there is no way you can go wrong.
Rating: Summary: AN ANGRY POTTER??? Review: This book was AWSOME!!! But it is very different- all muggles BEWARE of an angry and a short-tempered Potter...this book (as you can probably tell by its cover) is very dark. Harry Potter's scar hurts most of the time, he gets (real) visions, and he ALWAYS dreams about a long dark corridor that is full of doors...Also he is in shock when Ginny and Ron join the Quiddich Team...And this book has a little romance (you may be wondering about Harry and Cho-but you'll have to read the book to find out!!!)...The only thing that make the book funny and relaxing are Fred, Gorge, and of course Peeves (who do so many funny things that its easy to forget everyone's worries and just laugh) This book has a toed-like Defense Against The Dark Arts Teacher who is just (well the right word for it is) dumb, wired, unfair and down-right mean...Most things in this book was depressing and dark...At times even I felt frustrated and wanted to YELL at Harry and other people...Don't get me wrong-its not BAD...in fact its really VERY VERY VERY GOOD...but I DID expect this book to be like this (because of what happened in the end of book four)...But when I was in the middle of it I felt that the book was odd-because even though the first four had something to do with (Vol-Oops! sorry...) HE-WHO-MUST-NOT-BE-NAMED it was not that depressing...I recommend this book to all you muggles-even though it has a sad ending...I hope J.K. Rowling doesn't take another 3 years to write the next book...Don't forget that this book ROCKS!!! Its a million WOWs!!!!!
Rating: Summary: a long read, but worth it in the end! Review: Yeah, I definitely agree that this was a long, looong read. And I admit, I was kind of put-off as I was reading the first few chapters of the book. Harry was downright unlikeable at times. However, Rowling fashions the book in such a way that the reader eventually adapts to changes in Harry and his world. Some might have preferred the same tone and structure of books 1-3 to continue all the way down the line to book 7, but I guess Rowling decided that incorporating the reality of growing up and evolving was the best thing to do, even if a bit uncomfortable and awkward at first. At the same time, you have to wonder why she'd want to tamper with the formula that made her books such a hit in the first place. Sometimes it's a little frustrating to read details that aren't really relevant until the end of the book (or possibly until the end of the series), but it makes it worthwhile when everything fits together in that "ohhh, that makes sense" moment. Can't argue that there is still much originality and cleverness to be found in the latest Harry Potter book. Not to mention, I've found many more humorous moments in this book. There were parts that made me laugh out loud; Rowling does a great iob of painting funny scenes and appealing to the reader's sense of humor more than usual. It does a great ob of immersing you into the Hogwarts world, especially because there is so much detail. If you're eager for constant action and fluidity, I can definitely see how you might get fidgety with the length of the book. All in all, though, a great read for me!
