Summary: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Review: I was rather disappointed by this book, as the ending did not surprise me much, unlike the previous books. For anybody who has read the previous books, he/she should have easily guessed the prophecy - wasn't it the pounding point in the previous four books?! Overall, I feel that it was a winded way to deliver a simple prophecy that all of us knew before reading the book.

On a separate note, Rowling portrayed Harry's in a more angry tone than a lot of us have gone through in our adolescence. Such anger, lack of deliberation, and endless rash decisions make one wonder whether Harry does possess what Dumbledore said that Harry has in abundance. I found that quite unconvincing.

Additionally, I found that Rowling overemphasized the heroism in Harry and failed to give due credits to Hermione and others for their loyalty and teamwork. For example, Hermione continued to amaze me with her knowledge and skills, and without her, Harry might not have bothered with Daily Prophet and a lot of other sources. I would think that by cutting down on Harry's self-pity and developing other characters more, Rowling would have made the book much more intriguing.

Summary: ...Whoa, can't wait for book 6
Review: All I can Say is Wow! What a writer J.K. Rowling is, I have now read all 5 books and I am drooling for the next book. I just hope I dont have to wait three years for the next one. The story in this book is sad, but the images you get from reading the book put you in another world. I do have one downside to this book, if you thought goblet of fire was a dark book, then wait til you read this one. I couldn't believe that I was crying over a book. But in short, If you want to read a good book, then buy this one now!

Summary: I just hope Rowling hasn't peaked by Book 4
Review: I must say book 5 was a bit disappointing. Maybe book 4 was just too good. The whole plot in BK 5 is based on some very silly premises that I think is anti-climatic, and the person who died, just died because Rowling wanted to write more about death or how a teenager must deal with death.

Granted, I still like this book, it talks about many other things in the wizard's world: giants, hosipitals, bars, it gives us a better picture of Harry's world.

Let's say everything was interesting but the main plot line.

I just hope 6 and 7 will be better.

Summary: Horribly disappointed!
Review: Wow, what a complete let down. Apparently, JK is too busy with other things (spending money?) to put out any quality with this book. Not like she didn't have time or anything to think of a good story. The "multi-plot" is sketchy and weak, our favorite characters (good and bad) are defaced. The unbelievable Umbridge is such a stretch, it was a complete joke. The book is frustrating and angry and completely negative. There is such a lack of imagination. Although we were all waiting for Harry's teenage years to kick in, he was never so disrespectful & angry & sour--or so stupid. Even Voldemort was lame and lifeless. It wasn't scary or dark, it was poorly written. All of the magic is gone.

Summary: Amazing As Usual
Review: Some have called Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix the darkest hour for Harry, the "Empire Strikes Back" of the series. I would disagree. The book does stay in darker territory for much of the text, but ends on an elated note as the primary enemy is defeated and some of the series-long enemies are deflated. Cedric's death and Harry's vision of his parents at the end of book IV was a lot more shocking than anything that happens in book V.

The Order of the Phoenix starts out slowly, taking over 200 pages before Harry is back at Hogwarts. In the meantime, we are exposed to more adult wizards. This book is really about growing up, as the teens think about careers, difficult exams, and the opposite sex. There is also a theme about family, and getting new perspectives on other people. It's definitely clear that Harry has become a teenager, and you will groan as you read about his foibles in dating.

This book ends on a contemplative note, with Harry knowing much more about himself and his family. Going back to Privet drive doesn't seem like it's going to be as terrible as previous years, and the reader ends the book with a satisfied smile, content to wait for Rowling's next installment.

Summary: How long must we wait for the next year
Review: I'm a Harry Potter reader and like anyone else I was glad I could finally hold the fifth book in my hands.

It took me bout a week to read it and now for some comment.
I was a bit dissapointed in the book, the new defense-teacher character is a bit too much overdone. I'm trying not to spoil, but she could have been a good friend of he who must not be named, and his allies. In the beginning you think it is simply unfair, but after a while it seems more unreal than unfair.
Luckily the book does step up in quality near the end, but the last pages are not very satisfying either.
A lot of answers have been given, but in my opinion a lot of questions remain unanswered.

Still it is a quite nice book, and a must for all Harry Potter fans, since it is a part of the seven-part saga.

I just hope that J.K. Rowling will have finished part 6 before next summer, because the long waiting might be a killer after this (not completely up to hope standards) fifth book.

greetings to all you Harry Potter friends there.

Patrick.

Summary: not as good as expected
Review: in this book, harry is older then last year. And he's got a really short temper this year. And, so, he's also, always shouting at his best friends, who still, stay loyal to him. I wonder how. But anyway, this book is really as goo d as i expected. I mean, most of the things don't really blend in with the rest of the sory. And i dont think that the idea, of dlores ulmbridge, as the defence against the dark arts teacher, was quite so good. But, i'm saying all this, only according to the standards of J K Rowling. If i was judging the book against any other auther, i wud sa y that its around the one of the best books ever written. Anyway, if i start writng about ut anymore, i'll give out the whole story Its a good book, overall. And i dont expect that this reveiw is actually going to help anyone. But i suggst you buy the book!!!!!!!

Summary: Depressing
Review: I was extremely disappointed in this book. I found it very depressing. Cruel in its treatment...the incident of Harry's hand being sliced open and bleeding was nasty. I wondered if Ms Rowlings had had bad experiences with teachers as she made some so vicious. I did not think the story of Harry's father tormenting SNAPE added anything to the story line. The story carried the line that Harry HAD TO learn to control his own mind yet turned him over to the worst teacher for this. Did not make sense at all. And the Centaurs, once Harry's heroes, have turned into villains.
I bought copies of these HP books in the past, for family and friends. I will not buy anymore of this copy. I would not recommend it for children at all. I would not recommend it for anyone who loved the HP books in the past. Ms R. took a wrong turn somewhere.

Summary: not as good as the rest
Review: I have to say that I was extremely disappointed in this book. I thoroughly enjoyed 1-4 of HP, and have reread them several times. This book just did not have the plot or the cohesiveness of the other four books. When I finished the other books I thought about how they connected to the one before them for several days afterwards. With book five I just set it down and was disappointed. All it did was tell us something we already could have guessed at the end and kill off my favorite character. I understood why someone died in the last book. But in this book it just seemed like she killed someone off to end the book. Also, it definitely could have been edited better. Not only were there parts that did not need to be in the book, there were also many typos and grammatical errors. I agree with others that it was pushed onto the market too soon and should have been pared down a little to make it a better read. It is like she knows that the books are popular enough that whatever she writes will get read. I hope that the next two books are much better than this.

Summary: As always, Great! But the weakest in the series so far
Review: As with all the previous books this is impossible to put down and I actually stayed awake all night to read it. We are so interested in knowing what will happen next to Harry Potter and Voldemart and it was wonderful to finally have the next instalment.

There are a lot of good things in the book. There are some new characters and a lot more about the existing ones. We learn something about Prof Snape, who is for me one of the most interesting characters in the series and still rather ambiguous. Harry has to deal with some uncomfortable new information about his parents. He finds himself in the awful position of being treated as a bit of a joke and a fraud, and it seems that Dumbledore is totally ignoring him. Dumbledore has his own problems, as the ministry and others believe him to be increasingly senile. There is some interesting stuff about the Black family and the world of the Pure-blood wizard aristocracy. The Weasley family esp. Mrs Weasley, Percy and the Weasley twins have important parts. Hermione keeps getting more brilliant and wise. There is a amusing encounter with Prof Gilderoy Lockhart. And more .....

But I have some major problems with the book. First, considering that this is the longest of the books so far and took so long to write, nothing much really happens. At the end of the last book Lord Voldemart had returned to full command of his powers, but is strangely absent from this one. "Prisoner of Azkaban" etc were shorter and had more plot. Secondly, the transition of Harry from cheerful nice-guy before the summer holidays to moody, bad-tempered adolescent when he comes back to school is just too sudden.

"Order of the Phoenix" is not as dark and atmospheric as "Goblet of Fire", which was almost too disturbing for my son. Not sure if it was intentional, but this book will not cause any nightmares.
