Rating: Summary: Spell has broken a bit Review: It's still a good read...but petulant Harry's no longer quite so lovable, the book is too long for the amount of plot, and most of the characters we've come to know and love just seem to be making token appearances. It's a bit more realistic portrayal of a teenage boy...but who said I was reading this series for realism? I'll keep reading, but I'm not waiting anxiously for #6.
Rating: Summary: "THE BEST IN A SERIES THAT HAS CLASSIC WRITTEN ALL OVER IT" Review: When i first found out that the 5th Harry Potter book was coming out in the summer of 2003 i freaked. I then found out that it was coming out on June 21 my birthday!!!!! Well after almost 9 months of waiting i finally got the book and didn't stop reading from midnight to 9 p.m the next night. I would have to say that this was by far the best in the series because of its realistic changes of Harry Potter. In this book Harry takes out more rage on the people he loves and cares about and of corse the ones he dosen't. I to am just like Harry going through changes in life and being very mean even when i don't mean it. Unlike all the other books i didn't feel like i was watching it go through my head like a good movie but that i was in this movie full of twists and turns. I also thought that the other charecters in the story were changing. Ron was starting to get more responsibility and was turning into a very responsible person. Hermione even though didn't change as much as the others still should a hint of change and i think we saw a different side of her in the book. I loved how this wonderful book started out. Harry laying in the bushes below the Dursleys window listening to the news hoping he would here something that would tell him about the wizard world. I then quickly got into action and found out you learn more about some of the charecters. You find a secret about Mrs. Figgs which i don't know about you rather shocked me. Then quickly got into Harry's rescue and then taking to the hidaway of TOOTP. I soon found myself in Hogwarts going through the same normal daily life. EXCEPT and this is a major change in the plot is they get a new teacher named Mrs.Umbrige who has a persinality of poisened honey. She is probably the meanest nastest teacher anybody could ask for. Then to top it all of they get a new Divinations teacher who is a Centaur. Also many things happen such as. Harry starts being in Voldermorts shoes, Dumbledore is asked to leave Hogwarts, Fred and George run away, Harry gets detention, Rons father is attacked, and somebody dies. I WAS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO shocked by who died i almost feel back in my seat. It rather shocks me that a single mother with a child who is living on welfare could become so famous. It shows for a fact that if you put your mind to something then maybe if you try real hard it can come true. So if you wish to be swept into a world of magic then sit down in a room with the fire on and snuggle up in a nice leather chair and read for hours and soon you will be of just like Harry to a magical place called HOGWARTS!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: The Real Magic Review: One word: Brilliant. J.K. Rowlings has done it again. The book incorporates many themes. She takes these themes and puts them together into a story that will be memorable and will stay in our hearts forever. Magic, Good and Evil, Religion, Fate, Friendship, Betrayal, and teenagers trying to simply fit in. Supernatural snakes, magic, a prisoner, a giant, prophecy, the struggle between two eternal enemies. Not Harry and Voldemort as one might think, no, not that, but simply the rivalry between Light and Dark, or Students and Teachers, perhaps(?), instinct and intelligence, and right and wrong. The fifth book incorporates all of these the most. How many of us identify with harry? There is probably something we can all see in him. That is also what makes this story so great. We dont just think of it as a story, we think of harry as our best friend or maybe even ourselves in certain regards. So, in closing i must say that in my personal opinion, Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix to be the best book in the series.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix-A book of wonders Review: I think this is a wonderful book that every Harry Potter fan (and others) will thoroughly enjoy from cover to cover. I love all Harry Potter books but this one really sets the books apart from others. This is an incredible experience that everyone will enjoy. Read it yourself with your friends to your siblings with your {grand}parents! With whoever you read it or whenever you read it it will be an awesome adventure for you (and your friends or family). Trust me buy this book! It'll blow you away.
Rating: Summary: HE IS 15 NOW!! Review: JK has done it again! For the fifth time now, she's disrupted my whole daily routine and has forced me to get way behind on both my sleeping and working hours. Yet it was all well worth it. Putting this book down was not an option I considered after I started reading it. In this book Harry displays much more anger and has the readers rooting and cheering him on. There are characters like Snape and Fudge that make you wanna hit something and JK also introduces a new character named Umbridge that will make you think Snape is nice and Kind professor. There were numerous times that I yelled at the book in anger saying phrases like that "That ...." and believe me I hardly ever use that type of language, but JK has done a spectacular job in creating a character even more despicable than Snape. The only Problem I have with this book is that Harry is now 15 and JK has kept it a childrens book level. I know it was intended for children, but Harry being a boy and now being 15 should have displayed more thoughts about girls and this book should have had more young adult level thoughts. Aside from that you will find that the story takes many twists and turns and Jk will reveal to you so many new secrets that will leave your head spinning with questions you want answered in the next book. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Five is Alive Review: Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix is a wonderful read, full of imagination, plots, characters and emotions to satisfy anyone interested in fantasy reads. I would not call these books "children's fiction" anymore. J.K. Rowlings writes very well and I am reminded, in many ways, of Lord of the Rings.
Rating: Summary: Inch by Inch Life's a Cinch, Yard by Yard it's Very Hard... Review: The words of Confuscious perfectly sum up Harry Potter's life. During Harry's 1st year at Hogwarts he rescued the Sorcerer's Stone and confronted Voldemort (shivers). During his second year he foils Voldemort once more in the Chamber of Secrets. During his third year he faces dementors and saves his godfather/top wizard criminal, Sirius Black, from Azkaban in possibly the richest installment in the series. In his fourth year he inadvertantly competes in the perilous Triwizard Tournament, faces death and witnesses Voldemort's return to power (although nobody believes him). However, Harry's fifth year at Hogwarts poses much more immediate tribulations. He faces lies, mistrust from fellow Hogwarts students, detentions GALORE, yelling matches, confusion, isolation, "foolish adults that won't tell him anything because he won't understand it," and the highly potent and evil Professor Umbridge. Also, Dumbledore mysteriously won't acknowledge Harry or even look at him! These problems even, are overshadowed by a reoccurring dream about the Department of Mysteries that Harry has. But Harry has no respite even in his dreams, as a fearful and realistic vision through Voldemorts eyes turns out to be nothing short of a sort of present prophesy. As Harry's year concludes with a climactic battle in the Department of Mysteries and *cough* another confrontation with Death [Eaters] and Voldemort. But at the very end of the term, Dumbledore finally concedes to Harry and tells him everything he knows about the mysterious connection of him and Voldemort.... My complaints about this book are few but important. For one, the book has quite a bit of repetition and supposedly useless subplots. Secondly, Rowling's interpretation of Harry's troubles with puberty are somewhat off. Maybe it's just me, but I would NOT have messed up as much as Harry, even though I have a much worse temper. I've never had a girlfriend in my life and yet I know much more about girls than Harry does. Teenagers really ARE misunderstood because adults think that just because they have "more experience" they automatically know "what's best." (However, this book goes MUCH more smoothly and seemlessly than Goblet of Fire. This more than makes up for lack of battles, etc.) Anywho, my opinion of "what's best" is for Rowling to get crackin' on that sixth book!!!
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: I am a huge fan of the series. With The Order of the Phoenix, Rowling seems to have lost her way. Specifically, none of the characters are likable, there is no comic or fantastic relief (the Dursley's are hellish, Sirius's home is hellish, Hogwart's is hellish,...), relationships are trivial (I expected a lot more out of Harry/Sirius, and Harry/Cho), and the great prophecy is a total yawn. Most fans of the series could have come up with a more entertaining list of events, plot twists, settings, and character transformations than are contained in this installment. I haven't been this surprised in a bad way since Aliens 3.
Rating: Summary: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Review Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a good novel reflecting on Harry Potter's fifth year in Hogwarts. Trapped in his summer home- the Dursleys, Harry is very annoyed the Voldemort, after his return at the end of the previous year, has not yet reveled himself. When there is less than a month left before his return to Hogwarts, Harry is resqued by the Order of the Phoenix. When Harry finally returns to the school, he is faced with even more problems, the new Defence Against Dark Arts teacher (who is also the "High Inquisitor" at Hogwarts) and the Ministry of Magic denial of Voldemort's return. Overall, the fifth Hary Potter book talks mostly about Harry's problem's and confusions and the lengths he goes to resolve them. The book is written with a wonderful sence of humor and a philosophy that does not only apply to the wizarding world. For example, by denying the return of Voldemort, the Ministry of Magic can be compared to several existing governments (and several governments that exist no more), and the way those governments mislead their people, as well as showing how easy it is to for a government to make its people believe it. In all of Rowling's books, there existed a balance between Hogwarts and the outside world (for example, when, in the fourth book, Voldemort has returned, but the life at the school seemed to run rather smoothly). However, in the fifth book this balance is altered when in adition to the Ministry's denial and Voldemorts return, enters Professor Umbrige, to make not only the situation in the outside world difficult. This book, like the one before it, is also VERY long (he reaches Hogwarts on page 200), and many of its details do not have to be included.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely fabulous! Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix is the best installment yet in the 7 book series! I loved it so much I couldn't put it down and had it read in 5 days! When Harry starts his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, fresh torments arise including a truly horrible Defense against the Dark Arts teacher from the Ministry, the Black Family house elf with a venemous personality, and (worst of all) strange dreams about a silent dark corridor and visions of terrifying events that end in Harry screaming and breaking out in a cold sweat! The ending was so sad it made me cry so hard I got the hiccups! Do not read this book if you have not read books 1 through 4 beforehand. This is the best book you'll read all summer garaunteed.
