Rating: Summary: Better if 300 pages Review: The readers should have noticed that the story getting longer and longer for every subsequent of Harry Potter's sequel. But it seemed unneccessary for long narration especially some daily life details of Harry Potter which is less related to the main plot of the book. Rowling previous book, The Goblet of Fire has the weakness, and this new one, The Order of The Phoenix made the same mistake. I think the first book, The Philosopher's Stone still the best of Rowling, solid and compact without much waste of words. The characters of Harry and his friends, Ron, Hemione and others already have been well-described in her previous books, what's the points to spend 2/3 of the books to detail it with some trivial events like OWLS exam and etc which burden the readers with more pages? Details should go along with the major plot, and less inks should have spent on the unrelated branches. Readers can easily identify which were the unnecessaries, but unfortunately the author seemed want to obsess readers with her skill of building up a whole wizardry world by her imaginative works.
Rating: Summary: Worth the wait! Review: By the time I finished the last page, I was in denial. It was just so sad. The death of that "character" brought me to tears. This fifth installment was a great read. Rowling's style is just undescribeable. Also, the way she ends each chapter just makes you want to read on. The story does drag on but some have to understand that Rowling was doing something new. Harry is now an adolescent. He's at an age where there are changes and he's trying to figure out. I think it lived up to the hype. It's not my favorite Harry Potter book but it's still very good.
Rating: Summary: As expected Review: The book is as good as the ones before it. I would recommend just skimming over the old books to gather some important reference material if you are a person who forgets names etc...
Rating: Summary: Wonderful!! Review: This is "the" book of all time. Harry is a adolescent who is in a fullblown rage at anyone who ticks him off. I found it very interesting and funny. When reading this book, I was enthralled by it. I kept wanting to know more and more about what's going to happen next. You feel happy, sad, annoyed, ticked off ready to snap. The characters were great!! Ginny sounded like a smart aleck which got me annoyed, Neville was fanastic, Snape was good and stupid as usual. Hermione was the brilliant one which I very much liked. Ron, Fred, and George were hiliarious. The new characters were outstanding!! The villians were good in an evil way This book would keep you reading till the last page and make you wish you had the 6th book right now. Happy Reading!!
Rating: Summary: an excellent book Review: ok, i am SO sick of hearing people complain and whine about how this book is so dark and depressing. While I did find it darker than the other books, I dont think it was as bad as people keep going on about. In fact, I believe that this book should be darker. I mean, Voldemorts just returned, it's not suposed to be sunshine and roses. Besides, Harry Potter is a coming of age story. He's not going to be the little innocent 11 year old forever. (LOL, well I dont think he was innocent, but you know what I mean.) In this book, you can defintely tell that Harry is growing up. Maybe he did get angry and start yelling, but don't all teenagers? I personally like the dark tone of the book. It creates more depth. Lastly, J.K Rowling said herself that the books would get darker. In an interview, she said that a woman came up to her and said "My daughter is 6 and loved your book." And Rowling told her 6 was a bit to young b/c she know whats coming and it will get darker. I liked this story a lot, and while its not my favorite (goblet of fire) its an amazing book.
Rating: Summary: Is that you Potter ? Review: I finally finished this book, and feel STRANGE! STRANGE because that was not the usual feeling I got after finishing my Harry Potter book. I missed a lot of things, especially the young, active, and unmoody Harry. I think JK did a right thing by wrote about teenager and their emotional problems, but hey, where is the link ? The changes in Harry's mood seems unbridged and so sudden. That's not how human are evoluting, right ? If you think again about Haryy, the moody character doesn't fit, how come a sportsman like Harry, could end up as a depresive person like that? And I do missed the continous actions. The first part of the book was slow. And the ending is so poor, where is the unsuspected endings? Where is the linking information between Harry and Voldemort beside the emotional facts from Dumbledore (seems that everybody become emotional here)?I can not believe I can put this book several time before I finished it. Anyway, It is not a crime to be emotional, but please, not to much ! I still like this book tough because the story teach you that you can not always win in life, and emotion can kill you (or someone else). Think with your brain, not your heart !
Rating: Summary: Still love Harry, but this was a downer Review: I'm a huge fan of HP and I actually thought the read was entertaining, although it does leave a reader heavily disappointed. What struck me though was the difference in Rowling's writing style. While the other 4 books were vivid and clear, Book 5 was confusing in the grammer and syntax. I found myself having to reread passages to understand what was going on. I didn't mind Harry's brattiness, but I was heavily disappointed with the dwindling of Ron and Hermione's relationship and the Harry/Cho relationship. Why did she have to turn Cho who was previously established as a nice, popular girl, into a crying, annoying airhead? How disappointing!! I hope that their characters and relationship can improve in Book 6! I was also disappointed that there was no advance in Harry and Snape's relationship. You mean to tell me after knowing that Snape is one of the good guys and was trying to help him and knowing that his own father abused the poor guy, Harry still has no sympathy or understanding of his Potions Master? Come on HARRY! And of course the quick and uneventful death left me puzzled and confused at the end. Why did his/her death have to be so [bad]? And like the others, I thought the prophecy was old news... There were however some great moments with the Weasley twins, and Hermione tricking the evil Ms. Umbridge. And I loved the D.A. Overall, the book wasn't horrible, but there were weird inconsistencies in this one which really sets it apart from the others. Book 4 by far is the best book.
Rating: Summary: Great read, but Goblet Of Fire was still better! Review: Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix. Good book? Why yes it was a great book, yet it was so darn depressing at parts, that I wanted to rip the book to shreds. The book has a very moody plot, where Harry goes to Hogwarts for his fifth year, and A horrid minister woman named Dolores Umbridge comes in as a Defense Against The Dark Arts teacher. She is sent by fudge, since fudge does not want to believe Voldemort is back, and since he wants to know what is happening, and what he can change at Hogwarts. Well Umbridge, is just a horrible women, and I wish I could kill her at times for what horrible things she does in the book. (read it if you want to know what I mean) She does things like inspect teachers, and have them fired, tries to expel Harry several times, dislikes half breeds, interrupts everyone with a fake cough, and bans people like fred, george and harry potter from ever playing quidditch again. She upsets harry a lot, and makes everything unfair, yet she gets what she deserves, when she becomes headmaster of the school. Harry is very angry and moody at times in this book, not caring for people like Cho as much as I would have hoped (hopefully in later books he will), and getting carried away with his anger yet I understand all this since he is suffering a lot himself. I think rowling went a little to far with how angry Harry got, and thought Cho and Harry should have been friends, instead of enemies, because of Harry's attitude. I did like all the detail in the book though, and how so many depressing things happened, and how harry matured in many ways and started turning into a man. I almost wanted to kill someone from depressing parts in the book though, and at other times, I almost wanted to cry. I liked how Umbrigde got what she deserved at the end, and thought that Harry Potter and The Order Of The phoenix ended quite well. I also liked how Harry and the others fought the death eaters, and liked when cornelius fudge finally believed Dumbledore. It was sad that a person died at the end, but in all, this book was very enjoyable, and if you want more details about this great fifth installment in the series, then you really should go and read it yourself. The reason the book didn't get five stars, is because of the book being so depressing at parts, and because the book could have been 200 pages less. The fourth was more interesting and showed Harry better than the fifth book, yet I like the fifth book better than the first two. Go and read this book now, you can't go wrong, and get ready to feel like you are there, because that is what this book does surprisingly well.
Rating: Summary: Down the hill Review: Book is quite disappointing. I was actually skipping pages. First 4 books were very light, emotional, you felt as you were in Hogwarts, Privet Drive... This one is very heavy written, much darker, it just lost the charm of Harry Potter. I really hope that next 2 books will be on the top again.
Rating: Summary: JK Needed a good editor Review: Harry version 5 is a good book but just too long. The book was excellently written but nothing really happens for long stretches and you get the picture early on that Harry is upset etc etc. I waited anxiously to read the book and was not terribly disappointed by any means..it just could have been a bit shorter... That said..I cannot wait for 6....
