Summary: J.K., where are you?
Review: I was VERY disappointed and, based upon my discussions with others, I'm not alone. I can honestly say that I didn't begin to even partially enjoy this book until the last 200 or so pages, always waiting for that UMPH. The writing seemed to have changed - less geared to children, and the tone was far more depressing, sometimes leaving me anxious. Although life in reality does have its ups and downs, Book 5 makes Harry's life seem almost suicidal.
I was left with the feeling that J.K. is either bored, has lost interest, or would rather move on to other things. I still look forward to the two remaining books; but, let's hope they are more in line with the tone of the first 4 and, for goodness sakes, please give Harry some semblance of optimism!

Summary: A Disappointing result after a long wait
Review: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is by no means a bad book, it's just not as good as the others (especially the fourth which was amazing). The fourth book began to break away from the usual form of the first 3. It starts with "the riddle house" instead of a usual description of the horrible summer that Harry gets to have. The triwizard tournament and Voldemort's return are also exceptionally imaginative additions. Now that Voldemort comes back, I expected the 5th book to be even more creative and different and aimed at older readers. However, it was disappointing in that J. K. Rowling chooses to go back to the old format of the first three books to talk about harry's horrible summer again, which is extremely repetitive (because we'be heard about it so many times). Harry's almost getting expelled (again) is nothing new and rather pointless. The fifth book should focus more on the main characters instead of introducing many new 2 dimentional characters such as Tonks and Umbridge.

There is practically no character development in the main characters. Harry, Ron and Hermione acts very much the same way as they would have in their previous years at Hogwarts. In fact, they even seem to be cariatures of their former selves. Hermione is so worrisome it's annoying, Ron's always bickering with her, and Harry is even more proud and stubborn than usual. I sympathized with him a lot in the previous books but in this one I found his constant yelling to be quite annoying. Indeed the only character that shows a bit of depth would be Neville.

I think that the book should have focused more on the major aspects of the book such as the relationship between Harry and Sirius and Harry's campaign against the Ministry, rather than be carried away in unimportant details such as Grawp, Umbridge and that horrible house elf. There were some really good parts in the book though. I thoroughly enjoyed "Dumbledore's Army" and when Fred and George left Hogwarts. The parts where the classmates worked together for something was very moving and were much more interesting than Harry yelling at various people. Usually at the end of the Harry Potter books is an unexpected twist (the end of the fourth book especially shocked me) but the last 100 pages of this book, although good, were somewhat predictable.

J. K. Rowling said that this book would be aimed at older readers, but I found it more suitable for younger ones. The 2 dimentional characters and the lack of really focusing on the main issues really affected the book as a whole. Although I waited 3 years for this book, I felt as if the author didn't really take a lot of time and care to polish this book. All in all, this was a disappointing result after a long wait.

Summary: Boring!
Review: This was the worst one yet. I was really looking forward to getting this book and it was a big let down. The important stuff wasn't explained in detail but all of the trivial stuff was. What's up with that? I could care less about half the stuff she drags on and on about. It almost seemed like she was just trying to make the book longer. The ending was good but not very well explained.

Good luck staying interested in this one!

Summary: Too much fun
Review: I was worried when I started reading this 5th book in the HP series that it wouldn't stand up to the others... I soon realised I had nothing to fear... JK Rowling once again submerges her readers into a world filled with fantastic adventures... I was so sad to finish the book... I'll probably be 25 by the time the next one comes out...

Summary: Rowling is a Master...or is it mistress? i don't know
Review: It is exceptional to watch a writer develop. It seems as Harry grows up so does Rowling's writing. What started out as a charming and fun book series has turned into something more. In "Order of the Phoenix" things get really dangerous for Harry. The plots are more intricate and the characters more three dimensional. This book is also possibly the darkest of the series. I applaud Rowling for having the guts in today's world of sophmoric and stupid literature for youth to tackle issues and ideas that most authors and artists are too cowardly to deal with. Children are young, but they can handle alot more than we give them credit. Even as the series has gone one a lesser author might tone things down in to make the books more palatable or easy to swallow to parents who disaproove of the book, but not Rowling. The books have in fact ecome more violent and darker as they go on. I reccomend this book highly.

At the beginning of the story, Harry is lying in his aunt and uncles flower bed so he could hear if there was any news of Voldemort's return. When Harry gets up he hears a loud crack!! What could have made that sound. After being almost strangled by his uncle and accused for making that loud cracking sound, Harry decides to take a walk. Harry meets up with his cousin Dudley on the way back to his uncle's house. They are then attacked by dementors. What a day! Four days later a group of six wizards and three witches come to the Durley's house to take Harry to the headquarter of the Order of the Phoenix. I can't tell you were it is, it's a secret. In the Order, surprises are around ever corner. Hogwarts is similar. When Harry gets back to Hogwarts he is very disappointed. Hagrid is not there and the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher is almost worse then Professor Snape. She gives Harry very painful lines and other evil things. Many other things happen this year at Hogwarts. Join in on the adventure and have fun!

Summary: EXCELENT
Review: Harry Potter and the order of phoenix is a great book. At the beginning he is stuck with his cousin, uncle, and aunt as usual. Then Harry get attacked by death eaters. Death eaters are lord voldemorts henchmen. Harry was being stalked by certain people in the ministry of magic. Certain parts of this story can be useful. Like the golden statues at the ministry. Those statues are very important. Sirus is in great trouble when he gets caught, but I don't like what happens at the end of the story when Sirus gets killed. Continuing as the beginning Harry is accused by the ministry of magic for using magic in the muggle world. Harry then was saved thanks to Professor Dumbledor. When I read this book I thought Harry was going to be a prefect, but it turned out to be Ron. Thru out the story when Harry reaches school Hagrid seems to be late for the sorting ceremony. The sorting hat had a new song, I think it was like a kids rhythm but I cant seem to remember. There was a new teacher for defense againsed the dark arts. It was professor Umbrige. Harry was pissed because professor Umbrige didn't believe Harry fought lord voldemort. So Harry got a detention for the rest of the weekdays. Professor Umbrige was harsh because she gave a pen that used Harry Potters blood to write on the parchment while cutting open his hand opening his hand. It turned out to be nasty when I read that part. There were O.W.L summing soon which are exams. Harry and Rom was way behind of all their homework.

Summary: The best yet!
Review: This Harry Potter book "the order of the Phoenix" far surpasses any of the others. I absolutely can't wait till this book is a movie. The special effects in the Ministry of Magic will be something people will talk about for years. I finished the book a few days ago and I want the next book soon. JK Rowling please write faster. This book is better than a 5 it is true magic.

Summary: A fitting evolution of the series
Review: I read this book in 1 day mostly because I had to know what would come next! Harry Potter has really evolved and it's nice to know that the author keeps his adolescent angst in mine to develop the character. Malfoy and Voldemort can be 1 dimensional in their complexity, but their characterization becomes richer with each new book.

I'm really looking forward to the next installment!
