Rating: Summary: Harry's Fifth Adventure.... not so exciting Review: I have read all the Harry potter books at least twice. I have to say all of them were better than the fifth one. J.K Rowling is a great author and to write five books takes a lot of time and effort. I do think that the fifth one was a little bland, boring, and uneventful. I felt like she kind forgot she was writing about the famous Harry Potter, I mean she made him have a horribly rude behavior, he had a hot temper, and he was inconsiderate and rude to his friends. Oh by the way I really liked Sirius why did she have to make him die, plus the way he entered the book was way cool and the way he had to live his whole life in hiding and always on the run. I think if she made him die she should have made him die doing something a little more exciting, have him die doing something courageous. Not fighting his cousin and then falling down a hole. I just hope the next book is worth 930 pages or however long it will be.
Rating: Summary: Not what I hoped for. Review: I'm ten years old. My mother and my grandma have read them to me. I wanted to have this one so much but now we have it I think it's boring. Nothing is funny in this one. Nothing happens for a long time. There is too much talking. Harry just sits and sits and doesn't get to be with Ron or Hermione very much. They keep talking about stuff that happened in the other books that I can't really remember very much and my grandma can't too. I wish it was shorter. I keep going to sleep when she reads it to me and I hate to go to sleep. ...(typed by his grandmother)
Rating: Summary: Disappointing at best Review: I was very disappointed with this book. I am a huge Harry Potter fan and was among those in line ahead of time to get this book. I got it the first day and finally finished it last night. All of the other books were finished within 2 days. It just did not have the excitement and energy of the other books. It was far to descriptive of the little details and lost alot of the excitement because of it. It dwelled to much on the dark stuff and really never came together for me. To many references to history and not enough new stuff. The final battle was uninspiring and the book could have been cut in about half and still ended up with the same impact. Umbridge was just to mean. I hope the next book is better.....
Rating: Summary: Best one yet Review: This is a terriffic book. The changes Harry went through, (becoming more moody and lashing out at others) are normal for a teenager to go through, anybody with teengage kids can tell me that. I will say that however that his mood is overexagerated, it is very normal for teenagers to lash out at teachers, and parental figures, but not friends. The retern of Voldermort was done very well. Like all the other books Voldermort did not show himself till the end of the book, but this time you have a duel bettween Voldermort, and Dumbeldore, which I have been hoping for. The Minsetry of Magic trys to deny the retern of Voldermort, and put restrictions on Hogworts. All the characters have grown and they have all been developed very well. This is a great book.
Rating: Summary: A Long and Enchanting Tale Review: I just finished reading this a few hours ago...on the 30th of July. (Isn't that Harry's birthday? What a coincidence if it is). It really does leave me at a loss of words. Sure, some parts were winding and probably could've done with some editing, but then again I, and everyone else i know who read it, had their noses glued onto it for a day or two until they finally finished it. So whether someone argues it was too long or dragged out, it still captivated you enough to not let you go. There's few obvious changes in this book in the Harry Potter series. For one, J.K Rowling allows other students from Hogwarts to play a bigger role in this book. (My favorite was having more of Fred and George Weasly. They're not just mentioned a bit more often, but they played in one of the best parts of the whole book...well, I don't want to give any spoilers but you'll now what I mean when their part comes. I loved it!) I really don't have to mention about the story or anything else to tell you this is one great book...it truly speaks for itself. I don't think I've ever heard of any other writer, let alone a children's writer, selling so many copies to so many people of all ages. I'm 21, and although Harry Potter isn't my favorite thing in the whole wide world, it sure is somewhere on the top of the list. J.K Rowling really does know how to make you care for her characters. When the 7th book is finally released, which'll be the last we'll hear of Harry, and it's gonna be up to our imagination to dream of what happens to the lives of Harry, Ron, Hermione, and all their wonderful classmates and friends....it's really gonna depress me. Cause it'll be the end we'll hear of their stories, but like all good stories they end.
Rating: Summary: It was great!! Review: I thought this book rocked, except for that i couldnt follow it too well. the plot seemed muttled or somrthing, but maybe it was just because i am too impatient!
Rating: Summary: Imagination is a gift from God Review: After reading just a few pages of the first Harry Potter book, I knew it was inspired. It feels good to read them and as soon as I'm done with each book, I can't want for the next one. This book continues the fun romp through the imagination of J.K.Rowling. These books are a miracle, a Godsend. They are worth every second of the time it takes to read them. I feel sorry for anyone who lacks the creativity to enjoy them.
Rating: Summary: SAY IT ISN'T SO, J.K. Review: My wife coaxed me for over a year to read Harry and after I did, I thanked her. The first four books were very good and extremely enjoyable. We were looking forward to number five along with the rest of the world, the book is delivered, excitement builds and then... Even though children might find it so, the size of a book is no indication of its worth. J.K., get an editor. How could such a good author turn out such a disappointing piece of work? It could have been written with half as many words and been twice as good! It reads as if the author had a temper tantrum with the editor and/or publisher and held back on delivery until there was not sufficient time to edit what might have been another very good book. Sentences are needlessly long and complex. Scenes are stuffed full of boring detail of what the kids were studying; new characters were introduced who had no or little use in the plot; attempts are made to make the magic seem as if it is a real subject that one may find in the curriculum of a real school but the overall effect fails to persuade. I was VERY disappointed and hope that her next attempt includes use of an editor or two. In any case, this book has caused me to wait until the next book is available in the public library. After having purchased over one thousand fine books, my private library cannot stand the addition of anything of such mediocre value.
Rating: Summary: Excellent - Harry's Growing Up Review: This book is consistent with the theme. Harry's family, friends and Hogwart's are growing and evolving. This episode takes Harry into the realm of the mysterious - teenage years. He dates, he becomes a teacher, he fights the bad guys and he learns what it means to helpless. There are new nasty people in this one; doing detention takes on a whole new meaning. There is a very cool secret society. Harry also has some idea now of what he wants to be when he grows up. I can't wait for the next book to see if he succeeds.
