Rating: Summary: This is a Good Book! Review: I didn't read The Pinballs when I was a kid but I do remember watching the movie on TV sometime in the 70's and I believe it was shown on TV as one of those ABC after school specials and from what I remember the movie was very good. I did manage to read the book a couple of years ago when I read my nephew's book and I must say that I really liked it and felt bad for Carlie, Harvey and Thomas J for all the rough times they went through and as I recall Carlie had an abusive step-father and Harvey had the alcoholic father who hit him with the car and broke his legs and Thomas J had no family except two little old ladies who were too old to take care of him any longer and they wound up in nursing homes so Carlie, Harvey and Thomas J wind up in a foster home together and form a bond. This is a really good book and I highly recommend it to anyone ages 10 and up.
Rating: Summary: I liked This Book! The Movie was Good Too! Review: I read The Pinballs several years ago and I thought it was a really good book. It is about three children in a foster home who have all had a rough life. They are two boys Thomas J. and Harvey and a girl named Carlie and I highly recommend this book. BTW: Sometime in the mid 70's this book was turned into a movie, it was part of The ABC After School Specials series and starred Kristy McNichol as Carlie and it is coming out on DVD in boxsets of The Afternoon Specials and I will definitely be buying it!
Rating: Summary: Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down Review: In the book we give the character, Carlie two thumbs up. The story is about three children living in a foster home with Mr. and Ms. Mason. Carlie cares about other people, and helps around the house. We like Carlie because she tried to help Harvey by saying, " You know, I can be a big help when there's a fight." Other kids should read about this character, because they could learn that they should care about people even though they dislike them.
Rating: Summary: 2 Thumbs Up and 2 Toes Up too! Review: The "Pinballs" is a wonderful book. It brings laughter, tears, and joy to the reader. Carlie, Thomas J., and Harvey - all are foster children sent to a foster home. Carlie was abused, Harvey's dad ran over his legs, and Thomas J. lived with older twins until they broke there hips. My student teacher read this book to me and the class in the fourth grade. We had activies to do with the book. This book is one of my favorites and will always be my favorite! If you like happy, sad, and fun moments, this book is for you! Please take my word for it! You will become keen to this book forever and ever and ever!
Rating: Summary: Bad Review: The Pinballs is a typical KIDS book. Those books teachers tells to read for English or Reading. Those typical books where in the end u learn a lesson.
This book is not bad, not good. it was really intersting and wasn't boring as i thought it would be. But i wouldn't say it's a page turner like other books i've read. how ever it wasn't bad and the end was really cool.
It's about 3 froster childern, each with their own problems.but in the end they were all happy. THAT kind of book. I recommend it to school teachers for 5th or 6th graders or just people who are searcing for a good book to read.
Rating: Summary: Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down Review: This delightful treasure was my first book that I ever read when I was in first grade ( in 1977 I think )from cover to cover. Being adopted I related to the authors messege of abondment buy my birth parents that I felt at the time. I am know 33 years of age now , and over the time span of 26 years reading over ( I would guess ) 300 books that I have read for pleasure. This one will always be my favorite. Because it opend my mind to the wonders of books that I still love today I would recomend this to any child for their first read especailly if the child is a foster child or adopted.
