Rating: Summary: Predictable Fun Review: Cuthbert certainly isn't breaking any new ground with her debut novel, but it is certainly a quick read, with good characterization and able action sequences. The plot is brilliant in theory, less so in its execution. It becomes apparent all too soon who is beyond the nefarious plot of inducing expectant mothers into premature labor.Admittedly, the novel is difficult to get into, and bears all the signs of a new author, but soon the plot gels and you'll be lost in its unfolding. While the denoument is predictable, you'll hang in there with main character Dr. Rae and with Cuthbert to see the villain get their comeuppance.
Rating: Summary: can we award a zero? Review: Cuthbert wrote a thrilling page turning novel called the The Silent Cradle in response to her mothers death in the back of an ambulance while giving birth. This is a mysterious fiction novel that helps Dr. Rae overcome the fear of her mother's death. Dr. Rae decided to become an OB/GYN because the help and reliailty on other nurses was poor. Saving the life of a woman who is having difficult birth defects is very important to her because of the tragic death she occured with her mother. Its amazing how anyone can be a doctor for the same reason your mother died and see the deaths of many women and babies each day. When a series of woman come in the hospital with serious complications, Dr. Rae is worried that the hospital is admitting patients that are to complicated for them to handle. I recommend this book to anyone that likes to read books with a lot of action and surprising endings. I rated this book a 4 because it used a distinct version of actions.

Rating: Summary: Oxytocin use in excess is real and fatal Review: I just got done reading this book. I actually have had to pick my jaw up from the floor. Having suffering a "rare spontaneous oxytocin" uterine rupture on a previously unscarred uterus has obviously had some personal affects on me. My son died, my uterus exploded like some of the characters and I almost didn't survive the delivery. I feel her research in this book to be truly amazing. Though you hear more and more of uterine ruptures it's still something that is very real and people should be aware of. Even if this book is fiction, it happens. Aside from the emotinal aspect for me, I would reccomend this book. I found it to be very suspense filled.

Rating: Summary: Intelligent Read for the Curious Mind Review: I love this novel, it not only keeps you guessing whudonit till the last page, it is also very stimulating intellectually. I have learned new medical terminologies that l would not under every day circumstances seek out. I will read Margaret's other books (if any)in a heartbeat and recommend it to all who has a curious mind. I thoroughly enjoyed it
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT!! A must read for Medical Thriller/Mystery lovers Review: Margaret Cuthbert's first novel is an excellent, on-the-edge of your seat medical thriller! I am an avid medical thriller and mystery reader and I can't believe the harshly negative reviews about this book (and no, I am not a friend of the author). If you find this book boring, I guess medical thrillers aren't for you. I am not a doctor, but I have a science background, an interest in medicine and lots of experience as a woman and patient. The story line is anything but boring and I actually felt that I was part of the story. Unfortunately things can go wrong with pregancy and delivery, certainly not this frequently at one hospital or for the reason Cuthbert uses (I hope not!), but this is a work of fiction and Cuthbert is an OB/GYN so the medical information is believable. Not only that, but Cuthbert's writing keeps you interested and hanging on to find out what's next. I loved this book! I can't wait for her next one and I'm disappointed that it's not released yet. I highly recommend this book to any medical thriller/mystery readers, especially if you're interested in women's medicine and the implications of managed care. If you like Robin Cook or enjoy watching ER, you'll love Margaret Cuthbert.
Rating: Summary: in need of better editing Review: pg 238
"....'Rae,' Bobbie said just before Rae closed the door.
Rae turned. In Bobby's hand..."
The chapter continues the inability to choose a spelling of this character's name for the next 2 pages. In 12 mentions of the name "Bobby/ie" it is spelled with a "y" a total of 8 times, and with an "ie" a total of 4 times.
Further towards the beginning of the book (pages 93-94) we have it spelled "ie" 4 times and with a "y" twice.
Had this book been better edited - with regards to minor typos as well as character devlopment, plot pacing, etc - it might not have been such a chore to read.
I think Ms. Cuthbert shows potential, but she should maybe be guided by the hands of a more capable editor. One or two typos in a book is excusable and I find them frequently, but any editor worth his/her red ink wouldn't have let these atrocities fly...
Rating: Summary: awful awful awful Review: This book has the most riveting emergency room scenes that I've read in a long time. Patients would go to the birth center with seemingly normal deliveries and end up at Berkley Hills hospital emergency room. Rae would spend her time trying to save their lives, find out who was behind this unheard of medical sabatoge and save her job. I read each page in anticipation, praying the responsible person would soon slip up. I did not get lost in the medical jargon, and would highly recommend this book. I would read this author again and again!
