Summary: Somewhat different!
Review: "Under the Lake" is one of Woods' earlier books, written long before his Stone Barrington series. We have a house that was buried when a rich developer decided to put in a lake; we have lots of incestuous relationships; we have a washed up reporter who takes on the autobiography of a chicken-chain store magnate; an undercover reporter out to expose a corrupt cop; a family of psychics who know everything; the ghost of a little girl who once lived in the now subterranean house; and all this in the little borough of Sutherland, Georgia. The critical endorsements by such authors as Stephen King indicate that this is "one of the most frightening books ...ever read..". I expected a lot more out of it, but once you get through the whole thing, you can look back on it and say it's a worthy ghost story. Some of the dialogue and situations are very strained, but there are a few surprises and plot twists that I did not expect. Not the chiller it claims to be, but worth a rainy night reading.

Summary: No the best but is good
Review: I am an argentinian men so I couldn't read all woods books. this is the last i have read and i think that it could be better. i am not saying that the book is bad, i like it.
i like this sensation of gothic and terror. i think that this book is not the best ( i prefer grass roots, heat, or dead eyes, santa fe rules or white cargo) but is better than L.A times or new york dead.

Summary: This was a great book!
Review: I bought this as an audio cassette to listen to while driving on a long trip. Kept me totally enthralled and awake. Even my husband, who hates these kinds of books, got caught up in it. It is a must read for Stuart Woods fans. It is very different than most of his more glitzy novels but I loved it!

Summary: Marvelous Book
Review: I first read "Under the Lake" 12 years ago. It is by far my favorite Stuart Woods book, and I rate it up there in my Top 5 books of all that I've ever read. This book is part mystery, part ghost story, part legend, part romance, and part history. Each of these aspects is perfectly written to make this an excellent book. To give away any of the plot would be an injustice to anyone who hasn't read this book. I know that I will never think of Lake Burton in Georgia the same way again.

Summary: not great, not bad
Review: Stephen King has some comments on the back of this book and he does as good a job of describing it as I ever could - he calls it "Part detective story, part ghost story, part Southern gothic." That pretty much describes it.

Summary: Haunting
Review: This book was great, well paced, great plot, great characters. Part crime mystery, part ghost story added up to a great read.
