Summary: Nice Audio Narration
Review: A Caress of Twilight continues the saga of Merry Gentry, Fey princess. When Merry and her gang are called upon to speak to an Seelie court exile, Maeve, little do they realize what they're getting into. Maeve holds a terrible secret which could spell death for Merry and friends. Their lives are further complicated when they are called to investigate a gruesome murder....

I really enjoyed A caress of Twilight. Merry is an engaging character and her men (with the exception of Kitto and Sage), very hot! I particularly like Rhys, and Hamilton's style of writing. Very descriptive and engaging. This writing syle is greatly enhanced by the narrators command of the English language, and ability to change her voice to match each character! Well done!

I did feel the ending was a bit rushed. I'd like to see Hamilton 'tie up the cases' in the actual story. I also am probably one of the few people in the world who find Kitto...A bit annoying. He seems to cower and shiver like Golum from Lord of the Rings. And the dog bed thing only enhances the fact that this character seems more of a pet than a person....Erkk... I much prefer Rhys and Doyle!

This was a fun sexy read. Due to mature content, I'd recommend for adults only. Viva la Merry!

Summary: I just want to be done...
Review: A friend gave me the first book in this series, I liked it a lot. So I picked up the second one figuring it would tie up all the loose ends and finish the story.... I was wrong... Onto book three, where nothing at all happens as far as plot. When do we get answers to anything that happened in book one? Why is this story being draw out so far? I doubt I'll read book four, unless it's the last one, the story wasn't that good.

Summary: Like eating frosted donuts
Review: A sexy book, yes, but weak, plot-wise. I'm not a big fan of Hamilton's prose, as I feel that she oftentimes spend too much time saturating her characters' dialogue with superfluous description than just delivering the points. I have a feeling the book wouldn't have had half as many pages if she hadn't described every single piece of dialogue or action with no less than fifty words. Despite that, the novel was entertaining to read and has interesting characters. I find myself rooting for a certain character now to win her affections (and the throne) and am intrigued enough to buy the next sequel.

Summary: Just as bad as the first
Review: As the title states, this is just as godawful as the first one of these drawn out soft-porn 'novels'.

Simplistic, poorly written, and ultimately pointless trash.

It's like, watching (the worst) soap/sitcom/reality-tv nonstop for like, a whole month, y'know?

Summary: Great read ...although a little unoriginal.
Review: Enter into the Faerie world of Princess "Merry" who is currently in competition for the Unseelie throne. Merry is actually a fascinating character that is coming into her own powers as a faerie and understanding what it means to be a ruler. (If you loved Anita Blake you won't be disappointed with the female protagonist here.)

The political drama in here is very high with 2 worlds (Seelie and Unseelie) contesting each other for power. Merry is tied to both worlds but stands to inherit the Unseelie throne. There is a huge mystery surrounding the relationships Merry has to the characters involved that is cleverly revealed through the political dealings Merry has to endure.

The sex is also at a high level since Merry can only inherit the throne when she becomes pregnant. As a result she has 5 lovers living with her. These men are more than simply concubines however, since they were once worshiped as gods themselves. The scenes are a bit graphic but not overwhelming as the later Anita Blake novels became.

The plot has several twists and well developed characters which make the book a fantastic read. I gave it four stars because a lot of the catch phrases were recycled from the Anita Blake series. The crime scenes are also set up in a way that was a bit too familiar. Overall LKH has definitely paved the way for an exciting series.

Summary: Woot!!
Review: I love the Anita Blake series. The first 4-5 books were great.. and yes, she has slumped a little in introducing new and interesting scenerios and character development HOWEVER no one can match this author for imagination and I'll happily continue looking forward to each Anita Blake book.

This is now my favorite series of hers though. Merry is a great character. The only stumbling block I have with her is her mortality. I sort of wish she was immortal. The Seelie and Unseelie courts are described more in depth in this second book. The various fay men who are Merry's guards are great! I'm half in love with Doyle and Frost. There is plenty of paranormal activity, action and adventure as well as romance, sex, violence, twists and turns.

Hopefully Merry won't get pregnant for a few books so I (we) can keep enjoying the assortment of consorts she's with in these first two...

If you like Laurell you should check out Charlaine Harris. Noone can compare with this (the Gentry books) series (in my opinion) but they sure are a fun read and help the wait until the next Hamilton books comes out.

Summary: Great second part of the Merry Gentry series!
Review: I sort of abandoned this series when I discovered Anita Blake's world, so reading about Merry Gentry after reading five Anita Blake novels was a refreshing change of pace. Merry Gentry, the sexy, sassy faerie princess-slash-L.A. private detective, is back for another dangerous and erotic adventure. Bearing a child is the only way Merry can beat Prince Cel to the thrown, so she sets out to conceive a baby with various warriors of her royal guard. If her life weren't complicated enough, there is a series of mysterious, gruesome deaths that endanger the faerie world. Could the deaths be connected with the exiled Hollywood faerie goddess Merry has agreed to help? And will Merry bear the child that's needed to be Queen? There are various twists throughout the novel...

A Caress of Twilight, like A Kiss of Shadows, is full of erotic scenes and wonderful suspense. Merry is quite an earnest female character that isn't afraid of her sexuality and of acknowledging her harem. I do like this heroine very much. She isn't as tough as Anita Blake, but she isn't as self-righteous as the aforementioned character either, which is refreshing. I was also glad to get reacquainted with her bodyguards, especially Doyle and Rhys. I've noticed that Doyle is the Jean-Claude of this series -- a dark and sensual character whose feelings for Merry are noble. He is quite irresistible. Laurell K. Hamilton has once again written an enthralling fantasy novel that I couldn't put down. I cannot recommend A Caress of Twilight enough!

Summary: Something's Missing......
Review: I've been a huge fan and follower of the Laurell K. Hamilton's work for several years. After reading the first book of this new series, I was looking forward to the next installment. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with this book.

As I read this book, I kept trying to figure out what was missing, then it finally hit me, the plot was missing! Most of the book consisted of their preparations, discussions and arguing. When the "big" fight seen did finally come, it was way at the end and quite anti-climactic.

I'll probably try the next book in this series just to see if it improves. If not, I'll be sticking with my favorite heroine, Anita Blake.

Summary: Great tale - not for the 'fairy' folk.
Review: Merry is a Fey princess who lives in an alternate USA where all sorts of creatures from the fairy realm live alongside mortals. But Merry is also half human and now has become the co-heir to the Unseelie throne with her cousin Prince Cel. Cel has tried to kill her before and will again. To gain the throne either Merry or Cel must sire an heir.

Merry is now obliged to make love to the select Queens Guard in the hope of having a child. The Guard are all immortal fey with their own long history that is becoming evident with each novel. They are not just 'studs' but once were much more. While the story has many erotic and sensual scenes, it remains a great read with well written plot elements and characters that are the central elements of a good book.

If starting to read this series go back and get the first book as it explains some of the various convoluted characters that surround Merry. Not everything in Fairie is as it seems and everything and everyone have their own game.

But Merry is not just a cute half-fairy Princess she packs weapons and magic and is not afraid to use either. Novel by novel the characters are developing and the overall tale is evolving.

It is so engrossing that I read it in less than a day - I couldn't wait to find out the end and now am waiting impatiently for the next story to find out what will happen next.

Summary: Good, but it felt like a filler book...(3 1/2 stars)
Review: This is my least favorite book by LKH thus far. Thats not to say that A Caress of Twilight was a bad book, but it was nowhere near as entertaining as I wanted it to be. It defnitely had the feel of an in between book. It wouldnt really stand alone and I dont think I would have tolerated it as well if I wasnt already so deeply rooted in the story from the previous book. I felt that the lack of characterization was very apparent in this second title. LKH depended too heavily upon physical descriptions and didnt delve deep enough into the core of the main characters IMO. As for the plot, it basically is still following what began in the first installment, but nothing really happens in ACOT until the ending. Still, I cant stop here. I plan on reading the 3rd book ASAP and I also am anxiously awaiting the next installment in the Anita Blake series which I think is far superior to the Merry Gentry books. Basically, this wasnt a keeper, but it is a definite must read for any fan of the series.
