Summary: GREAT BOOK!
Review: My 10 year old son read this book for school - and the rest of the family ended up reading it, too! We all learned a little more about the American Revolution and the "normal" day-to-day life of those not directly fighting in the war. There is some violence and rough language, but it is not overdone or overwhelming, and seems quite appropriate for the setting. We all really enjoyed this book!

One more note - if you happen to live in Connecticut, you can visit the Putnam Memorial State Park in Redding, which is on the site of the 1779 encampment. After you visit the museum and walk around the park, travel down Route 58 to the churchyard on the corner of Cross Highway. We found gravesites of members of the Meeker family, and Captain Betts, who lived to a ripe old age after the Revolutionary War.

Summary: My Brother Sam Is Dead
Review: My Brother Sam is Dead by James Lincoln Collier and Christopher Collier is a five star book. This book was a page turner. The book was thrilling and exciting.
It's 1777 and the Revolutionary war is taking place. In a Tory town called Redding there is a family made of a father, a mother, and two sons Sam, and Tim. When Sam leaves his home to fight in the war as a Patriot Tim finds himsef in a daze. He can't decide which side he's on. He could be like his father and be a loyalist. He could be like Sam and be a Patriot. Also, there's his mother, who didn't pick a side. Will Tim's family reunite or will they lose dear friends.
I love how you felt mad, sad, and happy at the same time. At times I found myself talking, shouting, and even crying for the characters. I know they weren't real, but they had real feelings.
When I read this book I knew Tim and his family had some hardships and I could ever be that brave. Tim tried to help his family even if it meant death.

Summary: War isn't what Tim expected!
Review: Sam Meeker is off to fight in the Revolutionary War on the American's side. His family are Tories and they live in Redding Ridge. His father is outraged by Sam's decision, but cannot stop him. This leaves his younger brother, Tim, and his mother ad father to work in the tavern and tend to the crops. Life is not easy with the war going on, but is manageable. Sam pays visits to Redding often.
British and American troops march into Redding frequently. This does not interfere with the Meeker family. Until, one night Sam was paying a visit to his family. He saw that the cows were being stolen, so he went outside to stop them. The men captured Sam...Find out what happens when you read "My Brother Sam is Dead." If you like historical fiction this is the book for you!

Review: The book "My Brother Sam Is Dead" is a very heart-warming book. It is about family who is broken up by the Revolutionary War. The father is on the British side while his son, Sam, is fighting for the Patriots. It is very dramatic and has some older language. It is also gory and intense. This book is very descriptive in its war parts, which is awesome.

Review: The book ends very sad. The middle part of the book is super suspense. In the beggining of the book is very complicated. I would really suggest you to read it. Very very very easy to understand kind of book.

Summary: A great suspense book to read.
Review: The book that I read was My Brother Sam is Dead. I read this book in my seventh grade English class. My 7th grade English teacher picked this book out. My Brother Sam is Dead is during the Revolutionary War.. My Brother Sam is Dead was about a boy named Sam. Sam is 16 years old and lives in a tavern. When you turn 16, during this time, you are considered a man. Sam wanted to go to fight for freedom against the British. Sam's dad, Mr. Meeker, was a Loyalist. Sam's dad did not want Sam to go off to war. Sam disobeyed him and went anyway. My Brother Sam is Dead is about a family in conflict because they support different sides of the war. The reader gets to know all members of the family and their opinions. After reading the book you still don't know what side you would have been on - I was sure I would be a Patriot, but after reading the book, I'm not so sure. I think that this book is a great book. The book has many setting changes that make it better than most. I also liked the book because it was teaching me many things about the Revolutionary War that I didn't know. When I started to read the book it was not very good. But as the story go on, and after the class started to talk about it, I liked it more. I think that it is a good historical fiction book for a class to read. This book has inspired me to read more historical fiction.

Summary: Historical-fiction book
Review: This book was an assigned as a 7th grade Knglish assignement. The teacher chose to read. Our class read this book in the fall of 1999. I read the most part of this book at home. I think this book is more of a kick back relax sort of book.

This book is an historical-fiction which takes place in the Revolutionary War. The story gives the point of view of a young boy whose brother goes off to fight in the war. The boy is faced with a challenge, in which he has to decide whether to be a Patriot like his brother or a loyalist like his father. This book has a political conflict, character conflict, and a personal conflict. This book is a good example of irony because what I was expecting didn't happen. With the way the book started I didn't expect this ending.

I liked this book because it kept you on the edge of you seat. It keeps the reader interested by throwing corners at you when you least expect it. It taught me about a historical period. It gave examples of how those people were living in those conditions. I thought it was good book because it told you everything you wanted to know about that period.
