Rating: Summary: Insightful look into the Toys in your Toybox Review: I can see why some people might think that Phillips is mad - just look at what he does to our time honored toys. But perhaps, just maybe, it's time to look at the stories behind the toys and the men and women that make them.Let's look at one of Philllips' examples. He goes into great detail about "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" (yes, I know, this cartoon has been off the air for years, but it is a good example of Phillips' writing, and a good example of what to look for in occult influenced children's shows). He-Man always says: "By the Power of Greyskull - I have the Power!" But Christians know that only thru Jesus do we have power. The "Sorceress" has many magical powers always seemingly used for good. But it is still magic, and magical spells are specifically forbidden by the Bible. Even the title of the show, "Masters of the Universe" implies that these creations are the masters of the universe, when we Christians know that the true Master of the Universe is God. Phillips mentions "Smurfs", "Gummie Bears", "Care Bears", "My Little Pony", and "Rainbow Brite" as all containing some magic, whether used for good or ill doesn't matter. It is allowing our children to be exposed to magic and the fact that it "can be used for good". Many of today's children's shows are far worse. Many modern toys also have a occult influence - just go down the aisles of any Toy store near you and look at the action figure row - you'll find such things as "Spawn" (go look up the definition of "spawn" in the dictionary) and other even more horrible looking things. Phillips speaks about the subtle ways that children can be influenced by the magic and sorcery that is a great deal of children's programming - and "programming" is a good word for it when it is being used to program our children into being more accepting of magic and the occult. Far more interesting is Phillips' condemnation of our use of the television as an "electronic baby sitter". He quotes such sources as The American Academy of Pediatrics to back up his claim that watching televised violence, whether real or fictional, can make children both more violent and more accepting of real-life violence. I urge anyone reading this to pick up a copy of this book and read it with an open mind. BTW, for the last person on the review list, "Pokemon" is definitely occult. There are references to "air", "earth", "fire", and "water" powers - all of which are magical spell elements. Each Pokemon has these powers which they use to get their owners out of a jam. This encourages using magic to escape from your problems, when we are told to trust in God to help us through our difficulties. Take a good look at "Pokemon" and compare it to the more "adult" game "Magic - The Gathering" and you will eventually make the discovery, like I did, that Pokemon is just "Magic the Gathering" for smaller kids. The only thing I wish is that Phillips would take the time to update this book. Many of the children's toys and shows he mentions have been off the air for years. Many of the replacement shows for kids are far worse than the apparently "cute and cuddly" shows of yesteryear.
Rating: Summary: A MAD GENUIS! Review: I'm a HUGE Phil Phillips fan, this man is a mad genuis. This book is second to only apacolypse culture in my nonfiction section. Even the Cabbage Patch kids can't escape Phillips knowing gaze! Just like his Halloween and Satanism book there isn't a fact to be had instead you get a sneak peek into a mind disturbed and twisted from years of Christianity and repressed guilt. Highly recommended for aspiring psychologists with no patients to practice on and fans of Freud.
Rating: Summary: This Dude Is A Whack Review: My parents read this book when I was a kid and made me and my siblings clean out our toyboxes. This dude is a whack, as are his ideas. I was forced to throw out toys that I liked and had bought with my own money and the fact that my parents took his advice helped me to grow up despising God and church and all that. The supermarket tabloids have better advice than this guy. Unless you need a book to show how whacked some "Christians" can get, don't waste money on this book.

Rating: Summary: Ridiculous Religious Propaganda Review: One thing I am sure of by reading this book is that I would have dreaded to be this man's child. Phil Phillips has taken basically every toy that I grew up with, and stated how "evil" they are and that Christian parents should not allow their children to own such toys. I find his most of his accusations to be nothing short of ridiculous. It seems almost as if he had nothing better to do with his time and decided to write this horrid piece of literature. I find he has contradicting statements throughout his book (read pg. 29 carefully, for example) and many of his statements are childish and have nothing to back them up. He uses "rainbows" as an example of "new age influence"!!! Why did he automatically *assume* that the usage of a rainbow in a cartoon (rainbow bright) had a "new age" meaning? It astounds me how he comes to these outrageous conclusions. Here is a quote from pg.94: "How cute will they think these very actions are when the child is a teen and is involved in actual occult practices?" As I mentioned before, I grew up with these toys and never once has it crossed my mind to become involved with the occult. In his book, Phil states how it is good for children to have imagination......yet with no toys to play with, how can he expect them to be able to exercise their imaginations? Because, according to Phil, EVERYTHING has *some* influence of the occult and children should have no part of it! His reasoning behind warning parents about Cabbage Patch dolls is because children think of them to "realisitically." GIVE ME A BREAK! This book is filled with such spineless accusations that it's a complete joke. Stop blaming the toys and start encouraging the parents to get more involved with their children. Phil fails to realise that not everyone in this world shares in his faith. Therefore, just because a show/toy does not have God as it's central figure and does not exemplify all the Christian principles....it does NOT mean that people should refrain their children from having fun with toys that appeal to them. Parents shouldn't be afraid to talk to their children about the cartoons they watch of the toys they play with. TALK to them.....don't bar them from having fun with them.
Rating: Summary: Disgusting Review: That is one messed up author, and the people who believe his *censored* are just as messed up. I do believe this author had a deprived, and loveless childhood. I see no other psychological reason at the madness he spews into this so-called book other than simply having too much time on his hands. Wake up, Mr. Phil Phillips! THEY ARE CARTOONS! Make-believe! Do you know what that is? This is just a prime example of a person trying to get everyone to follow their religion, or you'll be damned.
Rating: Summary: Ridiculous Religious Propaganda Review: There's simply no way I can really tell you how I feel about this book ...But, I will try. I grew up in the 80's, watching the aforementioned cartoons and playing with many of the toys pictured on the cover. The fact that this ill informed fundamentalist wants to "keep" parents from allowing their children to play with such "Satanic" characters is not only a bit humorous, it's also pretty sad. Guess what Mr. Phillips - it's 2002. No longer an era in which screenwriters are ousted for supposed "communism" and no time for Puritan beliefs and ridiculous crusades. What you guys need to be focusing on is love, tolerance and acceptance. This is something, however, that fundamentalists will NEVER grasp. Don't subject your children to this suffocating propaganda.
Rating: Summary: Two stars for entertainment purposes only Review: This is a book that will make you laugh for sure. I am reminded of Bobby Bouchet's mother in the movie The Waterboy. Everything he enjoys is made by "the devil". So it is with this book. Anyone who would attribute this much power and influence to satan must not think very much of God or his sovereignty. This book is an unecessary waste of paper. I appreciate the author's concern but this is going off of the deep end.
Rating: Summary: Phil Phillips, I commend you! Review: What Phil Phillips failed to realize is that fantasy is ONLY fantasy. Nothing More. Have you ever seen an interview with a death row inmate who said "Yeah, I watched "He-man and the Masters of the Universe" and I wanted to be like Skeletor so one night I sold my soul to Satan and chopped my parents to death while they slept with a butcher knife I found." Phillips failed to give one case for any subject he covered except for "Dungeons and Dragons" where one person turned to evil because of these mediums. The 1980's was a time when a lot of new technology was developed but it was also a time of problems. the cold War, the AIDS crisis. Many programs wanted to present a fantasy world to kids where the good guys always won in the end: "Transformers" "Masters of the Universe" "G.I. Joe" because they rightly realized that many children would see the news on TV about disease and Nukes and be affected by it. These shows offered a way of escaping the problems of society for half an hour. I would however like to see phil phillips write A "Turmoil In the ToyBox 3" He could discuss 'Pokemon" "Harry Potter" "Power rangers" "Spawn" and others, these toys do present a prblem to children...
