Summary: There is a Plot...
Review: As a Tami Hoag fan, I found this book to have a slow start. The storyline tempts the reader and lays ideas that "something" has happened to both of the main characters, Jack and Laurel; however, it is slow at revealing what the "something" is. Unlike Hoag's other books which starts off with a murder mystery, the first half of the book delves into a the love story part of the plot. Because I enjoy Hoag for the Who-Dunnit stories, I felt that the first half dragged on. Not a bad read, but does not measure up to my favorite, A Thin Dark Line. Both Cry Wolf and A Thin Dark Line take place in South Louisiana, a place that is near and dear to my heart.

Summary: Not Sure Who Is Stupider
Review: Between our "heroine" and "hero", Ms. Hoag has created two thoroughly unlikeable characters. Laurel is weak and silly and Jack is just a jerk. It's enough for Jack to be an insufferable, insolent weasel, but for Laurel to find this appealing--down to smooching him after he risks her life and wrecks her sister's car by driving like a high school sophomore--made me decide I don't care what happens to her. She put the icing on the cake by kowtowing to a mother whom we already know by chapter 5 is at best neglectful, at worst abusive. Her mental problems don't excuse this sort of babyishness. I gave up the book after 7 chapters and am only sorry I wasted two nights trying to read it. It might be interesting to see Reverend Bigmouth get his comeuppance, but it's not worth dredging through the rest of the schlock.

Summary: Disappointed - not the mystery thriller I expected
Review: I gave up half way through - way too much I love you - No I hate you sappy romance and pathetic sex sequences. By mid-book there was no murder mystery thatI had expected. Not worth the time it takes to get to the point. Tami Hoag should just stick with the murder mystery stuff and forget the romance - or at list keep it to a minimum.

Review: I really enjoyed this book. It was fast paced and had the perfect mix of romance and suspense. Characters were very well developed. Great story location, plot and surprise ending. Hoag describes scenes better than most authors. Would definatley recommend.

Review: I thought this one was a pretty good book, though it didn't talk a whole lot about the murders. It had more romance than mystery in it which made the cover a little misleading.

Summary: Sultry Southern setting ... a tad too much romance
Review: I've just re-read "Cry Wolf" (while waiting for Tami's latest book). A good plot, good read. I love Tami's writing, especially her novels set in Louisiana. She can bring the whole area alive to her readers in other cities and countries. More than any other author I've read. I love the Cajun French, the atmosphere (one can almost hear, smell, taste and feel all of it). I've read all her novels (except the "Loveswept" stuff). Don't get me wrong! ... I'm a real romantic like most red-blooded, heterosexual females ... as well as a fan of the mystery/crime/thriller genre and most of "Cry Wolf" is good ... but nothing can touch "A Thin Dark Line". In my opinion, her best ever novel set in Louisiana. Just the right amount of sexual tension/actual sex, between the protagonists who NEVER lose sight of their mutual main objective. If you're looking for what I've described ... read it before "CW"!!

Summary: Worth Reading for the Atmosphere Alone
Review: Tami Hoag deserves an A+ for her wonderful evocation of the Louisiana swampland in this thriller. The town, people, and the spooky swamp itself have all stayed in my mind weeks after I finished the novel. Another great feature of the work is its sexy Cajun hero, Jack. Most of the time, he's a real charmer. This said, Cry Wolf has one serious failing in my view: it places far too much attention on what proves to be a tedious romance. From the beginning, it's obvious who will get involved with whom. The novel is seriously marred by these characters' long monologues and incessant conversations about "why we shouldn't be romantically involved," even though it's crystal clear that the romantic relationship is good for both partners. Jack's puerile moments of insecurity are particularly irritating - they don't fit his character. He is very appealing in his confidence, but exceedingly dull in his moments of insecurity. I would have appreciated it if the leading couple had tormented each other less and enjoyed each other more - especially since the steamy love scenes are quite well-written. As a thriller, the novel is OK. It's rather obvious whodunit, but the killer's motives are not immediately apparent. Overall, Cry Wolf offers a good read, but it is NOT for those who can't stomach sappy romances full of pointless game-playing.

Review: This book does not live up to Tami Hoag's standards. I thought it was a new book but it is written like a romance and hyped as a mystery. It is full of goopy hate-love senarios that are soooooo boring. I bought the audio book which was quite expensive and I am very sorry.

Review: this book was great, I read it in just a few sittings, the characters a very similar to other hoag's people, but still compelling. I highly recomend this book, if you likes lucky's lady you will not be dissapointed
