Rating: Summary: Scripture? Say WHAT???? Review: A book that makes THE BOOK accessible. I must admit that the "Idiot's Guide" is at times irreverant. It's also funny. Sometimes, I found it even uproarious. But at no time was it ever inaccurate. Now, let's take this from the top. Accurate, accessible, ierreverant, and funny. The Bible? Well, excuse ME, but what's not too like? After a life time of religious study, inquiry, and debate, comes along this little book, that says "Read me," before "Rever me." I read it, and suddenly, I find myself looking up passages, laughing, and praying again for the humility, "God, I misunderstood. . .thanks for showing me the way." This book got me back into the Bible, back into honest religious inquiry, and into spiritual seeking and honesty. . .and having fun with it. BUY THIS BOOK. And if you don't have a Bible to accompany this hilarious journey, get one! Amazon allows only five stars. This volume deserves a whole galaxy!

Rating: Summary: I never knew the Bible could be such a page turner! Review: Anyone with even the slightest curiosity about the Bible MUST get this book. If seeing Mel Gibson's Passion movie made you ask questions like, "I didn't know Pontius Pilate had a wife?" and "Someone helped Jesus carry the Cross, really?" then you will not be disappointed with this great read.
Rating: Summary: Good Introduction Review: Before reading this I wasn't familiar with many of the stories of the Old Testament prophets and I feel as though I did learn alot from here. This book briefly covers the main stories and layout of the Old and New Testament. Like all of The Idiot's Guides it provides trivia facts and "did you know" chunks of information in a humorous fashion. Yes, the authors do intrepret some of the verses conservatively so keep that in mind while reading this.
Rating: Summary: Guide through the Bible Review: Do not let the title full you, "The Complete Idiot's Guide to The Bible" is not just for dummys, I assure you. It takes all the major stories, poems (or psalms), and parables, and explains them in a way that the modern, casual reader can understand. Come on guys, let's face it, the Bible is a very hard book to understand. You can read it many times and never get all it's meaning. It is made clear from the begining that this "Guide" is not a substitute for reading the Bible, it is just a source to understand it better. I read it pretty quickly, and came away with better understanding than I could have achieved on my own. "Guide" is not all inclusive, it dose a lot of skipping, and sometimes just glances over some of the stuff I wanted to know about (I wanted to know a little more about the apostles), but for compensation, it dose cover the time between the Old Testement and New. It gives a little insight into some of the groups around in Jesus's day; very interesting. Like I said, it dosn't go over everything, but it dose make you (or at least me) want to look for more information. I liked it, and I hope you will too.

Rating: Summary: Great Introductory Text Review: Do you find yourself wondering where to start in regards to studying or making sense of the bible? This is a perfect resouce if that is the case. If you feel an urge to know more about the bible and you want to know where to start, this is a great place. Time after time I run into people who start reading the bible in Genesis and by the time they get to Leviticus they are lost. This text will give you a better idea of where to start and what it means, and what the bible is trying to accomplish. By no means a hermenuetical masterpiece, this book does not need to be. It is useful and effective. B Joseph Dworak
Rating: Summary: Great starter for the Bible Review: I learned so much from this book. I can actually have an intelligent conversation about the stories of the Bible now! This book is written in our language, and is easy to follow. It is so interesting, I couldn't put it down. I followed along in my KJV Bible and the Idiots Guide is right on the money. Now I feel like I can begin to read the Bible with more understanding.
Rating: Summary: I very much liked this book Review: It fills a much needed role in the modern library, as there are far too few books helping to spread the word of God among complete idiots. Too long has the idiot community suffered without faith or proper churchifying of any sort. But no longer, thanks to this revised edition of the idiot's guide.
My only complaint is that this publisher also prints an "Idiot's Guide to the Kama Sutra." While it's all well and good to encourage the mentally-handicapped to take a healthy interest in Christ, I don't think it's socially responsible to encourage them to breed overmuch.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Review: The Idiot books manage to pack in lots of info, with sidebars and so on mixed in throughout the book. Every area of the Bible is well-covered. I have kept this as my Bible reference book. The chapter on the Book of Revelation is the first place I've ever seen someone make any sense out of it!
