Rating: Summary: I was riveted Review: Wow. I just finished reading "A Thousand Acres" a 1/2 hour ago. Because so many reviews have given the basic plot, I'll simply share my thoughts/feelings on the book. It was amazing, to me. I was horrified and riveted and disgusted and simply glued to the pages until I was done reading it. Admittedly, growing up on the South Dakota farm probably colored my view of this type of book quite a bit. I don't know what it'd be like to read a book containing this much farm-life detail, if one hadn't grown up in the that setting. I subconsciously made parallels between my childhood & that of the 3 sisters in the book--and though my family has it's issues, I finished the book feeling so relieved at how calm & "normal" my family is in comparison! To me, "A Thousand Acres" is truly a tragic, thought-provoking book worth taking the time to read. I'm glad I discovered it, for a quarter, at a local garage sale last week.
