Rating: Summary: A bumpy but fun ride Review:
This book is called The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman. This book is a realistic fiction novel. Mr. Fleischman also wrote another book called The Abracadabra: A Writer's Life. I thought this book was a great book for kids. Although I thought this was a good book, I would give it a 3 out of 5.This isn't my favorite type of genre but that's the only reason why I would give that rating.
The plot in this story was about two boys, Prince "Brat" and Jemmy. There is Prince "Brat" which is a nickname because he is so naughty. Then, there is Jemmy, The Whipping Boy. When ever Prince "Brat "is naughty Jemmy gets whipped because royalty isn't aloud to get whipped. But, one foggy summer night both the Prince Brat and Jemmy escape from the castle. But, there was an interruption now Hold-Your-Nose-Billy and Cuttwater are trying to capture Prince "Brat" and Jemmy so they can give them to the king for money. Will Jemmy and Prince "Brat" ever get to the end of their journey safely???
These characters are definitely believable because they don't have perfect lives. If you read the book you realize that in the end Prince "Brat" says that he will sleep without a candle lit. Also in the book Jemmy gets whipped for when Prince "Brat " ties all the wigs to the back of other royal peoples chairs and it says that Jemmy was sent to the castle after both of his parents died. That's why there so believable because there lives aren't perfect.
I thought that the setting was really detailed. It says in the book that it was so foggy that they couldn't see anything not it was very foggy. I liked that they say that the royal people were dinning in the Royal Dinning area not just in the dinning. I was glad because I could where there were at in my head so it made me understand the story better.
I would give this book a 7 out of 10 because I'm not that found of this type of genre. Although, I did enjoy the book. I would recommend this book because I think that it's a great book of the whole family. So if you have a Family Reading Night and are looking for a book this would be a great book to read.
Rating: Summary: Great Book -The Whipping Boy by Akshay Belur Review: Join Jemmy and Prince Brat in their exciting adventure out of the kingdom and into the world. This great book contains awesome action about the prince and Jemmy getting kidnapped for ransom and how they try to escape. During their adventure they meet many people who are smart and helpful. The Whipping Boy is also fun because the tricks they play on the villains will make you laugh. The setting is in a world a long time ago. If you want to read a great book in about a night read this book. Prince Horace is called Prince Brat because he is very mischievous. So the king calls Jemmy, an orphan boy, to get whipped instead of the prince because no one is allowed to whip the prince. The prince gets bored in the castle and decides to run away and brings Jemmy with him. They meet up with Hold-Your-Nose Billy and Cutwater, who are thieves. These bad guys kidnap the prince and Jemmy and they think Jemmy is the prince because the real prince cannot write. That helps the prince and Jemmy escape. Then they meet Petunia, a dancing bear tamer and Captain Nips a salesman. Read the book to see if get back to the palace. I think this story was good because it is pretty hilarious. For example the bad guys almost got eaten by rats. I also liked it because it was not a story with sorrow or unhappiness but it is an exciting adventure. This book has no violence. Another reason I like it is that it is set in the Medieval Age. I would recommend this book for ages seven and up. Review by Akshay Belur
Rating: Summary: Whipping boy Review: Sid Fleischman's book, "The Whipping Boy" is about a king who will not punish his son so he has another child who gets whipped and punished instead of the prince. The prince deiced one day that he could not take getting in trouble and having the whipping boy get punished for his wrong doings. One night the prince deiced to run away with the whipping boy. On there journey they get captured by "Hold-Your-Nose-Billy," and Cutwater. The criminals deiced that they are going to keep them hostage. Jemmy did not like the prince to much because he had to take all of the punishment for all of those bad things that he did. Since they both got captured they had to become friends with each other, even though jimmy was from the lower class of people and the prince was from the upper class of people they had to get along. The whipping boy thinks of a plan, his plan is to escape to the sewers. The prince on the other hand does not think that it would be a good idea because he has never been in the sewers. The whipping boy has been in the sewers his life before becoming a whipping boy. Jemmy used to trap and sell rats that were in the sewer that does how he now all of the turns and different things. The prince and the whipping boy are trying to get along, become friends, and break though the barriers that are between them. The prince is finding out how Jemmy used to live, also the prince is coming immune to Jemmys life. The prince and the whipping boy are starting to take responsibility for there own actions. The prince does not like how Jemmy used to live. They find interest in each other. The prince is getting used to how Jemmy had to live. They finally deiced that they have had enough of the kidnapper. Jemmy told the prince to follow me and they went though the tunnels. They finally get away though the tunnel because of how well Jemmy knew the tunnels. The prince did not want to go though the tunnels because he did not think that Jemmy did not know them until Jemmy showed him that he could get through them. I thought that is was a very good idea for the prince and "The Whipping Boy" finally deiced to run away. I would have not liked being the whipping boy. I liked this book very much and I really do not like to read. I thought that it was easy for younger kids to understand to. I really liked this book.
Rating: Summary: Kidnappers! Bears! & Rats! Review: The book that I am reviewing is The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman. One thing that I can tell you about the book is that there is a lot of action and another is that it's funny. In fact that it why I liked the book; because there was so much action. I think that books that have a lot of excitement and action are the best. That's what makes this a good book.
Here are some examples of exciting moments in the story. The prince ran away from the castle and took his whipping boy along. Two highwaymen, Hold-your-nose Billy and Cutwater, tried to rob the two boys in the story until they found out that one of the boys was a prince. Then the robbers decided to hold the prince for a ransom. The boys finally escape but keep getting caught again and again by the two cut throats.
Another time, after the two boys had escaped from Billy and Cutwater, they hid in the sewers under the street to keep from being caught. Billy and Cutwater followed Jemmy and the Prince into the sewers but all they found were rats, really big rats. The rats attacked the men and chased them out of the sewers.
If you like funny stories and a lot of action you should read this book

Rating: Summary: Wonderful Tale of Friendship Review: The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman is a wonderful book which certainly deserved its Newbery Medal in 1987. The Whipping Boy is an adventure story. Its is set around the 1700's. The main characters are Jemmy, the royal whipping boy who is very street-wise, and Prince Brat, the spoiled heir to the throne. It starts when Prince Brat runs away from home, and Jemmy (even hating him) goes along. The two do not have very much in common. Jemmy is intelligent, has common sense, and has no breaks. Prince Brat is ignorant, is spoiled, and is heir to the kingdom. The two do have their adventures in common, though. They face enemies like the hilarious Hold-Your-Nose Billy and Cutwater, and they have to overcome personal short-comings. Through their experiences, the two learn a few things about themselves and their own characters, and they learn a lot about friendship. The Whipping Boy is a fabulous adventure which is worth reading. There is also a little bit within the story very much worth reading. The Whipping Boy is a great read for children and adults, and it will go down as a classic.

But luckily Tosher one of Jemmy's friend from the streets leads those highway theifs the wrong way into a bunch of big sewer rats who attack them then finally the prince and Jemmy decied to go back to the castle and they learn there lesson from running away. The reason I don't like it is because a prince would never runaway and it wasn't to intresting. This was my summary.
