Summary: Highly recommended, but quite sad.
Review: I'm a big fan of Bodie and Brock Thoene, and this is definitely a great book. It's sadder and more emotional than the other Thoene Books I've read (Zion Chronicles 1-3) and Saga of the Sierras. It also doesn't end as happily as most of the others, but it is still an emotionally gripping and touching story. It's got the everpresent undercurrent of Christianity, as do all her books, with out an in your face witness that would turn off secular readers. Highly recommended, and a good gift book.

Summary: Try the audio book for even liver characters!
Review: I'm a bookmobile librarian out of rural Arkansas. Contrary to popular belief, librarians don't have much time to read. Instead, I listened to the audio book. It was read by a man who tried to change his voice for the characters. It really helped the characters jump to life in your ear! I felt like I heard 10 Little House on the Prairie episodes wrapped into one book. I kept picturing Caroline Jensen, the store owner, as old Mrs. Olsen on the Little House on the Prairie. If you love Little House and good winning over evil even though you have to go through tough times, then you'll love this book.

Also I would like to make a comment about the authors name. I had read in one of the books that is was pronounced: Ta-Nay and then the audio book reader pronounced it totally different. It looks to be German and could be pronounced: Turn-eh. Just curious. Love to hear Brodie or Brock's personal review.

Summary: Description brings the Depression era to light!
Review: The Thoenes are master writers/historians. Shiloh Autumn brings to life even day-by-day, mundane activities! The plot is very deep, engrossing, and surprising. This book will make you feel heartache, joy, hunger (for food and for the Lord!), and love. I highly recommend this book to anyone who may need to see that their life may not be as bad as others' lives now and throughout history. The characters, events, and era were as brightly described as if you were actually laboring and laughing right along with them! A must read!

Summary: Add this keeper to your Home library!
Review: Where do I begin? This book, as each and every one of The Thoene's are, had me feeling unusually emotional. I had goosebumps and tears. I laughed out loud. These authors are so addictive I have bought every series they have written. My husband does not care to read, so I buy the cassette tapes and we listen to them while driving on trips. The characters feel like your own friends. The style of writing is so engrossing that it's hard to get into other books after reading theirs. I find myself sad once I finish the book because I do not want it to end. It's like some friends of mine are gone. Everyone needs to read this series, but read "In My Father's house", before you read this, because it is a continuation of the Shiloh Legacy Series. You won't regret this reading, ENJOY! Megan
