Summary: Not a light topic and not a light read...
Review: If you're looking for some solid teaching/understanding about the issues of demons, demonic oppression and possession, and deliverance then this tome is one of the best buys you could make. I've had this book in my library for years (bought it when it first came out and have the hardcover edition) and have read it front to back several times over.

Dr. Murphy has put together a strong, informative, and biblical presentation. As noted in an eariler review, this is not a light read. There's no way a topic such as this could be a light read! The book tackles such topics as 'oppression vs. possession,' ritual abuse, multiple personality disorders, and various other difficult and confusing issues. He clearly details what demonic influence is like and how it acts and then takes the reader into the Word to show them the tools of their spiritual warfare and how to use them effectively.

As a theology student who has completed a course on spiritual warfare for my studies, this book was invaluable in study and essay-writing. As a believer who wants to be informed and rightly wielding the Sword of Truth, this book is a necessary and valued part of my library.

'Tis good to see the book in paperback edition now, making it more affordable for a wider reading audience.

Spiritual warfare, by definition, can be a scary issue for many, but with Dr. Murphy's concise and clear teachings and explanations the veil of confusion is lifted and 'solid ground' is found by the reader. Can't recommend this title highly enough.

Review: No body that i know explain better about Spiritual Warfare than
Dr.ED Murphy., He knows what he is talking about in his book.
This book is for mature christians and for liders who are
working in deliverance ministries.

He explain in his book all about demons, sin, the flesh, and
also about your body,soul, and spirit.

Great book, lots of information, for serious readers.

Review: Spiritual War that is! Great book in helping you to understand the enemy's tactics and increases your wisdom in why spirtual warfare is so very important. Gives you a much deeper insight into the spirtual realm of things and has been a great tool in encouragement and gives you a deeper desire to pray more specifically in these areas over others and in your own life.

Jesus the Lamb (the gentle sacrificial Savior) and the Lion (the mighty warrior) calls us out of our complacency to be soliders of the cross. Girded with the full armor of God, we are to overcome the Evil one, to challenge the principalities and powers who hold people in bondage with the authority we have in Christ through declaration and intercession.

Read this book with lots of prayer and you will be blessed with how much God will open up your spiritual eyes and reveal many things to you concerning spiritual warfare!

Summary: Countering Satan's Work Against the Church in Today's World
Review: The Handbook For Spiritual Warfare by Dr. Ed Murphy addresses an area critically missing from the teaching of most mainline theological denominations. Over the centuries since our Lord completed His redeeming work here on earth, the Church seems to have lost sight of the almost invisible raging spiritual battles that our Lord clearly dealt with during His brief physical time on earth. The resulting carnage of evil influence is all around us in drugs, weapons, and crushed lives. The apostle Paul found it necessary to spend much time tutoring and strengthening his fledgling churches on exactly what was happening and how our enemy literally attacks God's work. Likewise, Dr. Murphy methodically traces the teachings on spiritual warfare from Genesis to Revelation. His work is dramatically illustrated with his global experiences of power encounters with enemy spiritual forces. The church today definitely needs to re-awake to the battle around us and become aware of the enemy's great power and tactics. This book brings good balance to the topic. Unlike some who consider deliverance a single event, Dr. Murphy shows the need for a more encompassing approach. His 45-10-45 time rule explains that the actually deliverance comprises only 10% of the time needed to successfully deliver the oppressed from the bondage of Satan's minions. He encourages that 45% of the time is needed for pre-deliverance (preparation of the counselee to understand what is happening in their lives and the need to seek deliverance) and 45% in post deliverance counseling to assure that they can continue to succeed in being free and avoid a return to worse demonization (Matthew 12:43-45). The book does a great job in showing Christians the need to root out the "sin handles" in our own lives that enable Satan and his demons to get a foothold. We seem to have little idea how bitterness, anger, unforgiveness, and other reactionary sins can compromise our life and witness. The newly added chapter on the "Dangers and Pitfalls of Spiritual Warfare" is outstanding in helping us keep everything in perspective and avoid excessives. Overall this large book is well worth the effort to get grounded in an essential area needed to spiritually survive and succeed in today's world. The battle is growing larger everyday and we need to prepare for it.

Summary: It's always good to have a handbook....
Review: There is a variance in how different people view the world. Satisfying every person is always difficult. But there is only one truth and that is Jesus. Without the authority in His name, we can do nothing. Especially in waging a spiritual war.
Dr.Ed Murphy does an excellent job by starting from the basics. In order to fight an enemy, you have to know about him and how he became the enemy.
Spiritual warfare is real. Most people hava a hard time accepting this because to them reality is what they perceive. All these mumbo-jumbo about psychics and their connection with the spirit world is nothing but deception from the enemy. And spiritual warfare is not about exorcising the demon-possesed. That is but one aspect of it.
As chrsitians, we are in a constant spiritual war in our daily lives. Dr. Murphy's books explains this all clearly.
This a great tool for christians who want to move into intercession and spiritual war. I think this book should be an essential read for anybody who desires to grow in spiritual maturity. This book draws everything from the bible which is the true word of God. If you cannot accept the bible, you will not accept what's mentioned in these pages.
This book has definitely opened my eyes to alot of spiritual issues in my own life and has strengthened my faith in God, that I want to live a life pleasing to Him because I love Him!

Summary: The Handbook for Spiritual Warfare
Review: This is a book you will want all your friends to read. I have learned so much. But in our office we are not suppose to talk about any thing that is spiritual. But I was so awe at this. So, I went and brought another person in our workplace the same book. Well we were talking about it. Now, everyone is so into it and it is not a little book. The next day we are all discussing what we read and what we got out of it. The book is the best.
It does explain alot of reason why God told us to put on our armor daily

Summary: Don't even think about it!
Review: This is an amazingly bad book. It is disorganized, it contradicts itself, it contradicts the Bible, and it betrays a flawed theology. The stories are deceiving and misleading. Many of the facts presented are either false or only partially stated. The author attempts to redefine easily understood words such as "in", to the degree that it reminded me of Clinton's argument that he didn't understand what the word "alone" meant. The argument that the Bible teaches us about praying, giving, care of elders, Church organization, the future, the past, social guidelines, and hundreds of other topics, but is silent about Christians being demon possessed is absolutely stupid. On a good note, page 151 isn't totally bad, but 3/4 through the page the author descends to the unBiblical teaching of "sexual demons". The rest of the book is a total waste of time. The word "Iatrogenic" comes to mind. Iatrogenic, (adj), "induced in a patient by a physician's activity, manner, or therapy. Used especially of an infection or other complication of treatment." In other words, you will be much worse off after reading this book because you will be infected by false teaching.
